Congratulations Coach Sulages and all the players recognized for All-West Region honors.  That's one thing the coaches in Saturday's semi-final game have never managed to win. Coach Johnson from Bethel has won it twice since '07.

We often look at our regional coach of the year awards as a measure of outcome vs. expectations. St. Thomas and UW-Whitewater have lived up to expectations, as measured by the preseason poll.

Emma, there is a difference in embarassment about getting pinned by 140-pounders:

were you a 110 pounder or a 170 pounder? ;D

(Me?  I was a chubby 140 pounder in hs who was pinned by 120 pounders (in gym class; I never wrestled competitively).  In college, I didn't wrestle, directly, but as a 120 pound runner could 'leg-wrestle' (and beat) 200 pound fb players. 8-)  Pretty much the height of my athletic 'career'! :P)

Hmm, seeing as how nobody on this board would know any better- I was 110 pounds.
Not, I was 190-ish.  In my lame defense, our high school was one of the best in the state so I was probably wrestling state champions  :-[

That's my excuse too! 8-)

Since we all have a tendency to exaggerate our early exploits, good to see an honest man!  +k

(I sometimes tell the story of blocking the shot of a 6'8" opponent [I'm 5'8"] without bothering to include that in my race downcourt [ignoring a teammate under the basket] I blew the layup. :P  Or tell of the night, playing 1-on-1, that I scored 34 [in church league bball] against a starter on my hs team, forgetting to mention that he scored 50+. :-[  You're a better man than I. ;D)

At least you went to the right hoop.....can't say the same for myself :P

Here's the release from UW-Stevens Point...

http://athletics.uwsp.edu/mobile/index.aspx?story=3356

He says he plans to stay on and teach until the end of the academic year before pursuing other football opportunities. I also wonder what it means for his wife Sheila the very successful women's soccer coach.

From the rumblings I heard around the university is he was forced out by the new AD.

From what I've heard "forced out" sounds too strong, but "choosing not to adjust to a new boss" seems closer to accurate to me.

For anyone planning on going to the Whitewater game this weekend. There's a group of us going to Coyote's Bar and Grill at around 11:00 that morning. I'm bringing my computer along, so we can watch the Mount/Wesley game there before hand at the bar. They have WiFi there.

We'll just pregame there, eat some lunch, enjoy the Mount/Wesley game...then head over to the Perk before kickoff.

Anyone is welcome to join, obviously.

As a basketball player my wrestling experiences were limited.  But I was challenged by a close friend one time.  He was a tackle on the football team and wrestled at whatever wieght class there was just below heavyweight.  I was a 150 lb tight end who was listed at 175 lbs on the program.  Anyway my friend challenged me and foolishly I accepted.  Almost immediately in our showdown he picked me up and threw me down onto the mat.  However when he fell on top of me my knee got him right in the crotch.  Needless to say he was temporarily disabled and while he lay in agony on the mat I rolled over and pinned him.  We went on to become college roommates and I never let him forget it.   :D

PS: I was perhaps the slowest tight end in the history of high school football.  It was said that I ran hard but too long in the same spot.   My 40 was measured with a sun dial.

badgerwarhawk, great story.  nothing will stop a man quicker than a shot to the "boys".  I have to keep reminding the wrestlers to wear the jock to keep them were they belong since the referee doesnt stop the match cause you get hit there. +1 to you.

This is just like the week before NCC last year for me.  We all knew NCC was the team knocking on the "purple power" door and the week was filled with uncertainty.  So here we are again.  We've all known St. Thomas has been knocking at the door.

On another note, does anybody know if the UWW administration does anything in particular to encourage attendance at the games?  With ESPN coming I can't imagine they wouldn't want a big crowd for obvious reasons.  If it were up to me, I'd make sure every professor read a bulletin to every class every day of the week encouraging attendance at the game. I'd make sure every dining hall and the common areas in the student union had "ESPN is Coming to Town" posters.   Heck, I'd put fliers on car windshields and send updates through the university email system.  I'm rambling, but you get the point.
Is this game actually on tv or just on-line through ESPN3?

ESPN3 is only on on-line entity. It's not on regular television.

Badgerwarhawk....... ;D  These three sentences literally had me laughing out loud in my office at work. +K on the humor.  In highschool, I wrestled 105 though 119, grew 6 inches in height my freshman year in college and put on 50 lbs.   Those that know me realize that while I continued to grow it was mostly in weight  :o ;D.    While I don't have a story nearly as funny as some above, they certainly remind me of the comraderie on the different teams I was on while in highschool.   Nothing like teamsports to create wonderful friendships and memories.

For purple people in the Twin Cities, there's an over-the-air broadcast on WUCW TV, channel 23.

Take your laptop, connect it to your television. Most laptops and televisions today have HDMI ports. Sit back with your favorite beverages and snacks, and convince yourself the game is one regular television.  ;D

How about they give away tickets to students? That should guarantee a big turnout, right?   ::)    ;D

I doubt it. UWW is pretty much a suitcase college. Especially since it's the last weekend before finals, there's not enough students around to produce a big turnout (unlike Family Weekend). The well lubricated students would attend at least the first half, but most students will find indoor locations to watche the game.

Don't know. There are a few SJU types from that area who might. My guess ... doubtful.

Depending on your droid's carrier, the WatchESPN app might work.
