Just a note for S U Backer. Most D III schools are Private Institutions and have fairly high academic standards. We have been over this many times with the WIACers, who do not seem to think this is a plus on their side. Neither do they believe that lower costs have any relevance in the recruiting of athletes.

These facts also coupled with the fact that there are little to no FCS or D2 schools in Wisconsin also gives those schools an advantage.

I also think it's a well known fact that once UWW experienced the embarrassment of sending me into the world with a diploma, they immediately instituted enhanced qualification processes and overall academic standards.  Today's players should not be punished for the lack of performance of people like me.

emma17, I dont have a good read on this game either.  At the beginning of the year I figured the final 8 was about as good as Wesley would do this year, just didnt think the overall talent was there.  McSweeney is as good as any out there right now, but I always worry when the leading rusher is a QB and you dont run the triple option.  The receivers are ok, but vastly improved from earlier this year.  The D front 7 are good, the secondary not so much, but they did make the play that turned the game around last week.  In past years the team usually leveled off and played evenly until they lost to the usually better team, UWW, Mount, of UMHB.  UMHB passes a little better, but they will still try to run the ball and I think Wesley is familiar with their offense, sort of like the Salisbury situation.  UMHB gave up plenty of rushing yards to Davis from ETBU, and that should worry them since he got less than 100 against Wesley.  A couple of weeks ago I would not have given Wesley much chance, but after last week I think they are better than 50 - 50 to win the game.  If Mays can go on the D line, not sure of the severity of the knee injury from last week, than I take that up to 70 - 30.  the weather seems iffy with possible storms, so that may effect the outcome also.

Oh, brother, here we go with that "advantage" crap again.  Been debunked before, guess it is time again.

How about the disadvantage having only 100 players when many, many others have 200?
Or not being able to offer all kinds of, "academic money!!!" (wink, wink,)   ::)  Know that for a fact as #33 had a lot of it thrown at him. He chose UWW for the football program and coaching staff in 03, (before we crashed the national scene,) and we paid every dime of out-of-state tuition!

413,

Great parents like you make whatever sacrifices to support their children. Hats off to you +K. My wife and I paid every dime to send our son to Mount Union. While I thought the cost was high at the time. Not long after our daughter was accepted at Pepperdine for her masters. In comparison Mount as a private school was inexpensive! :)

I guess there are some who are sensitive, and read things into what is not there. Please let's not get into this again. Since Sink said it was debunked (by whom, and how?) it will sit as it is. Just one last note, just because a state school might have a mandate that requires them to admit students with lower test scores, and high school GPA, doesn't mean that that state school does not provide an excellent education for those willing to persue it, nor does it mean that the elite at one school are different from the elite at another. State Universities have the luxury of offering more programs than a private school. Please don't take offense since none was meant. I lived in Virginia for a number of years and would put up UVa, and other of their state institutions against just about any private school. I have really no frame of reference on the WIAC schools regarding their academic rigor in academic areas. I do know they have majors in fields that SJU didn't have, so individuals who might be interested in,  say, a Health and Physical Education major, couldn't go to some schools for that. It strikes me that an athletically inclined person might be interested in such a major. I'm just sayin'.....

Yup, our bad for completely misreading this as a knock on our public school.   ;) :D

I do like the back pedaling post, however.  Some very good points.  Nicely done.  +karma ;D

Just to be clear...Salisbury is not a private school...it is a public school and part of the Maryland University System...and the tuition is reasonable for in-state students.  It is also reasonable for New Jersey kids due to in-state tuition in NJ being high, thus allowing SU to recruit there successfully. I hope my comment was not mis-construed as a knock on any school, public or private, regarding academic performance. I don't buy some folks argument in thinking that public schools are academically inferior to private schools. Public schools by and large have great academics, just like many private schools. Obviously there are exceptions, but easy academics and low tuition are not the reason that Whitewater nor Salisbury are meeting in this game. They are here because they have earned their way here, through hard work. In watching some film, I think we may be a season away from being ready for this challenge, but of course I hope I am wrong!

Same thing with current #65.  Several private D3 schools offered major "merit" money. He chose UWW for exactly the same reasons.

Bleedpurple, O2, BoBo,

Based upon the fan poll UWW- 42, Salisbury -24. I just do not see UWW giving up 24 pts.   :)

(IMO) Fans from around the country want to see a close game. The reality is UWW scores more, SU less (IMO). Raiders need to make a statement, too, 68!!

BoBo,

Good point! IMHO, The Raiders win bigger than the spread. Coach Kehres is getting playoff mode, ran a screen pass for the first time this season last week, so the playbook is now open for the final run. Hopefully, I do see them making a statement! :)

My initial post was in response to the Salisbury poster who made reference to the standards there. Please reread with that in mind.
