BoBo, 413, 02, bleedpurple, BadgerWarhawk, Emma, other UWW supporters,

IF there was a poll on which UWW RB was the best, how would the poll be out of say 100 pollsters, Beaver or Coppage? And who would come in third? :)

I don't know how the Coppage/Beaver poll would turn out.  It would probably be close though.  For third I'll toss out 3 names in no particular order.

Chad Wurth
John Damato
Travis Talton

I would agree with this...

I wish the poll question had a third choice - equal.

I wish the poll question hadn't been deleted. Why?

Ditto!   BUT, I have no knowledge of WARHAWK football before 2002 so I defer to the likes of BW and others much more familiar with its history.  Wurth was the record breaker before Beaver came along though, right?  He was a hell of a RB!

Wurth played for the Hawks during my years at Whitewater.....He was fun to watch. Oddly enough he was the team's kicker as well. Not too many times do you see a person score a touchdown, then kick his own exta point.

Only in DIII ;D

As a write-in candidate on the poll I submit Booker Stanley  ;)

Did I delete it?  :-[  All I thought I did was click on view results tab. If that deleted it, I didn't intend to do it. If if matters, Beaver was leading 2 votes to 1 at the time. Furthermore, I didn't think I had the ability or power to delete a poll created by someone else in the first place.

Please, someone, delete that poll question on the WIAC pickem page...it's been there going on 2 or 3 years now!!  There is no delete button.

Add a couple more to that list, Spencer Johnson and George Rainey.  I can only hypothesize what one or more of these guys might've accomplished with the offensive lines Beaver and Coppage had working in the trenches in front of them. They might be thought of in the same way or nearly the same way.

I wish the poll question had a third choice - equal. IMO, picking one over the other can't be done - I think it's a dead heat in a photo finish.

Raider 68, would Kmic be the favorite in a similar poll among Mount fans?

BoBo,

If we conducted a similiar poll for the Raiders, My guess would be as follows:

1. Nate Kmic
2. Chuck Moore
3. Dan Pugh
4. Jeremy Murray (still playing)

Kmic is the clear No. 1, but some may think Pugh gets the nod over Moore, but they played
together for 1 or 2 years :)

As a freshman Justin Beaver played behind Burns who was sophomore (I think).  Had Burns decided to play his last two years it's very likely that Beaver's numbers wouldn't look anything like they do.  I'm sure Beaver would have seen plenty of playing time but it's very possible that it would have been behind Burns.

Conversely had Burns not been on the team it's also very likely Beaver's numbers would have been higher than they are.  As a freshman Beaver was the second back behind Burns and only had 50 or so carries for roughly 350 yards.  Burns had something like 280 carries and was just shy of 1500 yards.

Coppage was the feature back for all four years of his WARHAWK career.  Which begs the question of whether he would have broken Beaver's rushing record had Beaver been the feature back for all four years of his WARHAWK career.

I still wouldn't want to chose between the two.  ;D

I crunched some hypothetical numbers. Considering Beaver's high per-carry average in 2004. Had Justin, if healthy, gained 1500 yards as a freshman his career total would have been 7,744 yards. Coppage ended up with 7,795 career rushing yards. (note: Coppage missed 4 games in his career due to injury. That said, the two record-setting running backs numbers were amazingly similar. The biggest difference was Coppage's 109 carrer touchdowns. Beaver is No. 2 all-time in the UWW record book with 44 touchdowns.

Good point...that's an amazing stat.  Coppage had Beaver's career TD record broke before he finished his second year. He had 35 his sophomore year alone!!
