Not ready for the end yet, so...
A shout-out to some other guys worth mentioning for player of the game:
1.  Punter- Rosholt
2.  Placekicker- Kindler
3.  OLB- Cortez (he was involved on many big plays- what a hitter for any size)
4.  OLB- Wismer (also involved on some big plays)
5.  Corner- Timm (not only a cover guy- but solid tackling)
6.  Safety- Wenkman (solid safety coverage and solid tackling)
7.  Rest of the D Line- Lots of rotation- they played hard

First half offense- UWW moved the ball pretty well: 10 play, 6 play, 8 play and 11 play drives.  Give a lot of credit to the ability of Mt's defensive players.  A couple penalties and missed assignments hurt the scoring drives.  The Mt D didn't blitz much in the first half, but they are super fast- holes open and close in a blink.

When the game was coming to a close, I leaned over to my 18 year old daughter and said, "An offensive player will not win the MVP, it will be a defensive player and it will be either Cortez or Louissant for the big hit and strip of the ball for the fumble."   But Emma is right, there were alot of excellent defensive plays and the special teams plays, especially the punting of Rosholt was huge.

Cortez was the guy on my MVP ballot.

That reminds me, 17, with all my touting of the DEFENSE, I have yet to give much deserved credit to the special teams, specifically the kicking game.  It, too, was just outstanding and was so crucial to helping the DEFENSE with the all important field position! Rosholt and Kindler were stellar!

In watching Minnett, he was almost unblockable at times.  Mount would try to double him, and the second lineman wouldn't even get back in time to get a hat on him.  The dude has one WICKED spin move.

To be honest, I think the constant #1 factor that allowed UWW to win the game was that voodoo priest that is their punter.  He was beyond fabulous in the biggest game of the year.  Mount's punter was.....ummm.......well.....I guess on the positive side at least he didn't have one blocked.  He has been very up and down all year.

It will be interesting to see how UWW reloads in the offensive backfield.  Mount has suffered the last two years without a dominant RB.  I think Murray filled that role this year, and should have a monster senior season.  He has finally learned to finish runs.

I agree with you on that...he was amazing.

I think all of us UWW fans are anxious to see how UWW's backfield will be 2012. That might be the single biggest area of concern for next year's team. Who knows, maybe a true freshman will appear like Coppage did when Beaver graduated. Wishfull thinking, I know.  :)

413- This year, In Fact, Defense did win the championship.
If there was a "Last Two Years Aggregate Stagg Bowl MVP" I'd give it to Rosholt.  Two straight years his punting was unreal.
"Last Three Years Aggregate MVP" to Levell.

Kick coverage, which had some of us concerned in the regular season, was great.

Kindler- In two years:  3 for 3 on field goals and 5 for 5 on extra points (there is so much to say about this).

02, this guy is going to turn some heads - his name is Byron Stanford from the Second City, he'll wear #23 in your program...he's going to have an outstanding soph season. Just you wait and see...that is my prediction!!  ;)

02 I know you said anxious and not worried.  But just in case some may be worried, I'm going to go Bleedpurple here and say I'm not worried at all about running back for UWW.  Now that #33 is gone, IMO there WILL be freshman that come in that may not have before.  There are a couple kids on the roster now (or were) that wouldn't surprise me if they blossomed.

Good point about FG kicking in the Stagg Bowl the last two years. Before Kindler, even the legendary Jeff Schebler struggled at times in Salem.

I hope you guys are right. If that's the case, and we get strong QB play out of Brekke, then we should get back to the Stagg Bowl again. Especially with who we have returning on defense.

Oh, and let me be the first to wish all my PP posse a very Merry Christmas and prosperous, safe, and joyous New Year. My wife just finished packing our bags, my daughter's last day before winter break was yesterday (wednesday) and our flight to our little island paradise is later this AM (thursday). Time for a couple hours of shut-eye. We'll be gone for about a month. I hope everyone's been real good and Santa brings you something nice...enjoy!!  :)  Can't wait for my first mango mai tai on the beach...life doesn't get any better than this!!

Merry Christmas to all and to all, a good night!!

I think it's unrealistic to expect we'll get another back who'll break Coppage's rushing records the way that Coppage broke Beaver's records.  It was incredible that we got two backs like these guys back to back to begin with.  But I really don't worry about the running back position for a couple of reasons.  #1 and foremost is the offensive line.  We've got a solid, experienced group returning and we've got good position coaches working with them.  They'll be decent again next year.  #2 is our history of producing running backs.  Admittedly Beaver and Coppage were above the norm but the fact is that we pretty much always have a solid running game.  I can't remember the last team we've fielded that didn't.  Put the group of running backs returning with the offensive line and we should be able to run the ball.

Merry Christmas to you and your family Bobo.  Safe travels.  Good idea not giving up the name of that little island paradise- I had some vacation days left I'm trying to use.   ;D
