sounds about right to me ,

My buddy in Luaghlin , NV.  has the current line at  UWW  - 16.5  :)

warm up the bratzzzz..

Mt was favored by something like 21 in 2007. These teams match up differently and present each other challenges that don't translate well to point picking.

I was thinking exactly the same the thing. That's why I'm not comforted that UWW is such favorites.

Then again, nothing will comfort me between now and Friday.

Shock of the year there!  ;D

I think there is often a confusion of terms when it comes to the word "favorite". The meaning of the word depends on the perspective and how it is being used.

A favorite from a bookmaker's perspective is the team that is giving points to the other team when that game is offered to the public for betting purposes. The bookmaker's goal in setting the favorite and the line is strictly to garner 50% of the betting public to take each side. In the strictest sense, it isn't even a judgement of who is better as much as it is a matter of the bookmaker's evaluation of the betting public's opinion. (I do believe lines are sometimes shaded a bit from time to time which I've suspected the bookmaker has an opinion and wants to lure the public to the other side. But I think that is the exception).

A more generic term of favorite is simply which team most people would say are going to win if asked.  Again, it is perception of the teams, not necessarily the reality of the strength of each team or an accurate reflection of how the teams actually match up.

That's a lot of words, all which to say, the "pointspread" means nothing in terms of the game. It's a reflection of perception and does not give either team a "better chance" of winning.

so instead of "favorites", would "favored" be a better word to use?

Do me a "favor" 02. Take a valium, or at least a few stiff drinks between now and Friday. I'm gonna do a Broadway Joe on you, and Guarantee a Victory.

No wonder we ended so soon, no one worthy of AFCA. In fact, no one west of Brownwood,Texas, was worthy.

That's because, as I was told numerous times in the parking lot, it was, " the best team LK ever had."   ;) :D ;D

Actually, I wasn't addressing either you are Emma with my "favorite" diatribe. I was simply reinforcing what most have already said: Who is favored and by how much will not mean a thing on Saturday.

I think Retagent has laid out a great game plan for you this week. Now it's up to you to execute it!  ;)

1997 was the best team LK ever had.  #1 offense.  #1 defense.

Whoever you were talking to was already drunk.   ;)

I don't know much about the long history of Mt, but I do recall some of that 2007 team.  Micheli, Garcon and Kmick were on the offense- can't imagine many teams had a more potent offense than that.  I think I remember the D was giving up around 4 points a game and the O was scoring in the area of 50 a game.  I do remember some talking about that team being the best, or one of the best ever.

Either way, after watching the replay of Mt vs Wesley, I see a very fast and physical Mt team with a bunch of guys that can make plays.  Their corner- #10, is a tremendous cover corner and tackler- especially for his size.  UWW will need a repeat of their St. Thomas execution.  There is such a difference in the way UWW plays offense in comparison to Wesley and Mt.- and thankfully so.  UWW's offensive style typically forces the opponent to complete longer drives, increasing the chances for mistakes by the offense.  IMO the key will be for the UWW secondary to eliminate the long pass play again.  Mt will most likely get their yards underneath given all the skill players they have, but if UWW can again tackle well-it may result in sputtering drives.

The guy claimed to be a relative of LK's so he was probably a liar, too.   ;)  In all seriousness, that statement was repeated by many sources on here, in the media, etc.  And it is really hard to believe that there was an Mount offense better than the one with the , "All time leading rusher at any level," and a future NFL wide receiver.   :o
