As for the piling on and  from the Comish no less.. I can only assume from your defensive responses that you both actually attended MIAC schools for undergrad.

I attended The Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C., a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Does this help? You can look that up on the site, you know, rather than speculating foolishly.

I wasn't speculating...just trying to add humor.  Sorry I hit a nerve.  To make up for it may I offer my admiration of DC schools.   My sis is a Gallaudet grad.  I lived in the district for awhile with GW connection.  But yes my heart bleeds Blu and Gold.  And yes they've always been an unpredictable team.  In my day the hardwood was the focus of attention and Zorn arena had more fans rockin' the rafters than fill some of the WIAC Football stadiums( yesterday or today)  Ahhhh but that was a lifetime ago, and the Blu And Gold Hoops of yore are no more...although we're hopeful for the new coach era. :). But that would be a comment for another board.

The posts regarding the second team into the playoffs  provide great commentary.  Valid points and perspective all around.

Looks like Pat scared away another one......It appears Blugold 89.7FM closed his d3boards account.

Perhaps. Not my intention, to be sure, but I was glad that other WIAC fans agreed that his premise didn't make any sense.

I can understand where he was coming from because quite frankly I was of the same opinion when I first started posting here.  But I think after you've been around awhile you get a better sense of how things work and your preconceived notions are dispelled. Besides nobody wants to listen to the 600 pound gorilla whine. ;D ;)

Coppage needs 824 yards to catch R J Bowers (Grove City College) and move into second place on the DIII career rushing list.  That seems very attainable.  Perhaps less attainable is the 1544 yards he would need to get to catch Nate Kmic (Mount Union) and become college's all time leading rusher.  His 37th 100 yard rushing game on Saturday moved him past Kmic's 36 career 100+ yard games.

What does that comment about the 600 lb gorilla mean?  I could take that several ways.

It is simply an anology to the relative size of our enrollments.

So seeing that UWW had 4 offensive starters go down saturday, does anybody know if it was bad or will they be back this week? Losing 4 guys is very hard on a team.

Who were the 4 offensive starters to go down? I thought bp said only the center was on crutches for most of the game. On defense, Sam Overton got hurt on the goal line play and Greg Arnold was only able to go 3 plays with the injury that carried over from the Stout game. Was there someone else?

From watching the game it looked like Menzel and Poenitsch were hurt...not sure who else though on the offense.

Also, if anyone is interested, I posted my write-ups for Saturday's games.

I'm really sorry Blugold is gone.  I enjoyed talking UWEC with him.  Blugold - if you're still reading - email me at fballfan@hotmail.com if you wish so we can continue to talk.
LEt's see.  Prime quit.  Has Emma posted lately? Blugold has left.  I can understand why.  Anytime someone posts something that is disagreed with, it appears that some of you (not all - most of you are fine) take that as an invitation to come out with both barrels blasting.  Or get a few little digs in.  One poster on here actually deleted some of his posts after re-reading them.  Why do you think you don't get many other posters?
Seriously....is it necessary to post that someone is "speculating foolishly"?  Wow.  That's a slam in my book. You guys that have been around for awhile may know it all...or think you do (in some circumstances I'm not sure)....but you show little tolerance for others.  Badgerwarhawk stated it nicely when he said he could understand because he once thought that way too.
Or perhaps some of you just need to re-read your emails before you post and really think about how you sound.
Sometimes I don't believe some of you really want to attract new posters.  There isn't much tolerance for anyone who thinks differently than some on here.
And I know...someone is going to post "if you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen" or something of that sort, because I saw something similar in the years past.

I, for one, am always up for new posters, Especially if they're NOT a UWW fan. I like reading what other people have to say about other WIAC football teams.

It's a shame Blugold had to leave.

I was hoping my WIAC football blog would help surface some other WIAC fans (outside of Whitewater) to this board....I don't think it's working out that way though.  :-\

Great story, thanks for the link.

I liked how a member from the NESCAC admitted that the size of the school and Public vs. Private has no relevance in a conference's athletic success.

Well actually, what she said was "doesn't matter as much".  Easy for a representative of a conference to say whose schools have endowments such that they could just buy UWW and its football team (perhaps a slight bit of hyperbole! ;D), and who field teams in so many 'minor' sports that they ALWAYS win the all-sports trophy!  (Besides, what the heck does she know about d3 football?  IMO, NESCAC is not even IN d3 football - with not only no playoffs, but no non-con games, they are a closed loop of their own.)

I am NOT among those who think WIAC schools have such overwhelming advantages to the point that they don't belong in d3, but they DO have some major advantages.  Many privates (especially in the east) are having a terrible time being able to recruit football depth because $45+K tuition scares off too many potential players.

I think it's because they exist in a larger television/media market.  GB TV covers St Norbert more than Oshkosh.  And all the d3 programs live in the shadow of the Packers coverage.  where as LaCrosse , Eau Claire, Stout and Point get regular coverage and radio coverage and Lots of ink on the old-fashioned press and in the web sites.  Oshkosh doesn't get that kind of coverage.  That coverage is like advertising.

Exactly.  And to take it a step further, Oshkosh is over by several private schools (Ripon, Lakeland, Marion, Lawrence, ST Norbs etc) who probably draw some locals/alumni.  The privates are over on the east side, there are not many that I am aware of surrounding LaX, EC, UWSP etc.  And while Marquette and UWMil don't have a football team, they do generate school loyalties and it possible people just don't think of UWO.  It's a shame.  It was also mentioned that UWO televises its games on the campus.  I don't know if other schools do that, but doesn't that discourage student attendance?  I grew up near UWSP and they were always on the local news and in the papers.  But hey...what else is near Stevens Point?  And what else is there to do but go to a local college game?  We didn't have any big city attractions to occupy us either.  The internet video is really nice for those who don't live nearby, but I can see that eroding fan attendance also.  Particularly when the weather isn't the greatest!

Sorry but I'm pretty sure Titan TV has no effect on game attendance.  I'd love to see more support for UWO but there are 3 big things that hinder it from gaining the support other schools get.  The first one you mentioned and deals with the community as much as the campus and that is the size of the city, because it is a city not a town like most WIAC schools.  So there are many more things to do when sporting events are happening.  As you also mentioned, the lack of commercial media coverage does play a role because of the lack of local TV stations in Oshkosh.  Other schools might have their highlights shown on the evening news.  Titan sports don't make it on to Green Bay stations. The third thing is the campus culture.  Other schools, for whatever reason, have a more prevailing idea that going to games is cool and something fun to do.  Not at Oshkosh.  The campus, by in large, is very segmented and individual.  Everybody has something going on but its always their own thing.  Students don't go to sporting events or plays or concerts or hall activities because they are so consumed in what they have going on.  That's just the way it is. At Whitewater its cool to go to a football game, Point packs the house for Men's basketball, it's a culture and a part of campus life that Oshkosh just does not have. I think that is the biggest reason Oshkosh doesn't have the support these other schools do but thank goodness the Black and Yellows (the previously mentioned in other posts, sometimes under the wrong name but thats ok, newly created student section at Oshkosh) are trying to change that culture.  I for one am happy to see that change.
