Quote from: 1_For_27 on July 27, 2012, 11:11:48 AMWill UWW wear the Black Jersey's they wore in this past Stagg Bowl during the regular season at all? It seems like the football program has a New Balance deal, Any chance a big company (Nike, Under Armour, Adidas) comes in and gives them a bid? Also with the consecutive wins record about to be broken any chance ESPN Gameday would ever come to the Perk? Wishful thinking I know, but I would love it!!! Go Hawks!!!
Can't answer the first two questions. But I would say 'no' to your third question. I don't think there's anyway they would come out here.
I contacted ESPN last year in an effort to possibly pursade ESPN Gameday to the Perk. I was told that each week's Gameday site is directly associated with ESPN's top televised game of the day.
I don't believe ESPN for a second on that statement. They've done DIII games in the past, and I highly doubt it was "ESPN's top televised game of the day" on that particular Saturday.
02... I didn't mean ESPN was going to do Gameday at the Perk as the host site for a particular national Gameday site. What they could do is a three-minute segment (for instance) on the UW-Whitewater football story. BTW - Hawks report to training camp on Friday!

That would be very cool if they ended up doing something hat. But, unfortunately, ESPN realizes that 90% of its audience has little to no interest in anything DIII related. Even if it involves breaking NCAA records.

But I would hope they would do something IF we do find ourselves undefeated at the end of the regular season, but we'll see.

You mean WHEN you are undefeated at the end of the regular season, right?   ;)

I'm not foolish enough to say that  :)

Among the many reasons that we've been successfull is that we don't make assumptions like that and deal with opponents one week at a time.  Admitedly "taking it one week at a time" is an over used cliche but in our case it's the philosphy our staff functions under.

There are some interesting things being planned while the team is in St Louis for the season opener vs. Wash U.  I'll post them in the future as the date approaches.

Congratulations to my buddies, Mark Evenstad and Doug Wagen, the "radio voices" of UW-Platteville football for being named today as the co-recipients of the 2012 Tom Butler Award by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The award was began in 1998 and has been given annually to a representative of the print or electronic media for outstanding coverage of WIAC athletics.

Gary Douglas and I were fortuate enough to win the Award back in 2010.

BTW - My daily UW-Whitewater Training Camp Reports will premier on Friday, August 10th and will be aired on KOOL 106.5 at 7:20 a.m. Monday through Friday right up to the season opener on August 31st at Wash U. Each report will also be able to be accessed via podcast.

I'll also have my WARHAWK FOOTBALL THIS WEEK PODCAST that will be uploaded by noon each Wednesday. Even with the chemo and radiation running through my body I definitely have my Warhawk Football game face on!!!

I look forward to every one of them, Voice.  Keep that game face on!! And keep running your race one step at a time! We are all behind you!

413, 02, 17, voice, Dad, others, this one from bears camp is for you...

...badgerwarhawk - you're one of the others!!  ;)

Thanks Bobo- nice picture.
My gal and I made the trip to da Bears Camp yesterday.  Driving home she said "It's just sinking in that we watched Matt actually practicing on the Chicago Bears and the fact is- he looks like he completely belongs there."

As you can imagine there were lots of individual and group drills- and Cutler and Campbell get the reps w Marshall (Beast) and the other starters. Matt ran the third offense for the only live scrimmage at the end of practice.  Matt threw very well (4 of 5) and showed his athleticism w a scramble.

Saturday night's practice drew 12,000 fans.

Another one (Hopefully the bus wasn't moving at the time!):

D3football Preseason top 25 is out

1.  UWW  616 pts. (17 first place votes)  Surprisingly, one voter, I believe, has UWW ranked #3  ???
2.  UMU   608 pts. (8 first place votes)

23. Platteville 96 pts. (this is not a misprint - I double checked!)
RV  Oshkosh  35 pts.

"You mean WHEN you are undefeated at the end of the regular season, right?"

This comment reminds me- UWW plays Buffalo State the second game (week 3). Buff St had a respectable record last year playing a very good schedule. They open with 2 tough opponents before coming to UWW.  Just a reminder that as with every year, most every UWW opponent can be the streak-breaker.

I'm sure they felt it was respectable since they haven't had a winning season since '00 (7-4) when they played an independent schedule AND over the last 12 seasons, they've averaged slight over 3 wins a season. The Bengals were 5-5 overall (5-4 NJAC) last season. This will be like playing Midland or Dakota St. IMO except it's a D3 team. Franklin is a much better team and that regular season game at their place was not very competitive.

I was talking with one rather knowlegeable WIAC football fan last night. The conversation was about what conference team will be the strongest behind UWW at the top of the WIAC. His answer was unequivocally UW-Platteville. The Pioneers finished 2nd in the conference last year and featured the WIAC's No. 2 defense (scoring & rushing D). UWP returns eight offensive starters, nine more on defense.  If you remember last year Platteville was tied at 14-all at halftime of its game at Whitewater and trailed by just 6 points heading into the 4th quarter.  The question will be can the Pioneers repeat its defensive effort this season.

Plus they were plagued by injuries all last year. If they can stay healthy, and looking at what they have returning, I think this is a very good team in the WIAC.

UWW has to play them on the road this year. It should be a good one.

In the bag.  UWW will steamroll the WIAC again this year.  Platteville will be just a minor speed-bump on the way to UWW's NCAA All Time Consecutive Wins Record Immortality.

Hmm- this has wager action written all over it. If we had a time machine I would give you Franklin and 7 points last year vs Buff State. Franklin became a fan favorite based on 2010- but they really have benefitted from a weak schedule.  Buff State lost by a TD to two playoff teams last year. Their record dating back to 2000 concerns me not.
