If I add "as long as the loss occurs on the road" would that be better?
Seriously, an occasional 9-1 UWW team does so much more for everyone involved.  It increases the liklihood of 2 WIAC teams making the playoffs, it adds intrigue to the game with that team the next year, it probably draws more fans (students) to the Perk as there is some doubt, it certainly should waken the fans at the game to give more energy to the team, and most IMPORTANTLY, it prevents this board (primarily the UWW supporters) from becomming just like many (not all) of the Mt and OAC supporters.  Did you browse their board prior to the season starting?  "Our only tough game this year will be such and such".  "So and so only played us tough because such and such".  Humility is a good thing- and losing once in a while is the best elixir.

It's my new thing, I am in support of a UWW loss in a season every now and then, as long as it's not a playoff game.

Just like winning, losing is habit forming. Any losing just to get more students to the Perk or to be more humble, no offense emma, is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

But as they say, stand up for what you believe in – even if you're standing alone!!

Bobo, if that's one of the dumbest things you've ever heard, count yourself lucky that you haven't been exposed to more of my opinions.   ;D

Judging by the rebuttals to my post, I don't imagine I have much chance for conversions to my way of thinking, so I won't try.
I do think semantics are a little at play though.
I would never root for the Warhawks to lose, nor would I pick them to lose in a game this season.
However, if you can try imagine the scenario where UWW gets into a tough game this regular season and for whatever reason, losses.  From the perspective of looking back at the loss that just occurred, I believe you can find a whole lot of good that could come from it.  The one loss won't be "habit forming" (speaking of stupid comments), but it would bring about benefits that I think reasonable and objective people would have to at least put some merit in.
-From the WIAC perspective (and I believe most of us on this board want good things for the WIAC), it creates the real opportunity for 2 playoff teams.
-From the perspective of coaching the "one game at a time philosophy", it certainly provides an excellent, and more importantly, REAL LIFE example of the importance.
-From the perspective of pure entertainment that comes from watching a game, IMO it is certainly more entertaining to watch a game that has doubt than one that is a blowout.  Example, I brought my sister (who last came to UWW in 1986 to watch me drop a LL pass while wide open) and my kids to the Campbellsville game, and almost brought 3 other friends from home because I mistakenly thought it would be a good game.  My sister and kids didn't even come back into the stadium after halftime.  So I ask you, what game would you prefer to watch- UWW v Platteville with the score 14-14 at half, or the Campbellsville game?  The possibility of a loss is the energy that is oftentimes lacking in the stadium- and it's also the reason our levels of anticipation and excitement vary depending on the opponent.
-I do believe more (not claiming sell out or anything, just saying More) UWW students would attend a home game if we were playing Mt Union as compared to Lakeland- and that's because they would expect a close game- and a close game by nature requires uncertainty of outcome.

Thus, from the perspective of the above, I "support" the idea of a loss, not while the game is being played, but once it has happened and the pain of the moment has subsided.

Oh, and Bleed, you said "I do have a couple of questions for you"- and then listed 5 questions.  :P
As my pickems this week demonstrate, I am not a yellow/black washed picker of the Titan, demonstrating my ability to be objective.
Who is Eric Ambler?  I went to UWW for cry eye.

And lastly, speaking of Objective, my point about many of the OAC/MT posters still stands.  The overwhelming Lack of objectivity that exists on that board, created by a culture of nearly Guaranteed Wins for decades, limits that board's contribution to "interesting" and "fun".
Be careful of toooo much success.

Talk about your pickem spreads for Osh @ Platt...MIAC has Platt +7.5, OAC has Osh +6.5.  That sounds like no clear-cut favorite.  ;)  If the WIAC had spreads, what kind of points would you set, 02 Warhawk?

Oh man....I have a hard enough time finding non-conference games for our pickems.

*Maybe something along the lines of:
Stout @ Whitewater -34.5
Eau Claire @ La Crosse +6
River Falls @ Stevens Point -4.5
Oshkosh @ Platteville +10

No way I think Patteville is the favorite like the OAC has it...sorry Mr_Mom. UWO is playing too good and UWP is banged up, however maybe the bye week healed some key injuries.

*Spreads are subject to be WAY off.

UWP should have just about everyone back; all that were injured have had 3 weeks to heal.  I like UWP's chances if they have everyone back and it being their homecoming.

I remember watching the televised replay of the UWW game, and the announcer mentioned something like they had 10 starters (or at least contributors) out for that game. Which is crazy!

I would like to see Anderson if action and give Oshkosh a run for their money.

Starters out were Anderson, Vlasak, Blaser on offense.  Defensive starters out were Snyder, McWethy, and a hand full of linebackers that rotate regularly.  Might have been others too, they ended up playing their 4th string QB, who is their starting TE, with the 2nd and 3rd stringers getting knocked out of the game.

+K...thanks for the info.

I can probably use your insight on Platteville, in stories I do in my blog going forward. Don't go anywhere!!  ;)

Emma17,

I do believe you back pedaled all the way back into good graces.  ;)

Also, I tend to find that in the land of absurdity, one question tends to lead to another....  ;D

These type of organizations absolutely work.  At our local highschool, which three UWW players went to, a group of students with support of some teachers started a group about 8 years ago.  Since the school's mascot is the Viking, the student group informally became know as the Army of Darkness.   It resulted in abolutely huge crowds at home and away football games, 3-5 thousand, depending upon the game, opponent and yes, sometimes weather.  You can watch video of it on YouTube if you search for Fremd, Army of Darkness.

Umm, the Army of Darkness is not without controversy. It may not be the best example.

When I was playing, some students went to the games to find out where the parties were planned for that evening.

What controversy?......the attendance and school spirit was huge.  If you played against Fremd at Fremd, you knew the impact the packed stands and the noise had on the games.  Definitely an edge.

02, why do you have SPOILER Alert in Red adjacent to the reference to next week's Oshkosh v Whitewater game?  You think there is a good chance of an upset? ???

Whenever I see you or Bobo shaking your graphic head, I know I'm making sense- thanks for the encouragement.
Here is one thing I can certainly see coach LL saying shortly after a Stagg Bowl victory, having finished the season with a 14-1 record.  "Looking back on it, the loss during the season may have been exactly what this team needed- for a lot of reasons.  It hurt like hell when it happened, but in the end, it's not the streak that matters, it's earning the title of National Champion.

Ok I realize it's a night for baseball with the Brewers but is anyone watching the Eau Claire-Oshkosh game?

I am, and I'm impressed with Eau Claire.  Did you happen to see the EC QB shove #2 shortly after the pass play that got them to the goal line before half (where they later fumbled)?  Was that a shove of "nice play" or was that a shove of anger?  They had to call a timeout on the play he shoved him, not sure if there was a disagreement.
