Matt Turk averaged 36.3 yards punting collegiately.  That ranks sixth all time in the WARHAWKS record book.  Kris Rosholt averaged 37.5 yards which ranks third.

To date Matt Turk has played for 6 different NFL franchises and 16 years in the NFL.  He has been a three time pro bowl selection and a three time all pro selection.

Sometimes there is more to it than the numbers.

With Whitewater now known as Titletown Wisconsin may I should dust off my microphone, keep the same Titletown Report name and do a statewide show on Warhawk football this coming season???  I'm  just saying!

I know you're being a little facetious, but I think the Packers have slapped a trademark on the word Titletown. I wouldn't want you to butt heads with any of those NFL lawyers. They can be nasty. :)

When the Goetz Radio Network aired it's Titletown Report back in 1996 it chose the name Titletown Report because "titletown" was not copywrited at the time.  Not sure of its current status.

I thought Coppage was faster- at least in pads.

I was thinking the same thing - could all those guys unable to catch him really be that much slower?  That number just doesn't seem right.

An amazing career.
That schoolyard punter comment just irks me. It's an insult to Chris and the staff.  UWW had a field goal kicker that broke the all time record as well as some good punters. There had to be some coaching involved that would have elevated their abilities to better than schoolyard.

Right. Think of the Mt Union safeties trying twice to catch him in 2010.
I'm also surprised he only got 10 reps on the bench press- he looks stronger too.
He's an enigma.

Totally, which is why I go back to my personal opinion regarding the, "who's the better RB," question. I take Beaver. He was the total package.

IMO, some of those NFL-types, when quoted anonymously, have a tendency to make some goofy comments that are just made for newspapers to print.  What exactly do you think they mean by schoolyard punter? Inconsistant for the most part?

Nice writeup on WARHAWK athletics: http://www.gazettextra.com/news/2012/apr/14/uw-whitewater-teachers-help-bring-trophies/
This article highlights a common thread among all these championships and UWW's hugely successful athletic programs.  Dr. Paul Plinske!! I texted him right after the gymnastics team won it all, congratulating him on the 3 varsity national championships and an outstanding job well done!  I have worried for a few years now that another program will swop in and steal him away.  Let's be honest, coaches come and go but this AD, he maybe irreplaceable.    ;)

I don't what he meant by it but the feeling I got was he was referring to technique. Time it takes to catch the ball, get the ball off and the form he uses doing it. No doubt it's all important. But I am a schoolyard punter- not Rosholt. Any punter that can put the ball high and inside the 20 wout getting it blocked is much more than schoolyard.

413,

My vote (if I had one) would also go to J. Beaver who was not a 4 year starter like Coppage. In either case they were both great players for the Warhawks! :)

This is kind of off subject, but anyways....have you seen the throwback jersey the Steelers will be wearing this year to celebrate the teams 80th anniversary.  Considering all the horrendous (IMHO) stuff coming out of Washington County, Oregon, I actually think the 1934 look is pretty cool, even if Nike made it.  Take a look for yourself HERE.  At least it's eye-popping!!  ;)

It's also hideous.

This is why they didn't have color TV in 1934. They could have. They just chose not to.

Is he hurt? 31.5" vert, 10 bench reps, 9-0 broad jump, 4.65 40...he seemed much quicker when I watched him play and explosive...which is why I'm so surprised about the broad jump and vertical.

Good example of how the numbers don't always mean a great player, and vice versa. He is a great RB, that is what counts.

If I had to guess, I would say Mr. Coppage hasn't been training that hard since the Stagg Bowl.  These days there is all kinds of combine/testing specific training to get you ready for those exact measurables.

Maybe he decided to go to the pro day at the last minute?  As everyone else, after watching him play the last four years, I would have bet his measurables would have been much better.
