the lack of commercial media coverage does play a role because of the lack of local TV stations in Oshkosh.  Other schools might have their highlights shown on the evening news. Titan sports don't make it on to Green Bay stations.

I think that's the case for most WIAC schools. The Madison/Milwaukee media market doesn't show Whitewater highlights (but they will for playoffs). However...the Milwaukee news did air some highlights from the Whitewater/Oshkosh game last weekend. I was pleasantly surprised to see that, b/c it's a rarity.

The third thing is the campus culture.  Other schools, for whatever reason, have a more prevailing idea that going to games is cool and something fun to do.  Not at Oshkosh.  The campus, by in large, is very segmented and individual.  Everybody has something going on but its always their own thing.  Students don't go to sporting events or plays or concerts or hall activities because they are so consumed in what they have going on.  That's just the way it is. At Whitewater its cool to go to a football game, Point packs the house for Men's basketball, it's a culture and a part of campus life that Oshkosh just does not have. I think that is the biggest reason Oshkosh doesn't have the support these other schools do but thank goodness the Black and Yellows (the previously mentioned in other posts, sometimes under the wrong name but thats ok, newly created student section at Oshkosh) are trying to change that culture.  I for one am happy to see that change.

I think student attendance comes with success. Both the Whitewater football team AND Point basketball team (like you mentioned above) has experienced NCAA championships for their support. I don't think that's a coincidence that the students come out for those game.

Plus I think it hurts Oshkosh a little becuase where the football stadium is in relationship to the campus. It requires a buss ride to get to the event, rather than a short walk across the campus.

I know we enjoy poking fun at Wesley here, but keep them in your thoughts as their assistant coach goes through a terrible time with his son...

This is true, there are other factors as well, large number of students that transfer in from 2 year schools, high number of commuters etc. The stadium location has been over blown in the past, not saying that you are doing so.  My main counter example is that Eau Claire's stadium is also a ways off campus and they get pretty good attendance. Also, this isn't just a football issue its a Basketball issue as well and Kolf is literally right across the street from 3 dorms and the main dining facility.

I played in front of plenty of barely attended games as a Warhawk. The weather makes a difference. Most students went home on the weekends.

Today, being the champs really helps attendance.

Interesting...I didn't know that.

1st Regional Rankings are out.

I'm half surprised to see Whitewater ranked number one this early. I guess playing Oshkosh already helped, along with possibly playing La Crosse as non-conferece game.

Mr. Ypsi

02, those are estimated rankings, by d3football.com.

I trust they have probably done a pretty good job, but those are NOT official NCAA regional rankings.

As for the piling on and  from the Comish no less.. I can only assume from your defensive responses that you both actually attended MIAC schools for undergrad.

I attended The Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C., a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Does this help? You can look that up on the site, you know, rather than speculating foolishly.

I wasn't speculating...just trying to add humor.  Sorry I hit a nerve.  To make up for it may I offer my admiration of DC schools.   My sis is a Gallaudet grad.  I lived in the district for awhile with GW connection.  But yes my heart bleeds Blu and Gold.  And yes they've always been an unpredictable team.  In my day the hardwood was the focus of attention and Zorn arena had more fans rockin' the rafters than fill some of the WIAC Football stadiums( yesterday or today)  Ahhhh but that was a lifetime ago, and the Blu And Gold Hoops of yore are no more...although we're hopeful for the new coach era. :). But that would be a comment for another board.

The posts regarding the second team into the playoffs  provide great commentary.  Valid points and perspective all around.

Looks like Pat scared away another one......It appears Blugold 89.7FM closed his d3boards account.

Perhaps. Not my intention, to be sure, but I was glad that other WIAC fans agreed that his premise didn't make any sense.
I'm really sorry Blugold is gone.  I enjoyed talking UWEC with him.  Blugold - if you're still reading - email me at fballfan@hotmail.com if you wish so we can continue to talk.
LEt's see.  Prime quit.  Has Emma posted lately? Blugold has left.  I can understand why.  Anytime someone posts something that is disagreed with, it appears that some of you (not all - most of you are fine) take that as an invitation to come out with both barrels blasting.  Or get a few little digs in.  One poster on here actually deleted some of his posts after re-reading them.  Why do you think you don't get many other posters?
Seriously....is it necessary to post that someone is "speculating foolishly"?  Wow.  That's a slam in my book. You guys that have been around for awhile may know it all...or think you do (in some circumstances I'm not sure)....but you show little tolerance for others.  Badgerwarhawk stated it nicely when he said he could understand because he once thought that way too.
Or perhaps some of you just need to re-read your emails before you post and really think about how you sound.
Sometimes I don't believe some of you really want to attract new posters.  There isn't much tolerance for anyone who thinks differently than some on here.
And I know...someone is going to post "if you can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen" or something of that sort, because I saw something similar in the years past.

