This will be the toughest game for either team this season. By far.
I guess the game against Oshkosh where the Ttians led or were tied for all but four minutes wasn't much of a test for the Warhawks?  ;D
Looks like the Oshkosh game was the tougher than today's game for Whitewater.... ;D

I was dead wrong...Oskosh beats this UST team.

02....please...quit honking your conference.  The UWO team that Mount played was not even a play-off team, let alone better than the team you played in the semi-finals.  Seriously?  That's disrespectful and just foolish.

Now your game went exactly how I thought it would go.  I think St. Thomas is probably a pretty good team, but until you have been there and know what it's like to play a UWW, you just don't get it.

UWW is a solid 7 or more favorite for next week's game.  Mount's defense is Stagg worthy, but the offense is so spotty you just don't know.

See you guys around......I am sure.   8-)

The UWW team that I thought was vulnerable did not play today. I agree with Sakman. This may have been the best all around game I've seen UWW play. Total control, very few mistakes, few penalties, and excellent execution, and some luck. If they play the same way next week, it could be a 35 - 7 score.

One thing I wondered about was the play calling of UST. The plays I saw work, at least to some extent against UWW this year, were the short 8 - 12 yard passes over the middle. With Tracy's ability to roll out, those types of passes along with a rollout, dragging a tight end, WR, or even a back out paralleling him, were what I expected to see. Those passes in the flat were doomed, and his accuracy on longer passes was suspect, at best. Also, their pass coverage in the first half was horrendous. I just got out of the hospital, and I could have stayed closer to the receivers than their DBs did. They tightened up some in the 2nd half, but it was too late.

And if I hear any reference to comparative scores, I'll take my bat and go home. >:(

Retagent, I agree with you that this was the best UWW has played this year- and maybe in a while.  Because UWW executed an excellent game plan so well, in all phases, it might make some think that this UST team was less than advertised.  I don't hold that opinion.  I think UST was a very good team and entirely deserving of their ranking.  This was one of those games where UST ran into a buzzsaw.  Tobin was a very tough back and their oline did provide some room.  UWW simply wasn't going to be denied today and that was evident from their first drive.  Blanchard was incredibly accurate under pressure and the oline did a heck of a job neutralizing a very strong defensive front.
The defense was lights out and the secondary played discliplined coverage like we haven't seen most of the year.

In years past, ANY Mount team getting 6 turnovers would = a 50 point win. Are they really having that many problems offensively or are they just playing possum?

BoBo,

Regarding the 6 Wesley turnovers:

2 - resulting in Mount TD's
2-  stopped Wesley drives inside the Raider 20
1-  stopped a last ditch long pass at the end of the game
1-  was a pick that the Mount player fumbled in an attempt extend the run

So, the defense was the key and the offense scored twice early in the second half as a result.

The Oshkosh team that UWW played in the season was a playoff team. It appeared they have gotten a lot better after their second game of the season when Mount played them.

bleedpurple needs to post a particular idea he had and shared during the week off of the main board. It was so dead on it was scary. It would be post of the year IMHO!!

What am I, chopped liver?  You boys doing all this PM'ing behind the scenes this week with inside info, etc., and I got none of them?  BP, you could have made my week much less stressful with that kind of info and, what turned out to be, an extremely right-on analysis.    And I can totally keep secrets, just ask BW!!!!   ;) ;D  JK'ing.....

A great, albeit, cold day at the Perk!  Had a blast as always with my favorite tailgating family!!  :-*  Loved seeing so many of my PP brethren as well.  Congrats to UST and their fans on a terrific team and season.  Such a great turnout of fans at the tailgate and in the stands.  Very much impressed with how well they traveled and their team played a hard fought, respectful battle. Don't see that program going anywhere but up the next few years!  Thought the WARHAWK faithful made a great showing as well!!!
A semi-final shut out!!!  You all know how happy that makes me!!!  DEFENSE was extremely disciplined when it came to some of the stuff the Tommies were throwing down.  Was that a double reverse/flea flicker I saw?  LOL  My prediction early in the week that the winner would be the team who has the most efficient, turnover free passing game turned out to be accurate and what a magnificent job Matt and the O-liners did!  Congrats to our Gags Trophy finalist, outstanding QB!!!  A couple of his passes with a Tommie in his face were absolutely clutch!  The Warhawks and their coaching staff had a perfect game plan and executed it to perfection.  Seven straight Stagg Bowl appearances...............unbelievable!  If you had told me back in 03 when our family came into the program, that it would be where it is today, I would have asked what you were smoking!  Simply amazing and DoubleO's reminder to us to appreciate what we have and to never take this run for granted is a great one.
Now, let's bring home another one, Boys!!!! Keep the winning streak alive!!!

Because he's done them so consistently this season, we sent one of our photographers to shoot the video and expedite it for the site today.

02 Warhawk-that was me you met at the Coyote Grill. It was nice to meet you and chat for a few minutes-congrats to your Warhawk team. If was also nice to meet a couple of guys in your group at the bar. I believe I met the owner of the Coyote Grill and the burgers might be the best in Lake County, Illinois, as well-outstanding.

As for the game, went the way I thought, UWW had too many big, fast players. After the second UST drive failed to produce points, got the feeling they would not challenge UWW. UST #40 on defense was fast and played a nice game.

That game was bad news for the MIAC-our teams have a ways to go beat UWW.

The atmosphere at the Perk was outstanding and the fans are very friendly.

Good luck to UWW on Friday.

retagent

I was a block away at Fat Jacks. Nice crowd there too. A couple of UST fans were there also.

emma - Can't disagree with a single word from your last post. I guess I shouldn't be surprised when UWW plays as they did, but I was. I can remember maybe two plays that could have turned the tide, at least temporarily. No turnovers. Few penalties.

413,

While I agree that Defense wins championships,  but the last 6 Stagg bowls were won by the offenses!

It is only Sunday and the Raiders are up to a 14 point underdog, maybe by Friday it will be 28 pts. I also
recall the pre-all purple Stagg Bowls where the Raiders were also heavy underdogs! :)

Thanks, I've enjoyed doing them and I hope WARHAWK fans and others have enjoyed listening.  But I would be remiss if I didn't give credit where credit is due.  I'm only the face and voice of the video.  In all but this last video my good friend GBMan has been the brains of the production.  He's the one with the smart phone who shoots the video and he's the one who, with Pat's help, stayed up into the wee hours of the morning and figured out how to email them despite my tendency to be overly verbose.  This last video was shot by D3football.com people who's names I didn't catch but to whom I am indebted.  I hope Pat continues the feature next year and if so I'll be doing more.

I don't buy any of this underdog stuff. Like I said in a prior post, these games are always too competitive to start this type of dialogue.
