Nice read BP.  I had an alumni ask me just where Hamilton Field was located this past weekend.  It made me think of how much the campus has changed since those good old days.  :D

Biggest stat of the weekend:  Platteville @ Whitewater game drew more fans than the St. Johns at St. Thomas game.

10,632 at the Perk - 10,421 at O'Shaunessey Stadium (UST)

Their was once a time that when each year's UW-Whitewater football schedule came out you would compare it to the Badgers' schedule to see if the UWW home games were the same day as UW home games.  Family Day had a great deal to do with Perkins Stadium's fourth largest crowd in stadium history Packing the Perk on Saturday.  A two-time defending Division III national champion and 33-game win streak also had a lot to do with the big crowd.

When you have direct competition with the Milwaukee Brewers opening the playoffs just 45 minutes east of UWW - and a frenzied game-day in Madison ahead of Saturday night's UW-Nebraska nationally televised game at Camp Randall - Saturday's Perkins Stadium crowd may be the most impressive in Perk history!

Great article Bleed.  Your article brings forward such an important point and identifies something really great about UWW fans.  These are great times for the program and the fans, but nothing is guaranteed or comes automatically.  Nearly everybody I've talked to be it players, coaches, university staff and the fans- all appreciate the moment- without an expectation or belief that this will last forever.

bp, a good writer inspires adulation in their readers - and you hit that spot on in your latest essay. Well done. Living overseas for as long as I have, my memories of Hamilton Field sometime seem fresher in my thoughts than the present. But, I have spent many afternoons at the stadium, just not during this incredible run of seasons. So, I totally agree, these are the "good old days" people are going to miss in the years ahead. Man, you brought a tear to my eye and goose bumps all over my body!!  8-)

It is GREAT article, BP, especially the reminder of how much credit goes to Coach Brez and his staff.  All the work he did to get the Student Athletic Center funded and built and recruiting the wonderfully talented players that came in the early 2000's when UWW was just a good WIAC team that started this incredible run, these, "Good old days!"  Much easier to decide to play for a National Championship program than it is to do the work to make it one.   ;)

Blanchard 13-18  144 1 TD  1 INT on a tipped ball in the end zone on the Warhawks first possession 2nd and

I'm not sure but Blanchard may have been more like 15-20 with 166 yards.  The official stats had Rosholt going 2-2 for 22 yards.  I didn't notice Rosholt, the punter, throwing any passes.

I have to give Platteville some credit.  They kept going for first downs on fourth down though they ended up 0-4.  That was a significant momentum thing for the WARHAWKS.  The best one was when we stuffed them twice on 3rd and 4th and a couple of inches to go.

It definitely helped that Nick Anderson was unable to play.  Overall their quarterbacks were more of a running threat than passing and Anderson would definitely made them more difficult to defend.  I hope he's able to get back on the field at some point.  They need him.

UWP was fighting an uphill battle before the game even started with many injuries, not saying it would have made a difference in the outcome of the game.  Anderson, Vlasak out with injuries before the game started then I heard they lost their best lineman in the 1st quarter.  On defense they were without their best safety (#26, can't think of his name) and three starting linebackers, one being all-conference LB Snyder.  Then I heard when they did try to use Vlasak on a 3rd&4th and inches that got stuffed, questionable play calling by UWP (I bet the UWW defense was thinking something like this "Oh Vlasak is in for the 1st time today I bet they are going to give him the ball").  Talk about telegraphing they play call, using Vlasak as a decoy would've probably worked in their favor.  I've never understood how UWP expects to get tough yards on the ground going out of shotgun with their linemen out of a 2point stance, hard to get a forward push when you are starting on your heals not to mention going against the UWW defense.

If UWP gets everyone healthy with their bye week they will have a good shot of winning out.  If they can win out and finish 8-2 (only loses to #1 & #7), good possibility of getting an at large bid for playoffs.

I was very impressed with how hard Platteville played.  Their backup QB was pretty darn good and caused some problems running the ball.  I can see Platteville seriously challenging all other WIAC teams with a healthy squad.
Glad the WIAC is so strong.

After reading the good ole days story for UWW, it made me a little sadened that my alma mater has fallen since my days in pads.  I love to watch games in Menomonie, but it definitely is not like it used to be when they always filled the new stadium.  I am not sure they win another game this year as the lower tier WIAC teams are road games for the Stout squad and with only 2 home games left I am worried to think they will go 2-8 losing to 8 WIAC teams for the first time ever including when Superior fielded a team.  I sure hope Stout can figure it out for the remainder of the year.

to keep the "blog" discussion going.....I was able to submit my next WIAC football blog post. I did a little research and found out how all the WIAC football programs came up with their nicknames (Warhawks, BluGolds, Falcons, etc...)

Check it out if you have some time today....you just might learn something about your school you didn't know.

Enjoy
