People, it's nearly time to start thinking Pick'em Contest...

...anyone thinking that?

Less than 3 weeks until that first game on the schedule.

Who wants to take charge? I would but there will be more than a few weeks that I will be traveling and unable to fullfill the duties of the position.

i'll let someone else do it this year....

Alright.  With BoBo and 02 out, guess it is time to step up.  I will manage the WIAC pick em's unless there are any objections. Please, feel free............ ;)
Now per last season,  Conference games are worth 2 points, NC games worth 1 point and I will add 3 (?) national contests from D-3 football's top 25.  What do you guys want to decide about the NC games between WIAC teams and do we wait to do the national games until the season starts or right from week 1?  Thoughts?

Beautiful one page story on Blanchard in today's Sun-Times! Very impressive!

4th String QB Matt Blanchrd is Looking to Buck the Odds
I was in Wisconsin Thursday night so I actually just watched Matt play on my DVR.  Thought he did a great job.  So poised and his pass to Summers on 4th and 2 was sensational!  What, "speed of the game."  ;D  Now, I am completely biased but he hardly looked like a 4th string QB to me.  Just surreal watching him on TV in a Bears uniform!!!

FWIW I think we should include WIAC out of conference games and wait until the season starts to include national games.  But I'm game for whatever the rest of you decide.

UWL opens practice in a cool drizzle. Hard to believe after the hot summer. In any case, coach Dettwiler believes his team is "light years" ahead of where it was last year at this time. While careful not to predict how many wins are in store, he seems to have brought a new intensity to the program and I am eager to see some progress in the W column. In a brief article in today's La Crosse Tribune, coach Dettwiler indicated that the biggest question mark is at QB, where junior Andy Sires and sophomore Zach Mestelle will battle for the starting nod. Five offensive lineman return to block for junior RB Ben Hertrampf, who ran well last year. A transfer or two should shore up a defense which played well at times,  but lost some contributors. As other posters have noted, the schedule is tough with the first 4 games on the road. I am inclined to believe we are headed back to prominence, but have a ways to go.

New coach, new stadium, new attitude.  It was always, only a matter of time, before the Eagles rise to the top again, IMHO.  Too much pride and history there.  I am interested to see how they handle that schedule.

If they can somehow steal a couple of wins in that road trip, it might be considered a success then.

I'll actually be visiting my family in IL the weekend La Crosse is at NCC. So I think we'll head over to Naperville and catch this game.

IMO the biggest difference for this season for UWL is a full offseason in their new strength and conditioning program.  They got an entirely new workout facility and a dedicated strength (sports performance) coach that they never had before.  This combined with it being year 2 of Dettwilers term and the players familiarity with the systems should make UWL much improved this year.  Many of the players made huge gains in the offseason that just didn't happen in past years.

Good to hear, plus I read they have a transfer from Winona State that'll help out their secondary.

Yeah I've heard of a few transfers to UWL, but who knows which ones will be able to contribute.  It seems like every year there is hype about a transfer or two that never pans out.

UWL will be a better team for sure, I just don't know how that will translate to wins with the tough early schedule.

I'm Baaaack!!

You may be biased, but that doesn't make you wrong. I thought he looked better than McKown, (not a real insightful analysis, and I don't think I'm out on a limb either)  and although some might say he wasn't playing against the top players, you also have to factor in that he may not have been playing WITH the best players. His poise was noticable. Not only did he look good passing, his timing and execution on some of those stretch handoffs, where the QB is required to get to a spot where the RB is at the right time, was spot on. Good luck to him, but if he keeps up that kind of play, luck might not enter in.

dlippiel

Dlip agrees Matt Blanchard looked pretty darn good, definitely better than Mckown. Dlip would LOVE to see Matt succeed and mirrors the previous comments. If he keeps that poise and timing it may just work out.
