It takes a lot for longtime WBIZ (Eau Claire) sports announcer Mike Sullivan to be silenced. It happened yesterday for the "Dean" of WIAC play-by-play announcers when the station's antenna went down in heavy wind.

The strong winds in Eau Claire took down a 200 foot tall radio tower.  It happened at the Clear Channel Radio studios on Cameron Street. The tower, which serves WBIZ a.m. 1400, fell over around 4:30 Thursday afternoon.
Just moments before power went out knocking all seven radio stations in the building off the air.

Sully has been  on the job at the Eau Claire radio station since 1974.

It's been a great year for the athletic programs at UW-WHITEWATER and with the points we'll get for baseball and track I expect we'll make a pretty good showing in the national all sports award (who's name is completely escaping me at this moment)  Sear's Director's Cup ??????

Emma, I didn't take your comments to imply any disrespect to either UMU or the staff.  If that's the tone of my response it was unintentional.

I guess this was likely the second tallest tower to come down in the last few days.  Watch here!!

A great year for UWW and I continue to notice more and more UWW window stickers in cars.

No worries- your tone was fine.  I was just practicing some risk management.

A little off topic, but I thought interesting nevertheless.

An old friend of a few WIAC schools, Azuza Pacific, is transitioning to DII like number of their NAIA partners have done in the past couple years. I was looking at their upcoming schedule and found it unique. It puts the WIAC schedule of playing 1 school, two times a season in perspective. I think they are the only DII football-playing school in California.  As a result, they have elected, as has their new conference they have joined (the GNAC has 6 members), to play the other 5 teams twice - that's right, the 11 game regular season has 6 opponents - all the conference games are a home & home series. This must be some kind of record. Can anyone remember anybody doing anything close to this? One home and home is uncomfortable enough; I can't imagine doing it 5 times in one season!!  :-\

Humboldt St is the 2nd and I look for Menlo to eventually be the 3rd....

What's the news with the transfers coming to UW-W? Heard it through the wire and someone told me about the site and to look here, so I joined up.

badgerwarhawk

You may be disappointed.  We don't really talk too much about transfers or recruits until they've enrolled at the university and have started practicing. That's the point at which you can say with certainty that they're in the program.

Yeah I figured recruits would be more iffy per say because they can change decisions on a whim. Just curious if anyone had heard anything about potential transfers or where from.

Welcome to the site 09.  I look forward to your participation.  As BW said, we don't say a lot on this site about who we hear may be coming, unless they publicly announce.  We had a public announcement from an All State IL QB that said he intended to play at UWW- he is a HS senior currently. There have been a couple other high school seniors that have made their intensions public, I think one was a receiver and one a running back from WI.  I know there is a lot of talk down here in the IL flatlands about UWW,  but nothing public to report except high interest.

Even so, wouldn't it be fun to know, emma?  I really hate it when others start to prognosticate the upcoming season and say "...UWW lost this, this, and this due to graduation. How are they going to replace them?" And you have no real rebuttle except saying we play a lot of guys on both sides of the ball and there's a lot of experience returning. So what that the starter has graduated. Plus, these new recruits, unless they're a Coppage-type, are still a year away from getting playing time.

On a side note, & not that it really matters because it comes from a worthless publication, but over on the OAC page, they say one pre-season poll is out and has Mt #1, Wesley #2, and UWW #3. Maybe if we win 60 in a row we might finally make it above Wesley (BOOM) in a preseason poll LOL!! What's that all about?  The Wesley love affair continues...? For some reason, I picture Charlie Brown at a time like this.

That's the Lindy Poll for you.  I wouldn't care too much about it, Bobo.

Besides, when has Wesley ever been in front of us in a presason poll?

Yeah I know recruits can be hard, just curious on the transfers and if anyone has heard of anything. And thanks for the welcome!

I don't know any transfers but that brings up a question- what transfers have had the biggest impact on UWW football during this run from 2005 season?
I don't have the history so I'll throw out some obvious names in no particular order:
Matt Blanchard-QB
Danny Jones-QB
Lane Olson- LB
