+k Oshdude. I think posters supporting other schools in the WIAC would make things much more fun. For the most part, I think all the posters here have a respect for D3 athletes and programs and can carry on a conversation without showing disrespect.  Although I admit that I didn't show much respect to Mount fans in earlier days when I perceived arrogance on their part. Their response was often that their arrogance was warranted because their team is so good. Personally, I don't try to be irritating unless someone says something ridiculous or takes an unwarranted shot at UW-W.  Aside from those circumstances, it just comes naturally.  ;D

This conversation about other schools posters' chiming in happens every year. I don't think anyone stays away because of the volume of WW posters. I've seen it a few times when someone gets slammed down by saying something positive about their squad, but it's very rare.

I'm friends with fb413 and feel like friends with many of you. The Whitewater train is hot right now and has been for quite a run. Until someone in the conference stops it, the WW fans have every right to be proud. Just remember the rest of us are proud as well, and for good reason.

On the women's basketball board Stout has as many posters as anyone and more than most. Success breeds that kind of enthusiasm. And while last year was rough, the Stout poster's will be over there again this season because we believe it was a bump in the road ultimately.

I do appreciate it when any poster's pull for the BlueDevils against non-conference teams. I do that for all the WIAC as well.

Peace out to the WIACPP, and damn I hope the Devil defense I saw last night just had a bad pregame meal or something!  :P

Wara is a talent in my book, big time.

PS: janesville flash, I miss you. Hope the best. Another great guy I've met. River Falls v St. John's @ River circa 2008 I think.

Find out on the post game show that the Guru was at the Stout game tonight, and didn't look me up. Real nice. I would have bought you a popcorn, but noooo! Now he's on the post game show I sponsor, and will be on my 2 hour Saturday morning show a few times.

Where's the love? I'm sitting like 50 feet away fer chrissaakes,  :P

::shrug:: Were you in the high roller booth? I was lucky to get a seat in the home radio booth. I had to work to get that! Apparently I have to be a donor to get a media seat. :)

Just kidding with you, Pat. Would have loved to say hi and talk for a minute. If you had thrown a peanut out the broadcast window down a few rows and a little left, you would have nailed me in the head.

I think you haven't been to our stadium since the Harden-Simmons game in 2002. Yes? Raiderguy has come over for a game but otherwise just fb413 when WW was here. We tailgated and she bought me a Leinenkugel at the Stout Ale House afterwards as she won the bet but I got the free beer.  ;D Got to meet her son as well.

I'll always host any poster that make the trek to the "Big Willy." (Named after my next door neighbor, who donated big $ to help get the stadium built.) Nice people, great neighbors.

Always want to make a new D3 friends.

It was 2003 but yes, that was the last time I was there, even though I'm more local. Been spending my weekends getting to see some of the places I haven't been to yet.

Understandable. And thank you for providing this great site. It's a real benefit to my life. Sometimes, many times, people take things for granted. You and your team are very much appreciated by me.

I'm not a statistician, but nothing in these stats support the theory that he will have a significantly better game vs UWW this year. In fact, I suggest just the opposite is more likely.
Just to play devil's advocate here for a second....

Why is it that in the pre-season reports one of the questions is how many starters are returning for each team?  My guess would be it is because teams that have experience typically perform better.

Would it be out of the question to think that the experience Wara has gotten over the past two years will help him this year?  Maybe, maybe not, but if I had to pick I would want a kid with experience over a first-timer any day of the week, and twice on Saturday afternoons....  ;D

Depends what you mean by typically. I don't subscribe to the assumption that a returning starter performs better the next year or better than a non-starter or a new face in the program (freshman; transfer). Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. As a fan, I hope they do for my team, but just because they are a returning starter, doesn't mean they're going to perform better the next year. There are way to many other factors that can influence things. Furthermore, I think we can safely say that there are many non-starters for Mount or UWW and a few other teams that are better football players than starters for many of the other teams in DIII football. I think the reason we as fans like to hear who is returning is so we have an idea of what our favorite team might look like, who are the familiar faces, not that they should be better because they are returning. That sounds too much like an entitlement, and it doesn't work that way, IMO.

Wara is a talented QB. I can see that...everyone can see that. He just doesn't have his better games against Mount or UWW - for a good reason. Plus he doesn't have the supporting options to turn to when things don't work out for him. Oshkosh has trouble when Wara doesn't play well.

Wara will play well anytime he has a little time and space. The rest of the team on offense needs to give him that. Any QB fails without that.

