Watching Blanchard play, just excited me. IMHO, Blanchard just has that look, hopefully he makes it.

I agree Bobo......why would anyone pay that much for preseason tickets......simple answer our season/pre season tickets all cost the same....in all the years we have had season tickets I have never been to a preseason game and after last night I don't see it happening soon......

I might be weird, but I'd prefer watching from home even for a regular season game. I've got my 60" LED, my couch, my snacks, my DVR rewind, whats not to love about that?

Granted, seeing a game at Lambeau is a bit unique. And I'd definitely prefer to attend a playoff game in person. But most Sundays I just want to relax at home and watch as much football as possible.

And yes, at this point Blanchard looks legit. He's obviously a rookie and has a lot to learn, but early indications are positive from what I can tell.

I hope he can get a real shot to play at some point for some team. Not that being a 2nd/3rd string QB for several years is a bad gig, but it would be awesome to see a DIII guy starting at QB. Fred Jackson, London Fletcher, Pierre Garcon, etc. are great, but a QB starting and performing well in the NFL would be a huge feather in the cap for DIII.

Mr. Ypsi

While his time predates d3, Ken Anderson (Augustana; CCIW) not only played QB in the NFL, he was league MVP one season (and presumably received at least some consideration for HoF)!

Of course, that has been a while ago!

He's certainly a great example. Is it just me, or did more small college guys seem to get a shot back in those days? Granted there were a lot more rounds to the draft as well. And even though that's not applicable to Anderson as 3rd round selection, it almost proves the point. I just can't ever imagine a team taking a DIII QB in the 3rd round today. Just seems like it'd be too much heat for a GM. Which is a shame.

Bears:
The Bear's o-line continues to be a massive cause for concern, be it the first, second or third team guys.  There is no excuse for the first team not being able to run the ball at least a little.  Although some of the sacks given up were the result of good coverage (or poor routes) and perhaps the QB's being a little reluctant to try and make a big, there was a big differnece in the amount of time and space the Indy QB's had versus the Bear's QB's.  All this talent in the skilled positions and still such uncertainty on the O-Line!

Blanchard:
It was great watching Matt and hearing the announcers talk about him "all he does is win".  He showed poise and I feel great leadership in the huddle.  He looked like he was deliberately taking things a little slower as he acclimated to the big stage.  6 for 6 and the Int is mostly on the receiver.  The slant route should almost be a blind throw- the receiver has one job- get the DB on his back- and that didn't happen.  A  more experienced QB may have been able to pull that throw back, but it was unfortunate.
I also got the feeling Matt wasn't using all his speed to break from the pass rush. We all know the pro game is super fast, but Matt is still faster than any of the D-Linemen.
Can't wait for his next chance.

I agree, great poise for a first game in the NFL.  Performed great.   I had a feeling that when he was sacked that they called 3-step drop plays and Matt was running what they called.  Hopefully the Bears want to develop a quarterback.

People, it's nearly time to start thinking Pick'em Contest...

...anyone thinking that?

Less than 3 weeks until that first game on the schedule.

Who wants to take charge? I would but there will be more than a few weeks that I will be traveling and unable to fullfill the duties of the position.

The bears sat their four best players. So I guess it was expected that the first team would struggle. Plus it seemed like the bears first team defense didn't give up a point, and picked off manning in his first drive.

Plus they are still the Bears...  ;D

Which is one of the reasons why I wonder anybody in their right mind would pay, on average, $78 for a ticket to a preseason game, especially the first preseason game (unless your son was playing in his first NFL game!!) I don't think a team goes into a game expecting to struggle. Denver didn't, or so it seemed.

For the record, the Packers were probably more inept on Thurs PM than the bears.

Agreed

Preseason games are cash cows for the owners.  They charge full price and have minimal expenses.

UW-Whitewater greeted 136 to training camp Saturday. Following a morning session of physical testing Saturday the team hit the practice field for real Saturday afternoon. It was hard to make a lot of judgements as Badgerhawk and I watched practice.  I focused primarily on the offense and the one thing that jumped out at me was the efficiency that Lee Brekke was throwing the ball.  I also am impressed with the recieving corps. Tyler Huber is a stud (85 receptions for 1,331 yards & 10 TDs).  I predict that Steve Morris will have a "breakout' year after learning the system for much of last year.  Hopefully I'll have the preseason roster in hand watching tomorrow's helmet and pads only practice.

Actually I had my digital recorder on for much of the time me and BW were watching practice. Be watching for a "pay for listen" podcast to be available shortly. Just kidding!!

One of the more unique stories at Division III training camps this summer is that of last spring's Division III Men's Basketball Player of the Year, Chris Davis, attempting to make the UW-Whitewater football roster. Chris going out for football is no joke. He paricipated in spring practice and the coaching staff liked what they saw. As a senior at Madison East in 2006, Davis accounted for 558 yards and nine touchdowns on 41 receptions while breaking the school's reception and touchdown records. Davis tells me that the key for him playing tight end will be to become fundamentally solid in UWW's blocking schemes.

Click on the following link to read a story that the Wisconsin State Journal published following UWW's spring practice

So that's why the podcast wouldn't work when I tried to open the AM and PM podcast posted on WFAW website. I didn't pay!!  But, it never asked me to pay. Looks like a technical difficulty that needs to be looked into by the station engineers.

Thanks for letting me know my training camp podcasts wouldn't open.  My contract is a "paid per click" situation.  So much for tnat.  Really, the podcasts are  free of charge - even when they work!
