Hey guys,

I have a question about Gagliardi finalist Michael Zweifel.
I understand Zweifel is a Whitewater native. Does anyone know if he was recruited by the Warhawks coming out of high school?
The staff must have overlooked him somehow.  Wonder how in the world that could have happened................... ;) :D ;D

Oh fbf413 being coy...

If you recall 105, five years ago was the moment Brez was retiring and UWW was hiring a new football coach. Michael's dad, then longtime offensive coordinator of the Warhawks was one of the finalist for the job, and probably front runner to many fans that frequented these pages. As we all know, that position was eventually offered to and accepted by LL. The discussion that resulted was exhausting and extensive by EVERYONE. IMO, from the comments at the time of those close to the program, Father Zweifel was devastated that he didn't get the job that he long thought was probably his for the taking (as Brez's longtime assistant). I'm pretty certain, as a result, that sort of ended any interest younger Z had in Whitewater. If I remember correctly, fbf413 mentioned that members of the Warhawks had spirited battles in practices with a then high school Michael and they all knew he was a player. Long story short, he ended going to UW-River Falls, due in part to the fact it was his dad's alma mater and he was going to go back into coaching with the Falcon's under O'Grady, an old college teammate, I believe. The rest of the story is well documented.
Thanks BoBo- it seems to ring a bell now that you explained it.
We would have welcomed him at SJU  ;)

In hindsight, I'd imagine there are many schools who would have welcomed him.  ;)
He was a pretty good basketball player in high school, as well.

413 - I guess we will just have to agree to agree. ;) Seriously, I think sometimes my mind wanders.

BoBo - Prior to the last game, the SU boys were touting some behemoth on their offensive line. I made the statement. "The bigger they are, the harder they fall." Not that I was the originator of that pithy repost, but it wasn't that long ago that it was on this self same board. I actually thought it was an homage to me, when you posted it also. I guess my ego got in the way there.

LOL.  No problem.  I totally understand.  You know I have no trouble disagreeing with you when necessary but agreeing with you?  I may have to think about taking it all back.................  :o   :D ;D

And if Matt doesn't win the trophy, it will be almost as good ...............if it goes to Michael!   8-)

I was all ready to express how embarrassed I am for not being original in my post, when I decided to backtrack on this very board to find the post you speak of. Knowing that I am a very diligent reader of these pages - many times reading things once, twice, even three times - for the life of me, I didn't recall any SU poster making the claims of some behemoth O-liner, nor your very clever reply.

So, I went back to look again. To my consternation, I didn't see anything that remotely resembled what you said - not by a SU supporter nor you. We seem to have a real mystery on our hands. Two thoughts popped into my brain - neither of them very good - dementia, insanity. Knowing I am pretty much sharp as a tack (although I am getting up there in age), I was kind of getting concerned about you!! I reviewed your most recent posts, thinking it might lead to some resolution to this riddle. Then, shazam, there it was - you did make that reply about a behemoth o-liner (a 350 lb'er) - but it wasn't on this board and it wasn't about SU. It was on your home board (MIAC) and the original post from a St. John's Fisher fan. Phew!!  What a relief.  ;) I hardly ever read the MIAC board and certainly didn't around the time of your post. I hope it didn't hurt having your ego inflated and then deflated again!!  ;)

What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I have the same feeling we had a few years back when we flew to Oregon to face an excellent Linfield team......we all knew it was going to be a dfficult struggle to come out with a victory.....Feelings a little different for this one since I don't have a son playing but this appears to be similar in the difficult struggle department.....Will be at the Perk Saturday for only the second time this year tailgating across from the baseball field(somewhere thereabouts).....Our guys started it all with the first two trips to the Stagg Bowl and now one more game to go to the 7th in a row......seems pretty impossible when you think of it......Good luck Saturday to our beloved Warhawks and our man #33....Beat the Tommies, my alma mater.....Pound the Rock......

Warhawk fans, what do you think is a potential weakness of your team that could be exposed against St. Thomas?

Tommy fans, same question to you.

I think the Tommies #1 weakness is discipline.  They have taken a lot of penalties in the "dumb" variety this year and dumb penalties (that either kill a UST or extend a UWW drive) could be fatal in this one.  They also might be a little undisciplined in lane assignments and contain on D, given their ballhawking nature.  That could bite them on some well executed trickeration.  #2 weakness is receiving core depth.  If UWW can bottle up the run, UST will have to go to the air and I'm sure that Waldvogel will have a more difficult time getting open against UWW than anyone UST has played so far.

From the games I've followed, it seems like UST also comes out pretty slow in the first quarter.  I'd be concerned about spotting a team as good as Whitewater anything.

Penalties (but from the looks of it UST is more penalty stricken than the Hawks, which is hard to believe).

Other than that...I don't know. Maybe if our front 4 has a difficult time getting to the QB. That will give Tracy time to set his feet and make good throws.  :-\
