One of my favorite (NOT) journalists, ESPN's Gregg Easterbrook and his Tuesday Morning Quarterback column had this in this week (surprised no one mentioned it yet):

"Obscure College Score of the Week: Mount Union 28, Wesley 21 (Division III semifinal). Located in Dover, Del., Wesley College offers a major in "drama and theater." They're different?

Bonus College Score: Wisconsin Whitewater 20, St. Thomas 0 (Division III semifinal). Located in St. Paul, Minn., the University of St. Thomas lists 45 people on its Board of Trustees. Perhaps they meet at the basketball arena!

These two games set up yet another rematch of Mount Union versus Wisconsin Whitewater in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. These two schools have, between them, won eight of the past 10 Division III football titles."

At least he made fun of Wesley and St. Thomas this time.   ;)

I would wish all my UWW "frenemies" good luck, but we all know you don't need it.   ;)

Reading through the posts the last few days on here, it hit me that UWW has now reached the pinnacle with regards to its fans, students, detractors, etc...

When some of the primary topic of conversations are attendance, win streaks, "best team ever", and the majority of D-III fans are picking UWW to win....you have truly reached the most lofty of perches.

Here's hoping that the UWW offense scores a TON of points......as long as it's one less than Mount.   8-)

Enjoy the game everyone.......we are very lucky to get to experience this amazing rivalry.

Truer words were never spoken, SS!  + karma.  It is a great honor, indeed, to be considered a rival of the Mount Union Purple Raiders!   Win or lose, both programs and fans are blessed!
"Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!"  Dennis Miller

+k from me.  The run is a blessing and I hope all fans of both teams (and, especially the teams themselves!), are enjoying this ride immensely.  I have come all the way to the point of rooting for Mount on the other side of the bracket.  While I know many Mount fans are very tired of UW-W, Mount Union is all we know in Salem!  ;)

bp, I read on the triple take, you said the no turnover streak stood at 7 games, isn't it 8 games now? That new stat program being used on the warhawk website is very unfriendly to use IMO. I am completely frustrated trying to figure the blasted thing out.  :-[

The Hawks have played 7 games since Oshkosh, where they turned the ball over twice.  They have not turned it over since.  I sent an email to Tom (SID) regarding the new format. I didn't complain per se, but I did indicate I could not tell how to access "play by play".  I do much prefer the other format. Not sure what would have prompted the switch.

OK, 7 it is.  I've had the same problem with play-by-play - still haven't found it.

I usually get it from the boxscore that I get through the d3football.com site.

Obscure "Journalist" of the millenium - Greg Easterbrook.

Very nice headline article in the Kenosha News this morning on Logan Allemond. (He's a Kenosha Tremper grad - for those unfamiliar.)

I doubt that Mount fans are anywhere near the "tiredness factor" of all fans other than UWW and UMU.

From the schedule page there's a "Box Score" link. Once you're in the box score there's a tab for "Play-by-Play"

My prediction: 34-14, I really am thinking UMU's offense isn't up to the task but that their defense is.

In other news: I work 4-9  >:(  So I have it all ready on the DVR so as soon as I get home I can watch it. And during that time I'll have my fingers in my ears going "la la la, nothing is happening, la la la"  ;)

GOOD LUCK WARHAWKS!

Here's a little Gagliardi trivia:  As most all on this board know, Michael Zweifel attended Whitewater High School.  And many would remember that Justin Beaver attended Palmyra-Eagle High School, located just 7-8 miles down the road from Whitewater, a couple of years earlier.  Both Justin and Michael played for the same head coach!  Who is he (answer below)?  The next question to pose then for discussion is, can any other high school football coach make the claim that he has coached two players of the year?  Answer:  Doug Parker, current principal at Whitewater High School.

UMU's defense is up to the task, but they are going to give up 34 points?  They gave up 500 yards on offense vs. Wesley but only 21 points.

???

If UWW wins by 2 TDs it won't be 34-14, more like 21-7.  But I am predicting a 20-17 victory for the Raiders.  :)

I have been watching ESPN2 all day and the ticker at the bottom for NCAAF has the Div.1 FCS semi-finals with times - but nothing on the game tonight. Thanks for nothing ESPN. Even if you are not a fan of either team make it a D3 football event. Remember that one day your team will be in the Stagg and you will want networks to cover it - lets give them some ratings so that can happen. If you don't watch the game thats fine - just turn it on. Maybe if the ratings are decent ESPN will stop moving the game to friday (a TV dead zone!) or moving to a smaller ESPN network so they can show some damn Poker tournament! Even if you not a fan of the teams playing - we are all fans of DIII football!

Hey there, Whitewater faithful!  I think this is the least I've posted over here the past 7 years but a new job has limited my available time to barely keeping up with the OAC Board.  I just wanted to wander over and offer my greetings and hopes for an intense, well-played, injury free game.  Forgive me if I don't join you in hoping that Whitewater wins, but I'm faithful to my shade of purple through and through!  Best of luck tonight, I just hope Mount Union has a little more.  It's been a great rivalry, and I'm looking forward to watching the rubber match tonight.

And a special hope for safe travels for all who are making their way to and from Salem this weekend!
