Chad Wurth and Colin Burns......
Colin, now he was a power back...................and he still calls me mom!   ;) :D ;D

As a freshman Justin Beaver played behind Burns who was sophomore (I think).  Had Burns decided to play his last two years it's very likely that Beaver's numbers wouldn't look anything like they do.  I'm sure Beaver would have seen plenty of playing time but it's very possible that it would have been behind Burns.

Conversely had Burns not been on the team it's also very likely Beaver's numbers would have been higher than they are.  As a freshman Beaver was the second back behind Burns and only had 50 or so carries for roughly 350 yards.  Burns had something like 280 carries and was just shy of 1500 yards.

Coppage was the feature back for all four years of his WARHAWK career.  Which begs the question of whether he would have broken Beaver's rushing record had Beaver been the feature back for all four years of his WARHAWK career.

I still wouldn't want to chose between the two.  ;D
I don't think Colin or his family would mind my updating you on his life since leaving UWW.  Colin was forced to make a very tough choice leaving football behind after multiple concussions he sustained during the 04 season.  He went to school in Texas, Colorado and had stints with UW and University of Michigan where he continued his education, first as an undergrad and then as a GA Strength and Conditioning Coach.  While in Colorado, he trained at the Olympic Training Center for the the 2008 US Judo team, his second love.  Unfortunately, after being ranked nationally in his weight class as high as 6 or 7, I believe, (top 4 make team,) he injured his elbow and had to have Tommy John surgery on it about 6 months before the Olympic team was chosen and he just did not have enough time to make it back after rehab.  He now competes nationally at weight lifting.  A terrific young man from a great family.  We remain close to all of them, one of many gifts I have received as a member of the WARHAWK football program.

Thanks for the update 413.

Burns has sure had some tough breaks with injuries interfering with his athletic endeavors.

UW-Whitewater AMA earns several awards including international chapter of the year
"Many know about the success UW-Whitewater athletic programs have had this year.
However, the UW-Whitewater chapter of the American Marketing Association was named the International Chapter of the Year at the international collegiate conference in New Orleans March 22-24."

Olympic Weightlifting or Powerlifting?
I know he recently earned a bronze medal at USA Weightlifting Nationals in the Snatch and took 5th overall the first part of March.  The 2012 USA Weightlifting Olympic Team Trials was held in conjunction with the USA Weightlifting National Championships in Columbus, Ohio.  I don't know what that means, if anything, regarding the Olympics though.  Guess I need to check in with his mother.   ;)

UWW gets a little love from Fox Sports on the coverage of Opening Day at Miller Park between the Brewers and Cardinals. They were talking about the success (Brewers, Packers, UW football & basketball, Marquette basketball) Wisconsin sports teams had in the past year. They finished up with UWW football and basketball.   ;)

That is awesome and about time that we were added to the list!! I listen to a lot of Chicago sports talk radio, especially my fav, Waddle and Silvy on ESPN 1000.  They occasionally refer to the success of all the Wisconsin teams since the Pack won the Super Bowl and my husband always says, "you have to call them and let them know that they are missing the WARHAWKS on that list!"    ;)

Thanks Bobo. I'm thinking UWW has the coolest mascot/emblem of them all though.

Correct, the USA Weightlifting National Championships were held in conjunction with 2012 Arnold Classic held each year in Columbus, OH. 1st place overall in each weight class makes the Olypmic Team. Cool to see a former athlete make the switch to a different sport (twice) and be successful.