Big game for UWL tomorrow at Platteville. While the Pioneers seem to be much improved this year, this is  a game that the Eagles can win. They need to step up and get coach Dettwiler his first win at his alma mater. I had the pleasure of talking to coach Dettwiler, and to legendary coach Roger Harring at a recent L Club function. I was impressed with coach Dettwiler, and believe he has the program pointed in the right direction. He benefits from an obvious effort on the Athletic Department's part to return the Eagles to their past glory. It was great to recall past seasons with coach Harring, and I look forward to more great seasons to come. UWL's academic standards have improved greatly over the past 20 years or so, and I asked the coach if this hampered his recruiting efforts. I was pleased that he quickly responded in the negative, indicating that he considered it a plus for his sales efforts. Good luck in Platteville, Eagles.

WIAC football?

Bah, humbug!  ;)

The Brew Crew just beat Florida and, if the fricken Cubbies hold on and beat St. Louis, the Brewers will win their first division title since, well, since back when I still had hair on my head!  :o

P.S. I echo BlueDevil Bob's thoughts about comments on here from posters other than those who represent UWW... (Yep, 02Warhawk. I'm a Blugold, but have dual citizenship - attended UWSP, too, so I jump on the mens' hoops bandwagon during the basketball season...)

Correction...UWEC destroyed St. John's 47-19 in week 2 at at St. John's. I also see Wara having a significantly better game against UWW than he had against UMU...his week 2 game against UMU was not up to his par of playing. UWSP seems down this year. I've never been a Stout fan (sorry). UWP seems surprising to me as a contender for top 3 this year. I don't know much about UWEC's team this year to venture a guess.

I wish we would get more posters like you oshfb +K (non-UWW folk). I wouldn't mind reading other people's insights around the WIAC, outside of UWW vs. (insert team here) each week.

Seems like we lose one or two non-UWW posters a year. Whatever happen to Oshdude? BlueDevil Bob (Stout) and PointSpecial (UWSP) gives their two cents every once in a long awhile. There are a couple of UWRF posters that appear every now and then. I think bulk is the only EC poster I've ever seen, then again I'm not 100% sure bulk is a UWEC suppoter. Platteville, I think their SID posts once or twice a year. And I haven't seen a La Crosse post in a LONG time.

Looking at the OAC board, they still get a bunch of non-UMU posters that participate. I just hope the abundance of UWW supporters on here aren't scaring away other WIAC posters.

I know I am not a WIAC fan and I want to emphasize I do not have any hard feelings. I would like to post regarding this however.

I have made two friendly posts this year. The only response I received was from BoBo on the ASC board.  Last year I was in Wisconsin during the football season and made a special stop to watch the Whitewater/Eau Claire game in Eau Claire.  I posted a few times I was going to be there and would like to sit and visit with some WIAC fans.  I never got a serious response and watched the game from the Whitewater stands by myself.

I enjoy reading the WIAC board and listening to your knowledgeable posts and your banter!  I remember meeting fbfan413 on a Whitewater trip to Texas and seeing some of you posters at the Stagg Bowl (I have been there every year since 2005 except for last year while my grandson was being born).

I guess my only point is that these examples are why there may not be as many outside posters.  Just a thought for you guys and let me emphasize again that I do not want any extra cheese with my whine!  ;) ;D

Best of luck to all the WIAC teams and I hope to see a game between UMHB and any WIAC school this year.  That would mean both of us had advanced pretty far in the playoffs and that is always a good thing!!  ;D

Hello Brian -
I know you are a UWL fan from reading your posts... Not sure if you live in LAX, but if you do, you've probably seen and heard about the subtle things the school is doing in the athletics arena for football - getting some game sponsorships, who have banners hanging at the field, and also advertising the games on the radio, too... Things they haven't done a lot of in the past...

Did you see the story a while ago about Coach Dettwiler getting Coach Harring's bike, which he left in the garage of his home, which Coach D purchased? Perhaps it's still in the LAX Trib's archives, if you didn't catch it...

Plus, I went for a walk one night the week before the UWW game; I live by the stadium, so I heard the Screaming Eagles practicing... But it was coming from Main Street... What the heck, I thought. So I followed the music. Turns out they were giving a pep rally performance for the new coach and family, and the neighborhood. I thought that was kind of neat...

Well...I think I got a little in over my head. I made my first attempt to start at blog. Rather than doing something specifically on UWW, I decided to broaden my horizons and do one on the WIAC (football) as a whole. So, I don't oshfb to roll his eyes and think "great ANOTHER UWW football blog"....b/c it's not.  ;D

**SPAM ALERT**

If interested, you can follow along at www.wiacfootball.blogspot.com. I'll also posted the site down on my signature for your convenience. I don't want to step on Voice's and bleedpurple's toes (they are doing a great job), I just wanted to do something that didn't pertain to JUST Whitewater football. Hopefully it'll peak everyone's interest on this WIAC board......if not, then don't be affriad to say it sucks.  ;)

I haven't posted anything WIAC related yet, it's still a work in process. However I did write a little something about what I'm trying to set out to do and why I'm doing it. Hopefully a few of you will enjoy it.

Take care....i'm going to bed.
