UWRF's Joel Yogerst ranked #7 on Mel Kiper's top 10 list of fullbacks heading into the NFL draft.

Haven't heard of this guy being a potential draftee/free agent until now...more details on him?

CBS.com doesn't have him listed in the top 15 fullback prospects on their chart. Only three fullbacks shown to be in the draftable or free agent range, including Bradie Ewing of UW as number 3. I'm sure more will be drafted/signed as FA's, but, IMO, it's probably going to be a real uphill climb. The only DIII prospect I saw was a corner out of Albion (Greenwood, I think) - 7th round/FA range, if I recall correctly. I remember him more in the playoff game vs UWW.  I have no pro personnel skills, but he didn't distinguish himself as a possible NFL prospect, IMO.  Hard for anyone to stand out when you lose 59-0!!  ;)

Looks like he's being discussed on WSN's Message Board. He's a possible 6-7 rounder, according to a post.

I'm kind of starting to get the itch for college football already. Too bad it's still five months away.

[I don't think Colin or his family would mind my updating you on his life since leaving UWW.  Colin was forced to make a very tough choice leaving football behind after multiple concussions he sustained during the 04 season.  He went to school in Texas, Colorado and had stints with UW and University of Michigan where he continued his education, first as an undergrad and then as a GA Strength and Conditioning Coach.  While in Colorado, he trained at the Olympic Training Center for the the 2008 US Judo team, his second love.  Unfortunately, after being ranked nationally in his weight class as high as 6 or 7, I believe, (top 4 make team,) he injured his elbow and had to have Tommy John surgery on it about 6 months before the Olympic team was chosen and he just did not have enough time to make it back after rehab.  He now competes nationally at weight lifting.  A terrific young man from a great family.  We remain close to all of them, one of many gifts I have received as a member of the WARHAWK football program.

Wow! I'm impressed that he competes nationally at weight lifting after Tommy John Surgery. I tore my ulnar collateral ligament a few years ago and was a candidate for TJS. My orthopaedist strongly discourages me from lifting too much weight and avoiding activites that put a lot of stress on the elbow.

IMO, the fullback position is a dying breed and in a few years will be a thing of the past. If you look at those prospect lists you will discover that a player listed as a college fullback isn't even projected to be drafted until the 6th or 7th round, most not at all.

If you placed all the players Mel Kiper (or any of those other guys making a living doing that kind of work) mentions as possible 6-7 round draft picks elbow-to-elbow, the list would probably go on for 20+ rounds. They list a zillion guys so they can come back and pat themselves on the back when one or two diamonds-in-the-rough make an opening day roster or shows some promise.

02 - the schmuck on the WSN message board making that comment is probably his brother or worse yet, his agent. It's been known to happen a few times.  ;)  I really doubt it comes with much merit.  I don't think the young man from UWRF has the size to be an NFL FB - in fact, there are plenty of successful RB's that are much bigger with speed. I'd love to see him get a chance, but I'd be really surprised if he got signed.

You can! All you have to do is stop at the bowling alley in Whitewater and ask the guy at the counter for a size 10 1/2.

And yet they still didn't win much over the past 20 years....   ;D

http://www.uwlathletics.com/news/2012/4/11/GEN_0411125333.aspx

Wow, this was shocking to read (the article is also up in D3football.com's homepage). It seems that UWL will be on probation for two years, but as the article reads, being on probation isn't going to directly affect any athletic programs during that time frame. Unless there's more to the probation than what's reported here.

Embarrassing as this is for UWL, I'm glad they are fully cooperating with the NCAA and taking responsibility for their actions. However, it's a difficult situation for the relatively new AD, Josh Whitman. Makes you wonder if the previous AD had any knowledge of this before Josh took over. But I doubt it.

badgerwarhawk

I suspect they all had knowledge of how the process was being conducted but no one had knowledge that it was in violation of NCAA rules.  Obviously those who should have been in the know weren't in the know.  I thought all of our schools had someone who functioned as a compliance officer.

Pat, just what exactly does "probation" mean?  Would it prohibit their athletic program from participating in the post season?

That would be very uncomfortable...I wear 13 1/2!!   ;)  I bet someone who bowls as much as bw, has his own shoes anyway.

It's the athletic department's job to make sure the ENTIRE campus complies to NCAA rules. UWL seems to asserting that "we didn't know what the financial aid/scholarship office was doing". That doesn't fly for the NCAA. It's the athletic deaprtment's job to make sure the financial aid/scholarship office knows and follows NCAA rules.

Probation is a warning period. They have steps they have to take as far as education and correcting problems, but there's no "on the field" penalty. If they were to committ another major violation in their two-year probation period, then the defecation would strike the rotating oscillator.
