Any Eau Claire fans think they have a chance to win their first War on 94 trophy this weekend?

I think they have a very good chance to knock off Stout.

This is not D3, but just a conversation point...come Saturday afternoon we'll have one more data point in the age old argument of what trumps what, a top offense or a top defense?

Baylor and Kansas State face off in Manhattan. The Bears comes into the game ranked 3rd in scoring offense and has put up 50 or more against both of their FBS opponents (TCU and Rice) thus far.

Kansas State is ranked 7th in scoring defense, allowing an average of just 10 points per game so far in this young season.

IMO, this offense beats this defense.

Anybody?

I almost wonder if it won't come down to the top offense vs. the top defense... but whether K-state's offense can beat Baylor's defense.

I think it's likely that Baylor won't score as many points as they're used to, due to K-state's defense... but this could be even more pronounced if K-state's offense can keep Baylor's offense off the field due to ball control.

I remember watching an Illinois high school playoff game a couple of years ago where Prospect High school had a highly touted QB and offense... and Wheaton North controlled the second half with a couple of 7 minute, grind 'em out drives. Prospect did get the ball back but they were forced to take some chances, and Wheaton North held out.

In the end, WN's defense didn't beat Prospect's offense as much as WN's offense beat Prospect's D.

*(it didn't hurt that Wheaton North won the field position battle either with a couple of great returns and some great punts that pinned Prospect back deep, too).

I'm not an Eau Claire fan but I happen to think they'll knock off Stout. Whatever that is worth  :D

"University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh wide receiver Justin Budiac has been nominated for the National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete Awards...The WIAC had three nominees in this year's class, with UW-Eau Claire's David Goodman and UW-Whitewater's Jared Kiesow also receiving the honor." I played HS football with David Goodman's older brother so that is also cool to see.

This weekend's Nebraska at Wisconsin football game has brought a ton of national media to Madison this week.
I have learned that a writer for USA Today will be coming down to Whitewater tomorrow to interview UWW head coach Lance Leipold and do an article on Warhawk Football.  Outstanding!!

Not only will the UW-Whitewater football program get national exposure from USA Today but Hawk head coach Lance Leipold was interviewed by Tim Brando on Sporting News Radio Network Thursday morning.  Coach Leipold who listens to the Brando's program in his office (when he can) while working. Lance sent a UWW football helmet to Brando who quickly responded by asking Lance to do a live phone segment on the program.  The segment lasted just under eight minutes.  By the way - Brando did a great job researching the Warhawk football program and the segment was led with the UW-Whitewater fight song.  Good Stuff!!

The Tim Brando Show on Yahoo Sports is available on I-Tunes.

Listened to the podcast & it sounds like UWW is going to be featured all season on the program. LL did a great job.

Following up on the UWEC @ Stout game "War on 94". Being new at this... I hear mention of a trophy.  Has anyone seen this trophy?  And does said trophy include any of the following: asphalt, an orange construction cone, speed limit or highway sign?  If not it should!   BTW EC by 10.

Interesting note I found in doing the research on the UW-P/UW-W game. Neither the Pioneers' starting QB (Nick Anderson) nor their leading receiver (Darin Blaser) are listed on their Two Deep Roster for the UW-W game.

Also from Platteville's 2 deep for the UWW game - a candidate for the all name team:

Actually, the 02 Warhawk blog has a picture of some Stout Blue Devils holding up what looks to be an I94 road sign fashioned into a trophy of some sort.  Not sure if it's the official game trophy.

Personally, I think a Jersey Barrier would make a great trophy, as well!! Chances are it will never get stolen & it could be put to use in a parking lot on campus during and after the season.  ;)
