10. Increase in WIAC's budget. With the economy improving ever so slowly, hopefully the WIAC will entertain the idea of once again scheduling ALL its non-conference opponents outside the WIAC in the near future. I know....this one might be a stretch, so I won't hold my breath for it.
-----------------------------------------
It's my understanding that this will be the last year of the in conference, nonconference game and programs will schedule all of their opponents in the future.

That's good to hear. Thanks!

This might be the heir apparent to the Beaver-Coppage-?? line of RB's:

Josh Williams

Chicago Tribune  Illinois 2011 All-state 1st team selection

I think they were trying to make a loud statement with the first play of the video highlights!!

Without a doubt, Josh is highly regarded by those who are familiar with him.  I do think he will be facing stiff competition in the backfield this year.  I am very interested to see where Byron Stanford and Des Ward are with another year in the program.  There are other freshman running backs who can play as well.  I think it will be interesting to see what develops in the backfield the next several weeks.

DoubleO

What about Evan (Edgar) Wright? He had an oustanding IL prep career at Fremd HS in Palatine and I thought he had been seeing some carries the last couple of seasons. Does he factor into the mix at RB?

Double O- I've kept an eye out for Evan- he simply has struggled to crack the lineup.  Having watched him play in high school- I get the feeling his style doesn't fit perfectly with the UWW system.

Josh has an older brother- Scottie- the running back for Elmhurst College.
An interesting article:
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-10-01/sports/ct-spt-1002-prep-athlete-month-williams-20111001_1_preps-plus-athlete-wgn-ch-scottie-williams

"We've had some good tailbacks that we featured in our offense, but what Josh has been able to do is pretty extraordinary," Downers Grove South coach John Belskis said. "He is the same speed in every direction. He's 4.5 this way, 4.5 that way and 4.5 this way, and he does all the intangibles as well as he runs. There's a coach out there who's going to get a great one, and he probably doesn't know it."

5. Oshkosh's year to knock off Whitewater?

Déjà vu all over again...

...I'm sorry, but some of you guys come up with this one every year.  :o This has become so cliché.

Of course, the law of averages will eventually turn in your favor - it's just that the whole idea has lost it's luster.

I think it was emma that lead the Oshkosh parade last year. And I was one of the many that rolled my eyes at him. But I'll tell you.....I quickly became a believer after attending that UWO/UWW game in Oshkosh last year. With the star power that UWO has returning, they can make another strong run at the warhawks. I think either UWO or UWP has the best chance to put an end to UWW's streak this regular season.

I appreciate the feedback....and you're right it has become a cliche on when UWW will lose again, and it has lost some luster. But I'm just trying to keep an open mind on when uww comes back down to earth.

Josh Williams is the real deal and will make an immediate impact at running back in my opinion.....his high school is in our conference so we at OPRF are quite familiar with his talent.....

I think you need to check who they lost and who they have returning because, IMO, they lost a lot more than you think:

Other than Wara, who is the star power?  Production they have to replace on offense - Weissman, Roach, Fox, Budiac, Price, 2 all-conference 1st team lineman + the punter. That's a lot of their offense that Wara isn't going to have at his disposal. Cole Myhra is a nice back, but I'm not sure he's an every down back - and not much returns behind him. Voss, as a receiver, was a pleasant surprise for them, I think, but he really wasn't Wara's first option. He'll have to be this year. Most of the attention was directed towards Fox and Budiac, & Price and Roach to a smaller degree so Voss was able to sneak in with some big catches. On defense they lost 2 all conference lineman and Breeze and Stueck as DB's. Two guys you mentioned with the TFL & sacks were really role players to Brent Aaron and Vince Sciano in the trenches & Taylor Goodman at LB. They won't have the 2 big guys this year occupying space and the opponents attention. Only time will tell if they're up to the challenge. Plus, you can't over emphasize the way Breeze and Stueck made everyone around them better. They are really going to miss those two guys.  But the fact of the matter is that the defense, especially rush defense, was their weakness last year.

Oshkosh having to travel to WW this year after having the Warhawks at Titan Stadium the past 2 years will not work to their advantage. Really curious what kind of recruiting class they have this year. Nothing is posted yet.

I remember talking to Antwan Anderson during his senior season at UWW. AA was out of Madison Memorial HS and was a freshman in 2007 when Justin Beaver was a senior. I remember AA telling me that he had high hopes of being the Hawks "lead" tailback his sophomore season. Oops, a freshman named Levell Coppage showed up in 2008. Not getting the No. 1 tailback spot sure didn't hurt AA's effort on the field. AA was perhaps the No. 1 "backup" tailback in UWW history finishing his career with 2626 yards and 28 touchdowns. What made AA even more special was his effort as a special teams (kick and punt coverage) player. His effort with ball, or without ball, made the Hawks better. UWW's young running backs should be required to watch film of AA

They are returning six All-WIAC players from last season, including the best player in the WIAC this year (Nate Wara), imo. Only two other programs in the WIAC are returning more than Oshkosh (UWW and UWP). You're right they are losing a good chunk of last year's team...but so is Whitewater. But UWW can prove they can reload, where as UWO hasn't shown that yet.

Of course I believe UWW will win that game. It certainly does give us a huge advantage that the game is at the Perk this season. I was just throwing the possibility out there. I know for certain I'm not the only Warhawk fan that's worried about this game.

Actually the more I think about it, the UWP game for Whitewater might be just as tough. If not tougher.

Thanks bobo, this is good stuff...I appreciate the discussion.

We have arrived.  You know the season is rapidly approaching when 02Warhawk starts his "worrying"!   ;D 8-) ;D  For one, I am adopting the UWW, one practice at a time and one game at a time mentality, improving with each game.  I expect my tailgating to improve with each trip to the parking lot and through the help of all my teamates and coaches, I am lookin forward to a wonderful season!   8-) 8-)

You won't hear me worrying about tailgating though. I expect to be in midseason form and up to the task on 9/15. Looking forward on seeing everyone there.

Looks like Mount Union's QB (Matt Piloto) just found out he can't play his senior year because his eligibility ran out.
