It was Adrian.

They blew up the concept of geography - to a large extent, it almost seems.

As I read the brackets, they did geographical clustering for four team pods, then kinda mixed-and-matched the pods for the overall 'regions'.  Round three may be a windfall for the airlines! ;)

I actually don't mind it....  It's nice to have some "new" teams to play against that may not realize what WIAC football is before it's too late.
Too late for what cubs?
Meaning the game is already decided.....  Not trying to be "brash" just think some teams don't realize the level of physicality in the WIAC week in and week out.

You can rest assured that there won't be any cocky MIAA posters coming in with "UWW has never seen ...."!  We are all well aware of WIAC football (heck - the next win over any CCIW team will be the first in a long time)!

So, in other words, if the MIAA can't even beat a CCIW team, how in the world...

Agreed. Most MIAA posters know that the WIAC and the MIAC are on a different level then us, and yet hopefully over time the conference can work to be stronger and someday challenge both conferences in the playoffs consistently like Trine did last season.

Congrats to all the teams that made the playoffs.

I really have no idea how the Selection Committee came up with this bracket, but I really like it. I don't mean in terms of fairness or equity, I just mean in terms of UW-W having the prospect of playing different teams and some intriguing match-ups. I'm sure there are lots of great games/possibilities out there, but here are the ones I think are especially intriguing at first glance:

FIRST ROUND:

Redlands at Mary Hardin-Baylor- Hard to know what to make of Redlands ever since they beat North Central. We will find out in a hurry when they face the Crusaders.

Monmouth at Illinois Wesleyan- Record setting QB Alex Tanney taking on best defense they have seen all year. Big step up in class for the Scots

Dubuque at North Central- Record setting WR Michael Zweifel and high flying Spartans offense playing one of the best defenses in the country.

POTENTIAL SECOND ROUND

Kean/Salisbury
Wesley/Linfield
McMurry/UMHB
St. Thomas/Illinois Wesleyan

POTENTIAL QUARTERFINAL

North Central/Mount Union
Salisbury/UW-W

POTENTIAL SEMIFINALS

St. Thomas/UW-W

Mount Union or North Central/UMHB

I'm going to come out and say what every UWW is thinking. UWW got a HUGE break this evening. Mount Union, NCC, Welsey, Wabash, MHB and Linfield are all one the other side of the bracket. Whitewater has been not playing up to its potential of late, and any one of these teams could knock UWW out of the playoffs this year. But Luckily we might only have to face one of these teams. I said MIGHT....so nobody chew my head off for being cocky!

I'm just shocked how this bracket turned out  :o Grant it, I'm already worrying playing about a potential second-round matchup against a much improved Franklin team.

The most anticipated game has to be NCC possibly traveling to Mount. The winner of that game will make it to the Stagg Bowl, I have a fealing.

bp - what do you make of the fact that it seems Del Valley was made a #1 and St. Thomas a #2?

02 Warhawk - you worry TOO much!!  ;)

BTW 02 Warhawk, what evidence do you fall back on to say Franklin is "much improved?" They have beaten all the teams that they traditionally beat on (and by much closer scores than in past years...I might add - looking at their results, they have given up a LOT of points defensively to some weak competition) and got creamed by the only good team they faced.  I can't think of anything that even remotely suggests they are much improved since that week 2 game they hosted Whitewater.

Listening to the committee chair on the radio as I type this, it sounds like if Oshkosh hadn't lost that game to La Crosse, they would have made the playoffs with 2 losses - over some 1 loss teams - considering her response to why SJF made it with 2 losses.

I'll touch on this, this time next week.

I'll give Albion a little respect before we start looking past them. 8-)

It would have been nice to see where they would have been placed had they beaten LaCrosse....  Unfortunately, they just couldn't get the job done in OT.

Wow.  UWW fans can comfortably make their reservations for Salem right now.  No one in region will give you a game and none of the potential Semi-Final opponents have any kind of playoff history that makes one think they could go on the road and win on that big of a stage.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!
