Matt Blanchard gets some props for his performance at the Chicago Bears mini-camp this week in the article on Alshon Jeffery.

I'd pay serious greenbacks to have Blanchard "mic'd" up for this rookie camp.
Maybe he's explaining to Jeffrey how Rusch would have run the route w greater precision.

How cool is that, wearing an NFL helmet, a Chicago Bear helmet with your name on it!   Jeffrey is lucky he had someone like Matt throwing to him!

The day started with the great news that Matt Blanchard was signed by the Chicago Bears following rookie minicamp over the weekend.

Meanwhile the Green Bay Packers have just announced that they have signed five tryout players.  According to packers.com, the Green Bay Packers signed T Shea Allard, WR Jarrett Boykin, G Grant Cook, WR Curenski Gilleylen and CB Otis Merrill, and waived T Chris Campbell.

The three players out of the WIAC: Kris Rosholt, P, UW-Whitewater, Casey Casper, LS, UW-Whitewater, Taylor Butzler, OL, UW-Stout along with Michael Zweifel, WR, Dubuque (Whitewater native) were not signed after particpating in this past weekend's rookie orientation camp the Hutson Center in Green Bay.

Frankly speaking, as a punter and long snapper, just how much "practice" were those two (esp. Rosholt) allowed to perform during 3 practices inside the Hutson Center - I mean, can they even punt in there considering the height of the roof? I guess they bring them in for future reasons, i.e. in case a need arises.  It's like in Seattle - they bring in 2 undrafted QB's and Russell Wilson for their mini-camp, then proceed to give 100% of the snaps during their 3 practices to Wilson - every snap, every hand-off, every throw - to Wilson. What were those other 2 guys thinking their chances were after 1, 2 or 3 practices, just standing around with their name taped to the front of their NFL helmet.  Hopefully, they got a picture of themself standing behind or next to Russell Wilson in the Seattle Times to show to their future wives or grand kids. The NFL is a mean business.

I was beginning to think footballfan413 would make a good agent, until I read AndOne's post...that was impressive!!

Let's hope that the WIAC guys and Zweifel made enough of an impression to get opportunities with other NFL teams yet this year.  It seems like there are always punters being replaced during the season. It takes some luck sometimes to get a break, maybe it happens for these guys.

Do you think that with  Lee Brekke being announced as 2012 UWW Captain, it's a signal that they are killing two birds with one stone (the 2nd being they have their new starting QB)?  ;)

Interesting, my guess wouldn't have been him for team captain...but I think the QB job was his all along after Blanchard graduated. This was the moment Brekke has been waiting for, hopefully he can take advantage of it.

Interesting indeed. These captain announcements can be bittersweet I'm sure, great news for those selected and disappointing for those not.
I've no inside info and wish both captains great success in leading the team.

emma, I believe the captains are objectively "chosen" in a vote of their teammates (not subjectively "selected"), and maybe coaches (voice, bw - is that how it goes?) You know how it is when the tribe speaks...?  ;)

I don't know why?  Brekke is a good pick.  He's a leader and he's earned the respect of the staff and his teammates by the way he's handled himself these past couple of years.  He'll do a great job and there won't be any drop off of leadership.

Hey guys, St. Thomas fan here.  Any news on Levell Coppage?  I remember hearing about him when I watched the semifinal game last December.  Just wondering if he's signed with anybody yet.  Thanks.

Team captains are selected by the team.

Nothing happening for Coppage.
