faunch--Tommy fans wont travel 30 miles to back their team?  What kind of fan support is that? The Johnnies brought legions plus the tailgating group--the best atmosphere we've had at a home game for years! Looks like we should have continued the series.

They'll probably bring a decent crowd but I wouldn't expect the numbers you had when the Johnnies were in town.  They're kind of new to this winning thing.  I'll be interested to hear how big the crowd is.

When Joel Dettwiller was hired to replace Larry Terry at UWL, and with a new athletic director in place, the talk was turning the UWL football fortunes around.
The Eagles play Hardin-Simmons this Saturday in Abeline, Texas.  I was stunned when I heard today that the school has scheduled its football team to bus down to Abeline.  Just another step in returning UWL back to prominence!

Umm I believe you mean UMHB instead of Hardin-Simmons in Belton, TX. That bus trip will be a bad decision IMO, it's what I believe led to Coe being blown out by Hardin-Simmons last weekend. They might still have lost if they flew, but a bus trip that length is brutal.
I seriously can't believe it or imagine how hard this will be on the players both from an athletic and academic standpoint!  When we traveled down to Belton for our first meeting in 06, it turned into a very long, arduous day of travel with the boys getting on a bus at 5:00 AM, I believe, and because of delays not arriving at the Hotel in Belton until 11:30 that evening.  Then they were up right away the next morning to play a noon game in the 95 degree heat.  And that was the end of October!  That was tough enough but spending what, 20 plus hours, on a bus is going to be brutal!   Lends new meaning to Home Field Advantage, doesn't it!    Damn this economy!   >:(

413,

You are right on target. That is a long ride and the home team will no doubt benefit. Besides the fatigue factor, IMHO long bus rides are not the safest either!+k :)

I remember the bus ride from WHITEWATER to Salem for the first Stagg Bowl.  It was miserable and I vowed I would never do that again.  I can't sleep when I'm in a moving vehicle or a plane so the trip just drug on and on and on.  I thought it would never end.

Last night at the QB Club meeting AD Paul Plinske outlined the parking situation.  Here's how it works out.

1. Handicapped can park in the stadium lot ($5) in the handicap marked spaces.  There will be people with golf carts to assist those people reaching the stadium itself.
2. The stadium lot is first come first served ($10).
3. Williams Center lot and those lots east of Williams Center are $5
4. Parking is free in the baseball lot (west of the track/soccer field) and the tennis court lot (south of the tennis courts).  Bot of these lots are within a short walking distance to the stadium.

Additional information regarding parking, parking passes, tickets and season tickets can be found here

FredFalcon,

Unfortunately, I will not be able to to make the game in River Falls this weekend as I will be in Grand Forks, ND. But if I could make it, rest assured, I would take you up on the Rush River wager.

I thought UWRF played hard and fundamentally sound last year against UST, just a little overmatched. It should be a decent game.

Thanks, bw.

One question though - the parking west of the tennis courts is dorm/permit parking for Bigelow, Clem and all those, isn't it?  Could that maybe be SOUTH or EAST of the tennis courts?
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

You're right the lots west of the courts are dorm lots.  The lots east of the tennis courts are $5 lots.  The lot south of the tennis court is the free one they are talking about.  Thanks for catching that.  The money from parking goes to the athletic department and helps support the programs.  I would hope $5 isn't going to break anyone's bank and their support would be very much appreciated by the student-athletes who will benefit from it.

Although I avoided being tackled, those suckers have some teeth and sharp fins- so I played injured quite a bit. No way was I coming off the field, er lake.

LOL, and do you think they would need less money in DI?    8-)   I think the proximity and environment are definitely worth the cost.  Count our group in to pay the additional.

Speaking about UWW athletics getting funded, I guess it's just not the football team that gets flack about "how Warhawk athletics don't belong in DIII."

My aunt attended the girl's tennis invite at Whitewater last weekend. She said she over heard visiting coaches making comments like, "Look at these facilities, it looks like the US Open here!!! No way we can compete against a school like this. They don't belong in DIII."  ::)

My aunt told me that and I just laughed, and I told her we get that a lot. Then I had to explain to her why UWW is DIII and not DI. There's more to it than just having "nice facilities."

There's definitely more to it. But man, the Perk is a really nice looking football stadium, period. But especially when put up against what is standard fare for most DIII schools. That's just a pretty place to watch a game, especially when there's an equally attractive product on the field.

I agree, the cheerleaders are nice to look at too.

You know, a few years ago when UWW TV started streaming on the 'net, they were always showing the cheerleaders in-between plays and many times during plays, too (it was amazing how many good plays were missed). Recently, at least in the last couple years, they haven't done a lot of that. Actually, haven't done it at all. I guess they've had a change in Director or Producer or whoever decides that sort of thing. I guess I'll have to look at the homepage to see "how they stack up!!"  ;)
