There has been a break, sort of, in the information blackout out of Oshkosh on the status of UWO quarterback Nate Wara for tomorrow's 1st place showdown game with U-Dub-Dub....

The following is an exerpt from today's Oshkosh Northwestern preview story of tomorrow's game.

One question mark will come with who is starting at the quarterback position for the Titans. Starter Nate Wara left last week's game with an injury. Backup Nick Olla came in and preformed solidly, throwing for 100 yards and scoring on a running touchdown against the Pioneers in Wara's absence.

Although Cerroni wouldn't divulge who would be taking the snaps on Saturday against he Warhawks, he was certain that his offensive output would be just the same under either quarterback.

"We are very fortunate to have two quarterbacks that we built this offense around," he said. "I think we are going to be all right."

Sounds to me like Wara's out.

A part of me wants to see Wara play, just to see how the Warhawks handle him. Then again, I should be careful what I wish for.

UWW has already faced him twice as a starter and Wara has played his two worst statistical games...maybe it's time to see if the back-up fares any better.  :-\

If he doesn't play it'll be b/c he's hurt, not b/c what he did statistically the last two seasons.

Coach Cerroni knows better than that

Do you think that's somehow unique to Wara?

Not at all. A fair number of QB's recently have had bad games against WW. A few have had good games, too.

But, of all people, Cerroni should know that Wara has struggled against WW, yet the quote from Cerroni in that Northwestern article that "...he was certain that his offensive output would be just the same under either quarterback," might suggest that if there was any question that Wara wasn't 100% healthy, starting his back-up would be the best option for the Titans. Why start a QB who, when healthy, provides the same offensive output as the back-up, but isn't healthy.  It would reason that the back-up would provide a greater offensive output in this case.  Hey, I just want the Titans to put the best guy on the field under the status quo. In this case, it might be Olla.

Parsing coach-speak isn't going to get you anywhere. Certainly you've read enough coaches' quotes to know better.

Condolences to the UWL Eagles football family, as the program has lost Roland Christensen, long-time assistant coach, and interim coach in 1992, when they won the National Championship...

I don't think what Wara has done against us is as important as what he does for the Oshkosh offense.  No offense to the backup but Oshkosh is a better team with Wara at quarterback and if there is anyway that he can play he will be under center.  Cerroni may be confident in both of his QBs but he knows full well they're a better team with Wara playing than they are without him.

Really wish there was video for the Whitewater-Oshkosh game. On paper it looks like a real battle.

BTW I trust NO coach's pre-game chatter. The first series of downs is the only truth in football and even then he may be bluffing.

Sad day.  My condolences, too, to Coach Christensen's family and the UW-L family.  Very nice article as well.  It sounds like he was one of the good guys and one of the guys that makes D3 special.
