So what happened with the scrimmage on Saturday? I was expecting to hear something somewhere but there's nothing!  :o

I heard it went well. First-team offense looked great, scoring early and often. First-team defense gave up a scoring drive or two, but otherwise looked very good.

I attended the scrimmage - which didn't look like it would happen as I was traveling north through pouring rain/lightning. Turned out to be a beautiful afternoon though.
Oh right, the scrimmage.  The new triple option out of the wishbone looks deadly and Coppage at wideout worked well. How many double reverse passes will  the Dub run per game?  Statue of Liberty and Hook and Lateral are mid season form.
And I never thought I'd see the radar defense again - but we are lucky to have so many stand up players.

UWO actually switched from a spread offense to the Wing-T and switched from the radar defense to the 5-2 Monster this season :P

Barber Greene- That was laugh out loud  :D

I didn't want to comment before Voice had his post and interviews up.  Plus, I'm trying to divert the competition, so keep this on the down low.

The first thing that comes to mind when watching the practice/scrimmage is just how much work the coaches put in to make this whole thing happen.  The last time I saw the team they were playing in their sixth consecutive Stagg Bowl- and winning #3.  Somehow, each year, they take a group of kids and move them from a Saturday scrimmage to national champions.  6 straight times.  Amazing.  Hats off to Harper too.  Each team had to have about the same number of kids, and the organization of the practice and scrimmage was so tight it was like watching a great marching band- nobody skips a beat.

The offense did move the ball well on Harper.  I'm not sure how Harper's team compares to last year.  Some things that stood out:
Oline- I was surprised with how thick they look.  We have some strong looking guys with attitude and ability.
Receivers- Like Voice said, it seems there is a whole bunch of guys with skill.
RB- The big fella is big.  He didn't gain those extra 4"- he's a 6 footer- with size and some shake.
We have tough fullbacks.  Some Harper guys can attest to that.
Blanchard and Brekke were both money.  Darn good to see Matt out there.

The secondary covered a lot of ground- the transfer kid looks like he has closing speed.
I wouldn't want to have to block the D Line- even though they are young.
Big block on a UWW interception rocked the stadium- sweet.

It was great just being back in the Perk, in the shade of the pressbox and listening to the guys upstairs.
Lots of people are making the trip to Lacrosse, including me- hope many more can make it.

This was a laugh out loud reply- a big karma point for you.

Is the transfer kid in the secondary that you mentioned Jesse Hamilton formerly of Minnesota-Mankato.  Former all-american ?

badgerwarhawk

Yes it is.  He looks like a player.  I have a hunch that anyone that gets hit by him is going to know they've been hit.

He is a great player.  Had some attitude and in-game penalties at MSU..If they can rein in all of that talent u will have one fantastic player.

For those familiar with WI high school football, I am curious as to what you may know about a player and team mentioned in the text below that was posted on the MIAA site:

"I would not be too shocked. Rauch is 18 but i argue that he has played at a higher level. The only team he lost to was Waunakee who is one of the best HS teams in the Nation. This might be hard for you to believe but Waunakee against UW Whitewater would be a blood bath. Waunakee being younger but bigger faster. Many of their players from last year are playing for the Badgers now."

I know is that Waunakee is a good High School football team. But as someone else said on the MIAA board High School football =/= College football. The game is different, the overall speed and skill is different and the maturity levels are different. Would Waunakee be able to score on UWW? Probably, but it wouldn't be easy. Would they be able to win? Highly doubt it.

KitchenSink

It would be really hard to believe that a HS team - even Waunakee - could have the size and depth (especially in the trenches) to match up with any WIAC team, let alone UWW.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

emma17, I don't know who Rauch is or what HS team he played on last year. Maybe it was DeForest, also from the Badger North Conference. Gotta be a joke text. . . or the writer is munching on some psychedelic herbs or something.

Waunakee has a very good H.S. football program, by Wisconsin standards (2 consecutive Div 2 state titles). They have been in the national rankings by MaxPreps, but IMO calling last years team one of the best teams in the nation is really stepping into the absurdity. The comment about many WHS players from last year are now playing for the Badgers simply isn't true.  Wisconsin has a grand total of 2 scholarship players on their current roster from Waunakee (a Madison suburb) in redshirt freshman DL Jake Irwin and TE Austin Maly, a true freshman who played at WHS last year & will probably redshirt this year.  They also have a freshman RB by the name of Derek Straus out of WHS who I believe is a walk-on. Last I checked, I don't think he's ready to become this years James White.  I'm certain a match-up of these purple powers would be a blood bath. . . in a similar fashion that the gladiators vs lions was a blood bath. . . or like Midland Lutheran or Dakota State vs UWW from a couple years ago were blood baths!!  ;)   ::)  Quite seriously, what a ludicrous comment.
