Bleedpurple, O2, BoBo,

Based upon the fan poll UWW- 42, Salisbury -24. I just do not see UWW giving up 24 pts.  :)

I think it has to do with Salisbury's high point total this year and the question regarding UW-W facing an option team.  I also think as teams advance in the playoffs, they are seen as increasingly "legitimate" the deeper their run goes.  Personally, I really don't have a feel for them. I don't know if they are a paper Gull or the real bird!  In listening to this week's d3football.com podcast, the guys seem to feel they won't be physically outmatched against UW-W.

Obviously, I hope your right! I have confidence in the Warhawk coaching staff and I also believe UWW to be an extremely disciplined defense, which certainly has to help against the option.

Isn't it great that we are still talking football on December 1st with high hopes that our season keeps going just a couple more weeks?

Gotta take a step back and appreciate this. It was just a dream we had when I played.

I remember meeting a huge truck driver once a few years after school and he had a Mt. Union Football shirt on. We talked for a good 30 minutes about his program. I knew so little about them as there was no D3 football.com back then. Its hard enough for the Milwaukee Jorunal to write more than a paragraph about UWW on only the Sunday sports section.

I was really excitted when I saw that we had scheduled them for a non-conference series shortly after that. And then it all started.....

Thanks Pat, appreciate all you do.

Just a note for S U Backer. Most D III schools are Private Institutions and have fairly high academic standards. We have been over this many times with the WIACers, who do not seem to think this is a plus on their side. Neither do they believe that lower costs have any relevance in the recruiting of athletes.
Yup, our bad for completely misreading this as a knock on our public school.   ;) :D

I do like the back pedaling post, however.  Some very good points.  Nicely done.  +karma ;D

My initial post was in response to the Salisbury poster who made reference to the standards there. Please reread with that in mind.
Oh, I understand the context surrounding where the comment came from.  You didn't just revive the old dead horse just to needle, "the WIACers," but it did come off a little patronizing and a needle, none the less, at our inability to understand how public schools have such an advantage over private school in the recruiting process.  I do apologize for my quick reflex response but the point that public schools have a huge advantage when it comes to tuition costs always gets under my skin.  Anyone who has gone through the recruiting process, as several of us have just demonstrated rather quickly, (thanks for the back up WD and Sak,) know that the sticker price is nowhere near what many of the athletes pay to play for many private schools. It still might be more for the private school, (unless you pay out-of-state like we all did,) but it isn't nearly the difference that those on the private side of the debate would like us all to believe.  In our case, it was only a few thousand and not enough to have any effect on where he chose to play ball.  Maybe we can agree that we sufficiently debunked that point, at least.   ;)
Anyway, retagent, always enjoy having you drop by.  Now how about you doing it in person to my tailgate on Saturday?  Buy ya a beer or the best Bloody Mary you'll ever taste.  Not sure where we will be as my tailgating group kind of likes the new spot by the BB fields that we were relegated to at Homecoming so either there or back in our old spot on the boulevard next to the road that runs in front of the Perk.  Open door invite to anyone.  8-)

Hey, 413, that bloody mary offer is really tempting.  How do we find which tailgate is yours?

If it's going to be that damp on SatErday (hee-hee), a spiked beverage might just be the perfect call (kind of like an LB blitz .....)
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

You're more than welcome to come over.  We will be either along the boulevard next to the road in front of the stadium about 10 spots down from where you enter or along the side by BB fields at the end closest to the porta-pottie, not the pavilion.  Game day decision these days. ;)  Look for a large silver infinity SUV with Illinois plates.  Actually, a lot of Illinois plates as we hang with the Blanchards, (tan tent,) and Warhawk Dad and 17 when he can come.

You're welcome, Wisconsin.   :D ;D 8-)

Its hard enough for the Milwaukee Jorunal to write more than a paragraph about UWW on only the Sunday sports section.

The following is a behind the scenes story on the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel story on the Hawks' win over Franklin.

The story was written by Tom Haudricourt, one of the top major league baseball writers in the country.  Tom was at the UWSP at UWW game earlier this year as a fan.  He as "blown away" at the level of play and the college football "flavor" that afternoon back in October.  Tom said he wanted to come back to "cover" a Warhawk game as a member of the media.  Haudricourt went to his sports editor last week to tell him he was planning to attend the UWW-Franklin game and asked if he could write a story for indclusion into last Sunday's MJS.  Despite being somewhat mystified on what all the fuss is over small college football - the editor said "you bet."

it was the first football game Haudricourt worked since back in the late 1980s.  It was an assignment that the grizzled sports writer really enjoyed.  Another MJS sports columnist - Michael Hunt - has indicated the same feeling during his coverage of the last two Stagg Bowls.

As a media member myself, it is quite inspiring to have veteran sports journalists "buy into" the importance of UW-Whitewater here in the state of Wisconsin.

If you park down that first row, then I bet half that row will be IL plates Saturday: You, me, the Blanchards, WarhawkDad, sakman(?). Besides us, there's a few other IL plates i've noticed that park down that row as well.

Fibby Row we'll call it  :)  We can all get together and gripe about out-of-state tuition.  ;)

Isn't our out of state tuition actually less than Illinois in-state tuition?  I've always heard that was the case and one factor that made our recruiting Illinois athletes a little easier.

There was discussion not too long ago about establishing reciprosity with Illinois but I don't think it went anywhere.  I know that at a school like Whitewater with a relatively high number of Illinois students the financial hit would be significant.

Possibly, if you're looking at just DIII schools. B/c most (if not all) DIII schools in IL are private.

What about schools like Eastern, Western, Southern Illinois?

There are 12 public universities in Illinois... but none of them are D-III (all are either D-II or D-I).

That said, there are likely guys who could play D-III athletics who decide to hang 'em up and go to a school like U of I instead of continuing their careers.

When #65's decision was made to attend UWW, the total cost with out of state tuition, room and board basically was the same as EIU and WIU in state.  I do not know if it has changed.

I was going to make that point actually.  My daughter's in-state tuition/room and board to ISU in 2008 was roughly the same price as we paid for #33's out-of-state/room and board to UWW.  And tuition at all IL state schools has done nothing but go up since then with the increased lack of state funding.  That being said, there were a few CCIW schools that he could have played at for a few grand less than UWW.   ;)  I was told that a very long time ago there was once reciprocity between our two states but Illinois put the kibosh on it because our kids keep heading to Wiscy but we didn't get too many coming our way.
