So, emma17,
I asked the hubby if he saw you at the golf outing and gave you a big hug from me.  He said he did talk to you but he thought the hug was for Pat Miller.  Apparently, Coach Miller, (who I have met only once, many years ago in Fat Jacks,) looked at him a little befuddled when Steve told him that his wife had made a special point of sending a hug his way.  Too funny................ ;)

02,

From your response:

Question: Who will have the best recruiting class this fall in the OAC?

"umm.....when was the last time this answer wasn't Mount Union?"

Don't have the slightest idea. I know very little on who might be coming UWW, but have zero knowledge about the rest of the WIAC.

If I had to guess, I would default to Whitewater...only because of the success they've had lately. But that's going off of no facts what-so-ever.

So who knows.....

For whatever reason you don't see the public releases of the names of recruits in our league to the extent that you see them from the OAC programs.  You see some it through websites like Wissports.net and an occassional newpaper reference but lists of the entire recruiting class are pretty rare.

From WHITEWATER'S perspective it's because our staff doesn't like to do it until the athlete is enrolled and practicing.  In that regard it's almost like we consider them potential recruits until they are actually on campus.  Occassionally one of our recruits will get mentioned publically somewhere but that almost always is the result of the information coming from them and not from us.

The NJAC schools tend to run the same way. We would hear from them it was because they were worried players would get sniped at the last minute by another conference school.

Obviously, Whitewater knows what they're doing.  Not questioning how they operate.  However I do like it when schools publish their incoming recruiting classes.  IMO, once a S-A accepts their aid package and pays their deposit that's about as good as commitment as you're going to get.  If for some reason a recruit gets calls in the last minute and that creates a change of heart then maybe you would be better off without a player that wasn't all-in to your program in the 1st place.

But that's just the fan in me talking....and it's selfish because with publishing your recruiting class you get the chance to check them all out:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKxJzpbLSaw

What's the saying?  Always a bridesmaid.  ::)
Good time at the outing. I did see a few current players on the course-a certain QB and a certain top corner can hit the ball a loooonng way.

As for recruits, UWW has become so selective as a result of success and limited roster that I have to believe every player coming in must have Starter potential. Not trying to be captain obvious, I simply mean I don't think many "maybe" type kids are invited any longer.

Maybe that explains the different approaches regarding publishing recruiting class info from the WIAC vs. other D-3 conferences.  You know, the old, "public vs. private," thing.                  Private............aid packages.     Public................not so much.     ;) :D ;D

"Not so much" .....  as in none   ???  At least that is how it is for most UWW families I talk to.  Unless you qualify for "financial need based" you do not get a thing.    Makes it that much more remarkable that former DI and DII players continue to drop down to play at UWW.  Many give up some level of scholarship.   One of the other reasons that the UWW staff does not comment on recruits is that there have been many....I repeat many instances where someone dropping down did not make the team, could not make it through summer practice/camp.    Frankly, they do not know who will be on the team, until the final 100 are announced.

Plenty of WIAC athletes get academic scholarships from their schools (and need based as mentioned) as well. The awards just aren't as big since publics aren't as expensive to begin with.

An academic scholarship is much different than an, "aids package," is it not?  One is based on merit and not nearly as common and the other is offered to many, MANY students and student/athletes alike.  I know my son was offered many, "aids packages," but no academic scholarships.  ;)

Generally when athletics people talk about the "aid package" they are talking about both need-based and academic merit-based aid combined. Athletics people don't necessarily care why they get whatever they do be it need or merit, they just want to see the bottom line. That's what I was talking about.
