Blugolds come up with a win 24-10 over Stout.  Fun game to listen to online....wondering about some calls as they seemed late, or at least confounding.  Could've been the announcer's perspective.  Was anyone there who could comment?  Too bad for Stout.. Tough loss.  They lost the trophy....and they lost their Homecoming game.  All that on their 100th anniversary year.  Still it was nothing like what the Johnnies endured today....now that's a rough day.

Refs would take their time talking over the calls, and several no one was sure exactly what team they were going to call it on.  A couple calls that people disagreed with, but overall it was OK.
EC played a bad game.  Couple dumb penalties. Lost the ball twice at the goal line on fumbles.  EC punter dropped a ball on the 20 yd line which resulted in Stout's only TD.  Think the sun was in his eyes.  EC had 421 yds offense to Stouts 250 or something like that.  EC easily should have beat them by a much larger margin, and if it weren't for that dropped punt, they would have held Stout to 3.
Next week EC/Oshkosh should be interesting.  But EC needs to play a sharper game.

Sure EC had 3 fumbles lost. But Stout threw 2 interceptions in their red zone, 1 from the 4 yard line.To say without the fumbled punt Stout would have been held to 3 is delusional. Tack on 80 yards of penalties and that's how you lose. The 14 point differential was about right.

Stout's in for a rough couple of weeks, and my pick will be Oshy next week. I didn't think either team looked very good.

Blanchard 13-18  144 1 TD  1 INT on a tipped ball in the end zone on the Warhawks first possession 2nd and

I'm not sure but Blanchard may have been more like 15-20 with 166 yards.  The official stats had Rosholt going 2-2 for 22 yards.  I didn't notice Rosholt, the punter, throwing any passes.

I have to give Platteville some credit.  They kept going for first downs on fourth down though they ended up 0-4.  That was a significant momentum thing for the WARHAWKS.  The best one was when we stuffed them twice on 3rd and 4th and a couple of inches to go.

It definitely helped that Nick Anderson was unable to play.  Overall their quarterbacks were more of a running threat than passing and Anderson would definitely made them more difficult to defend.  I hope he's able to get back on the field at some point.  They need him.

I thought so to.  But I was watching the Brewers on my PC and the Warhawks on my laptop - and paying closer attention to the baseball and thought I missed a few plays.  Live Stats must have been messed up. . .again!!

BW - not trying to "throw you under the bus" but I read your post and immediately pulled yesterday's offical stats off the floor of the passenger side of my car's front seat.  My copy of the stats has ONLY Matt Blanchard's 15 of 20 for 166 yards - 1 TD and 1 INT. Just the second interception of his UWW career.

BTW - Matt's brother Derek was at yesterday's game on the sidelines. I introduced myself to the 2007 Mount Union "National Player of the Year."  Derek was all set to assist the "Cannon Man" in shooting off the cannon following a UWW touchdown.  All of a sudden he thought better and declined the invitation.  I'm wondering if he realized that I'd be publishing a photo of a MOUNT UNION guy helping U-Dub-Dub celebrate a Warhawk TD!!!???  It would have made for an interesting scenario. (actually Derek was being a gentleman and when a couple of kids were brought onto the sidelines to "shoot the cannon" - Derek gave up his turn!)

Yea, that was a big part of the game. I think UWP wasn't doing themselves any favors by playing out of the shot gun in that situation. That usually doesn't bode well for short-yardage situations, IMO.

The WIAC should have a couple more trophy games...or do they?  What could we come up with......hmmm....

This should answer a couple of your questions

More Lance.  He has a unique view of Nebraska/Wisconsin.

The writer does have his facts about UWW and the Stagg Bowl a bit wrong.

This is what it says right now:

QuoteLeipold is one of the hottest coaches going in college football at any level. He has taken the Warhawks to four consecutive Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowls, winning three national titles. He credits his roots at UW and Nebraska with helping prepare him.

This is correct. UWW has been to six but he has only taken the Warhawks to four of them.

No problem Voice all of the tires missed me so I'm still alive.  I noticed that it was corrected in the box score posted on the website and I knew it would be after they'd had time to check it out.  I got a copy of the stats right after the game and noticed the mistake.  When you looking from as far away as the press box I imagine it isn't that difficult to mistake 18 for 15

On my latest blog post I took a closer look at the box scores from yesterday's WIAC games. While doing so, I had some fun with MS Paint on some key stats.

I'll probably make this a weekly thing.

Thanks

I'll back you up here -- when I was looking at live stats yesterday Rosholt was on there. I made a mental note to look up the play by play later, because that's not exactly in character for Whitewater, from my recollection, to have a punter throw the ball.

413, tough loss for the Cougars.  Actually the score was closer than I had expected.  Good luck this week.

That was edited - I think it said something like, The Warhawks have advanced to four Amos...winning three.

Thanks, BW.  Judging from your comments earlier in the week, I thought that the Cougars hung better with them than was expected.  DEFENSE got their first TD of the season.  :)  Cougars have lost the last two games by a combined total of only 15 points so while they are closing the gap with some of the conference teams, a loss is still a loss, unfortunately.

BTW, enjoyed the recaps of several of the games. Thanks.  Nothing like personal observations to flesh out the stats sheet.
