Nice stat line for Blanchard tonight:  passing 20-28  294 yd 3 TD  0 INT,  rushing 8 for 64 yds

He was under a lot of pressure. Stout had a nice pass rush tonight.  I believe I counted at least 4 dropped passes as well.

Coach Leipold said he sprained his ankle.  The X-rays were negative, but it didn't sound like he knew much more in terms of if/how long he would be out.  He just made a general comment like: "You never know about those things (sprained ankles).

Blugold - agree with you on all points.  If Platteville is healthy, I expect them to come on strong.  And EC/LaX...I believe EC will come out far ahead...but then you never know.  WIAC teams are full of surprises, any given Saturday, and I think LaX is on the upswing and will continue to improve throughout the year.

I came across this - thought you might like it.  What's a BLUGOLD?

BLUGOLD: A state of mind, sense of pride, inner confidence and incomparable positive attitude that encompasses the student body of the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire symbolized by two colors, Blue and Gold.

Another great win for the Warhawks!

I hope UW-O wins today so next week's game will have the feeling of the Conference Title game. I will be going with a friend or two. I might be breaking out the old Warhawk jacket - the black one with the logo's on it and all....just a pullover windbreaker so if its too cold it may not be suitable...Hope for better weather than what is predicted.

ty bp...never a good thing. I made the comment over on the up-date board during the game that WW pass defense really started to struggle in the third quarter when Arnold went down. They were especially having trouble with the short slants to the WR and TE over the middle - isn't that where Arnold when he's in there? The DB's looked completely out of position and lost during that 3rd quarter and into the fourth. I hope it wasn't Arnold's absense that made the defense appear vulnerable. Give credit to Stout to attacking a weak spot. UWW seemed to correct the deficiencies in the latter part of the 4th & the 2 INT's helped regain some normalcy.

That's exactly what I saw.  There were multiple coverage problems last night.  Lance said there were "awareness issues back there that we will address this week."  The soft spots in the defensive backfield were way too big in the second half, especially in the short zones over the middle. Stout did a great job of attacking the flats in the first half.  I don't know if UW-W over adjusted in the second half, exposing the middle or if the absence of Baldwin led to some misalignments.  Whatever the case, Stout's offense did a great job and the Hawks have much work to do.  They were 18-32 and had completed only 46.9% of their passes coming into this game.

On the first third quarter TD, the receiver was hit in stride over the middle and our DB took a bad angle and then missed the tackle and there was no one left to make the play. The second was a little bit different.  Our DB was running stride for stride with the receiver down the left sideline and then just before the ball arrived, the receiver put on a closing burst, caught the ball in stride, and took it to the house.  I don't know if he is just faster or if the DB slipped a little (he fell, but it was after the catch), but the closing burst gave the receiver significant separation really quickly.

The two picks were really good to see.  It's a great time of year for the takeaways to start coming in bunches!

Well that's good news, at least it's nothing too serious. Hopefully we can get Josh Williams back for the Oshkosh game, if Arnold can't go.

I think this will be a VERY close game next week.  :-[

Before this next round of games start I want to congratulate Josh Peterson (offense) and Ricky Marteney (special teams) for being named WIAC players of the week. Nice recognition after the road win at Stevens Point.
Your Blue Devils put up quite a fight last night and gave the Warhawks plenty to handle, BDB.  They'll be winning more games, I have no doubt.

Not if Wara doesn't play....  It appears he is out with an injury today against Platteville.

UWEC 31, UWL 21

Blugolds come out guns blazing, go up 14-0 after scoring on first two possessions and were up 14-0 after the first quarter...

After UWL took ball down field after opening kickoff and missed a 30-yard field goal, UWEC scored on first possession, going 80 yards, mainly through the air. Nice back-of-end zone 13-yard TD catch by 'Golds Mike O'Connell...

UWEC then blocks a punt on the Eagles' next possession, recover at the 25 and ultimately score on another TD pass from Austin Neu to O'Connell again...

Looked like a blowout in the making, but Eagle RB Ben Hertrampf began what was a nice day rushing for him with a 57-yard run to make it 14-7. He had a five-yard dive at the end of the play to sneak the ball across the goal line (but had his hand out of bounds on the 1, before he scored  ;) ) He would score again just before the half with a 2-yard run, to make it 14-14 at half...

After seeing Hertrampf run up the middle the whole first half (he would tally 206 yards on 22 carries, and added another TD), the Golds were finally able to get a lead in the second half, and shut the Eagles running game down...

Time of possession in the second half was about 23-7 minutes for UWEC, who then went up 24-14, with a TD run from Matt Olson (good to see him back in the lineup after two weeks out) and a FG. Were able to play keep away and milk the clock by getting the running game going, but Hertrampf cut the lead to 24-21 with his third TD at the beginning of the 4th Q.

Key play of the game, and a gutsy call - Blugolds up 24-21, facing 4th and 2 at their own 38, called a fake punt. Austin Neu was able to sneak in on the punt team, along with David Goodman, and they hooked up with a 9 yard pass to move the chains and keep the drive going. Neu would cap it with a 1-yard TD run to make it 31-21...

Notes: UWL was consistently able to run up the middle and weren't able to muster much of a passing game. They seemed to only try to stretch the field three times, all incomplete. But UWEC never took any shots down field...

Three crucial penalties killed UWL - one on the drive that put UWEC up 21-14. Golds were not able to pick up a first at the Eagles 44, sacked Neu, but a holding play negated the loss and gave UWEC a first down at the 34... Plus, on the Blugolds' final scoring drive, to make it 31-21, the 'Golds gained 26 yards on flags, via an Eagle personal foul and pass interference call...

Neu had two TDs and 152 yards passing on 18-28, but kept the chains moving with 52 yards rushing on 11 carries, many critical runs... 'Golds were able to get 5 sacks. Clean game - only one turnover between the two; UWEC picks off last pass of first half in the end zone, on a heave, after Eagles got to the UWEC 28... Golds owned ball about 40 to 20 minutes... Winds made for some ugly kickoffs...

Well both teams held serve to set up Whitewater at Oshkosh next week with 1st Place on the line.  Be curious to see what the board sets for a line on this one, as I'm sure a lot of it will dependent on the severity of the Wara injury.

Way to go Titans.  I'm sure glad I was wrong in the pickems.
I hope Wara is healed up to play next week- as well as Greg Arnold.

I wonder if a Titan loss to UWW without Nate Wara would make a difference in playoff selections (if both win their remaining games)?

Agree with the synopsis of the EC game.  How Neu snuck into that punt play is beyond me as everyone in the stands noticed! EC fans we're trying not to say anything out loud...but LAX fans near me were yelling out FAKE FAKE...but no one else caught it.

Sorry missed what happened to Wara....I missed that.
