Surprised to see the UWW vs UWS game prediction of 38-10 given UWO beat them 56-10 on 9/22. Did you split the difference between the UWO and UWEC margin of victories? UWO was + 46, UWEC was +14 = 32 pts / 2 =  16...so 36-10 score rounded to 38-10? How about that shoddy math for a Friday, haha  ???

I was more looking at the style of game that UW-W tends to play.  While they are certainly capable of big plays, it's hard to predict a deluge like UW-O put on Stout.  The Warhawks tend to get their opponent's best shot.  In watching their games, it sometimes has the feel that they spend nearly the entire first half looking to attack different areas to see how the defense responds and then they go for the jugular in the second half.  I'm not saying this is what is really happening, just that it feels like that sometimes.  Whether it's a a wearing down of the defense, halftime adjustments, or simply the way the games tend to unfold, it seems like UW-W is more of a pound, pound, pound pull-away team than a blitzkrieg that has the opponent on it's back 21-0 before they know what hit them.  That tends to lead to scores more like 38-10.  Just my opinion.

Bleed purple...I like the predictions, thanks as always for sharing.   But you are  too conservative with the Oshkosh pick.   UWP by a larger margin.  EC D backs showed how to cover downfield to earn sacks.... Platteville will add to that effort this weekend by stopping Wara at the line with that fake handoff.  As for EC...statistically it should be EC, but LAX makes me nervous.   I'll be at that game enjoying the bluffs, and hopefully a beautiful fall view and victory.

You might be right about Platteville.  I see them as a team on the rise. But Oshkosh is, too.  I'd be surprised if it's easy for UW-P, but who knows?

I think LaCrosse should make you nervous.  When I do my projections, I look at how I see the game unfolding and then project the score accordingly.  There are several scenarios I see as possible in that game.  But I am riding Neu against a LaCrosse defense that has given up the most passing yards and allowed the highest completion percentage of all WIAC teams coming in.  Their opponents include UMHB, UW-SP,and Jamestown.  Not exactly passing juggernauts.  That made the difference for me.

The Titans/Pioneer match-up is proving to be the hardest one to call.  Maybe it is my succumbing to 17's persistent touting of Oshkosh or my perennial misjudging of Platteville in the pick em's every year but I am sticking with the Titans to win tomorrow. Stats don't make me confident that UWP can stop Wara and I always take those with a grain of salt anyway, unless I am dealing with the common opponent factor.  So all of you who have chosen to back the Pioneers should feel comforted because I always screw up my picks when they are involved.  ;) :D ;D   Besides, I have done well the last several weeks so the odds dictate that I am due for a bad week.   :P

Heading to the Perk in a few hours!!!!!  GO WARHAWKS!!!

413, I am predicting a season ending W for the Cougars tonight.
Love this prediction!  They need it to improve upon last years record.  Not the record they hoped for but turning around a 1-8 team is going to take the time it takes and what is most important is that the staff has them going in the right direction.  Going to tailgate for the Warhawks tonight and then head out to watch the Cougars play. Wish I didn't have to make a choice but it will be a great day of football!
   GO WARHAWKS AND COUGARS!

413 I have a disclaimer for you.  I did not pick Oshkosh to win tomorrow (and it breaks my heart).  I hope they do desite my pickem because I think they are the WIAC's best chance for two teams in the playoffs.  Platteville, without a bunch of starters, played a heck of a game against UWW.

Emotion and personal bias are taking turns slapping me upside the head for not sticking with the Titans.

I came across this - thought you might like it.  What's a BLUGOLD?

BLUGOLD: A state of mind, sense of pride, inner confidence and incomparable positive attitude that encompasses the student body of the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire symbolized by two colors, Blue and Gold.

Hmmm...  I remember asking the UWEC players what a bluegold was while we would be in pre-game warm ups on the field.   Would always get the same response: F%&* Y%# Pisswater.  It must have been the way I asked the question I guess. ::)

MasterJedi

Come on Warhawks, give me a nice 50+ birthday bash win!  8-)  :P

I did some research about the origin of the "Blugold" in a previous blog post I did a few weeks ago. Everything I found pointed to that's what their colors are (Blue and Gold)....and nothing more.

Here's an old article I came across in my research

History of the Blugold

Before this next round of games start I want to congratulate Josh Peterson (offense) and Ricky Marteney (special teams) for being named WIAC players of the week. Nice recognition after the road win at Stevens Point.
