I coach HS in FL and the rule is the 10 yards from the 45 to 45 is supposed to be the "buffer zone" where neither team is allowed during warm ups.  Unfortunately, that rule is only enforced by the referees who normally don't come out as early as the teams do.

It wasn't during warmups.  It happened after warmups had been completed and the teams had come back out of the locker rooms to start the game.  Salisbury had come out and gone to their sideline.  Then surged onto the field in mass as we were gathered on the hawk logo in the middle of the field.  The officiating crew physically moved them back towards their sideline.  You could see that some of their players were chirping and gesturing at ours.

Nice to meet you too 413.

In talking to players, Salisbury players were taunting and trash talking.  When I asked about reaction I was told that our players mostly laughed.  I guess they thought it would take UWW off their game.  Hmmmmm, didn't work, we scored on our first 3 possessions.

I think this falls under the category of act like you have been there before.

One of the OAC teams (Otterbein I think) tried to do that prior to a game with Mount a year or two ago.  Had a similar outcome as you describe above.

If anyone heard the post-game press conference after the UWW/SU game, I was wondering if you might have mirrored my thoughts as I did listening to this exchange. I thought it was interesting when Coppage was asked by one of the media members the type of play called on the momentum changer 80 yard run. While Coppage chuckled and said he couldn't actually tell the assembled media the terminology of the play (operational security IMO), he said it was "grown man football." I believe that was slang for man on man, power, straight ahead footbball. The feeling I got listening was that the answer was directed towards the wing-T type triple option run by Salisbury's offense of mis-direction, counters, pulling lineman, not exactly man on man, straight ahead power football. IMO, that kind of one-dimensional, offensive football has a difficult time succeeding in playoff football, especially against a team like UWW.

On another note, SU is/was the national leader in pass efficiency.  Something tells me that stat is very much overrated and needs to have an asterisk next to it. Just my opinion, but Griffin is really a running back playing QB - but that's what they need as long as they play that offense. The element of surprise once or twice in a game just doesn't outweigh having an ineffective overall passing game. Efficient, yet ineffective - I would prefer a little less efficient but effective.

Is there any game film out there of UWW that is available?  Just wondering what type of offense the tommies will be going up against.

Any news on which one of ESPN's stations is going to broadcast the game. I am on a recruiting trip and was wondering if that was announced yet espn,espn2,espnU, or on the web at ESPN3?

???

Have you watched a Stagg Bowl anyone of the last 6 years? It's the same offense. Names have been changed, but it's the same offense. It's a rather balanced offense overall.  ;)

Unfortunately the Stagg Bowl hasn't been all that interesting to the rest of D3 over the last 4 or 5 years. I imagine we'll get a steady dose of Mr. Coppage.

You can please some of the people some of the time...but...(thanks Honest Abe)

However, can't tell if the original question was just tongue in cheek or someone living with their head buried in the sand for the last 6 years.

babe, going to be on ESPN3 12:00 PM EST (what is that 11am Whitewater time?).

Do you have to select your service provider to watch live ESPN3 programming. I know you can't watch replay. I may be crap out of luck to watch  :'(  >:( unless one of the sports streaming websites will list it.

WarhawkDad, that time would make more sense if the Mount/Wesley game starts at 1200 est.  3.5 hours between start times would seem about right.

It was very nice meeting 413 for the first time....despite the crappy weather, we had a great time Saturday.

I didn't quite understand all the chirping the SU players were doing as UWW game out of the lockeroom. Seems to me they got a little in over their head in trying to trash talk to our boys...nice try  :P

Looking at the final four, I believe for the first time in awhile there isn't a clear-cut run-away favorite on who's going to make it to Salem this year. I think both Wesley and St. Thomas have a great chance to knock off the purple powers this weekend. The Warhawks are going to be in a dog fight with St. Thomas just like they were against Linfield (2009) and NCC (2010). It's going to one of those types of game....which is expected considering it is the semi finals.

Let the week-long worrying begin  :-[
