Ahh.....first tailgate of the season.   Really looking forward to going to St. Louis.  Anyone else making the drive?   Downtown St. Louis has alot to offer.  First, right next to Washington University is the St. Louis Zoo, know worldwide as one of the best, then you have the Lacledes Landing Area which is great night life, music, food, etc.   You have the Gateway Arch and also new Busch Stadium.   The Cardinals are actually playing the Brewers that same night.....talk about a conundrum for you Cheeseheads!  :D 8-) :D  They also play the Brew Crew the next night as well.

So make a weekend of it.   Who will be driving down?

Mrs BW and I plan on making the trip.  Mrs BW retired this year so she'll be able to come along.  As incredible as it may sound despite being married to a sports junkie for 30 years this will be Mrs BW's first WARHAWK football game.  That's what happens when you marry and artist who doesn't really care about sports.  Now that she's retired I suspect she'll be attending a few more sporting events as well.

I take it she never bought into the "properly executed football is an art" theory.  I welcome Mrs. BW to the UWW football scene and hope she brings seven more years of Stagg Bowls with her.

Just posted a small peice on WIAC's non-conference schedule. It contains more facts than you probably cared to know, but I thought I would do something to pass the time until August 31st.

Voice: Hope you're doing alright, take care.

Oh yeah, there is also a brewery to visit!   8-) 8-) 8-)

I think Amtrak has a train from Chicago to St. Louis for $24 one way- now that would be a party train.

The overnite train I used to take from Brussels to München for Oktoberfest ...now that was the definition of a party train. What I would do for some schweinsbraten w/kraut and a few Paulaner's (or Warsteiner) about now!!

The other train I like is that little boogie train inside the Gateway Arch W'Dad was talking about. That is a cool little device and a great way to get up close and personnel with complete strangers. Man those are tight quarters.

Former UW-Whitewater quarterback Matt Blanchard will be one of four quarterbacks on the Chicago Bears roster entering training camp. Blanchard was signed as an undrafted free agent following the Bears' rookie minicamp in early June.  The Lake Zurich, Illinois native has created quite a bit of fan reaction in Chicago Bears chat rooms.  Warhawkfootball.com posted a story this morning on some of the comments of Bears fans in the chat rooms.  Click on the following to access the story  http://www.warhawkfootball.com/newswire.asp

Off subject (but it is the off season  :) ), but a few questions to ponder -  Do you think with the punishment dished out and a "change in culture" in the works at Penn State, is it time to ditch the iconic football uniforms, the ones that a lot of people seem to like, for a more robust, modern look - something with a little more "color?" With some sponsors dropping or possibly re-evaluating their advertising relationships with PSU, is there a manufacturer willing to place their logo on the PSU football uniform at this time? I know allies of the Paterno's have stated that this problem was not a football problem, but I disagree. Nike already dropped Paterno's name from their campus child care center, should they drop Penn State as their corporate partner in the uniform supply business, as well?

IMO, they should re-design the uniform.  And Nike looks like a hypocrite keeping the uniform deal.

Always hated those uniforms.

Does Nike have a contract that still has to run a couple years?  Or can they get out if they want to?
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!