I, for one, am always up for new posters, Especially if they're NOT a UWW fan. I like reading what other people have to say about other WIAC football teams.

It's a shame Blugold had to leave.

I was hoping my WIAC football blog would help surface some other WIAC fans (outside of Whitewater) to this board....I don't think it's working out that way though.  :-\
Been out of town on business for a couple days and just getting caught up.  Very disappointed that Blugold chose to leave and also that Emma has not been on in a while.   A little bit of verbal jousting is good for the mind and frankly keeps the interest up in what would become a pretty boring Board if we all agreed and were all supporters of UWW.

When I first started some posters pointed out the errors in my thinking, especially before the 2009 Stagg Bowl when several Mount fans and posters gave me a Board education.  Even some of the UWW fan's have challenged my posts.    413 has gently guided me the right direction on more than one occassion and the worldly and highly knowledgeable Bobo has corrected me numerous times.  In fact in the last week 02Warhawk reminded me that Wara was a Junior when I posted he was a Senior (all the Wara's got me mixed up!).   So, my point is go with the flow, enjoy the jousting and the cameraderie.....after all this is all just for fun.......right?   - ;D 8-)

So seeing that UWW had 4 offensive starters go down saturday, does anybody know if it was bad or will they be back this week? Losing 4 guys is very hard on a team.

Who were the 4 offensive starters to go down? I thought bp said only the center was on crutches for most of the game. On defense, Sam Overton got hurt on the goal line play and Greg Arnold was only able to go 3 plays with the injury that carried over from the Stout game. Was there someone else?

The other starter was Menzel.  I didn't know for sure what was going on with him when I wrote the game summary.

I think that UW Superior should bring back Football,  I always enjoyed a 9 hour bus ride to play infront of a few hundred people.  Travis, there were a few games where we had 6-7K at the game.  It's nothing like the crowds now a days though.  P.S.... I'm only around 245lbs.

After carefully reading Keith's ATN, I'm getting a little worried that UWW might get screwed over again, with St. Thomas possibly leap frogging Whitewater to get the #1 Regional Ranking when it's all said and done. Then again I might be overreacting like usual. However, after last season, I have reason to worry.

St. Thomas has a better regional record and strength of schedule. That win over Campbellsville doesn't squat for us, and the Franklin win (who is ranked in the North Region) does little for us.

Same goes for UWO...their Mount game doesn't do awhole lot for them regionaly. However, that regional win against Central is HUGE for the Titans come playoff time.

KitchenSink

C'mon, 02 - don't start that now.

I mean, you are right as rain.  I'll never forget last year's bracket show where UWW got the royal shaft, and clearly it can happen again.  But let's win homecoming, and then finish out the season.

We could end the year with something like 15 conferences featuring undefeated teams as of now.  That's just a bit mind-boggling, so let's not go there.  (yet)
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Excellent post, Grasshopper........  ;) I have told this story many times before, so forgive me, veterans, but when I first started posting on the boards, anonymously, it was back in 05 and the Warhawks were making noise for the first time at the national level and we got some brutal treatment by some posters from our new opponents every week.  Years later, I am friends behind the scenes with some of them.  Hell, a Linfield Cat fan who was particularly hard on me has now given us a standing invite to come to the west coast for a fishing trip. I have read nothing the last few weeks that I would consider disrespectful by any UWW poster, (but, BoBo, you do get just a little patronizing sometimes,)   :-* that should drive several of the new posters away, IMHO.  Disagreement is not, necessarily, disrespect.   Yes, the testosterone gets a little high in here from time to time, but hey, if I can take it...........  ;)
The point is,  89, 17, fballfan made some valid points that their views didn't seem welcomed and that should be acknowledged and taken into consideration.  But the idea that posters from other programs aren't welcome on here by all the regulars is nonsense too.  Different reactions to opinions is the point of message boards, isn't it?  But it is good to be reminded that anonymity behind a keyboard can be a dangerous thing.  The tone and inflection that is meant in a post does not translate in print many times. So with that in mind, I hope that the new guys will continue to participate and like WD said so eloquently, "go with the flow, enjoy the jousting and the camaraderie."
And we, UWW posters, need to remember that the players aren't the only ones with a bulls eye on their backs. It is easy for others to perceive arrogance where none is intended when it comes from a UWW poster while we are enjoying this spectacular run of success while it lasts.
Now I have to prepare for my tailgate tomorrow.  Feel free to stop by.  Sounds like 02 is kicking my butt in the hospitality department.   ;) :D ;D
