Had a great time yesterday at game and pregame gathering. Solid start to the season.

Here are some initial Broad brush thoughts after watching ball game last night:

1. I thought the offensive line played well. Rb's made it to the second level consistently. Every offensive line is a work in progress and the competition will get stiffer, but a nice start. Incidentally, I was impressed with the tackling of WU linebackers and DB's.

2. The passing game needs a lot of work. It appears Brekke has a lot more chemistry with Morris right now than the others which makes sense since they both worked as back ups last year. Brekke was much more effective between the numbers than along the sidelines. Chemistry and communication should improve as the season progresses.

3.  I don't remember a UWW team with this many targets in the 6'4"/6'5" range.

4.  I thought all 4 UW-W running backs flashed something positive. There is a depth of talent at the position. It will be really interesting to see who earns carries as time goes on.

5.  The UWW defense was so dominant it is hard to tell how good they are. They are swarming for sure. They appear to be very fast, but that probably has to be confirmed against better competition. They definitely hit...hard.

6. Too early to know anything for sure, but I think I know these safeties are excellent, the linebackers are fast and react well to the ball and the cornerbacks have promise. Pendergast came on well at the end of last year and McLin had a spectacular debut. Beyond tWhe picks and TD, he provided tight coverage and good support. all of
That being said, it seems unrealistic to think a team could lose a player of Timm's ability without being weakened. But it's getting harder and harder to put anything past this program.

7. The d-line dominated as expected. Once again
The propensity of jumping offsides on hard counts will have to be addressed.

8. Kickoff coverage was excellent. Kindler's leg appears even stronger than last year. As Hawkview mentioned, the ball even SOUNDS different coming off his foot.

9. Much more work, decisiveness, and good decision-making is needed in the punt return game.

10. 3 turnovers can't happen again, regardless of weather.

Never thought this would be possible but I'm longing to be back at UWRF for the season opener.  My grad school doesn't even have football, nor is there much of anything for D3 football in Nebraska, so I guess I'll have to live vicariously through the WIAC radio broadcasts this fall.

Good luck to everyone today and throughout the season.

Just  heard  on the radio  that Matt Blanchard has  been named  to the Bears practice squad!!!  So happy for him, his family and it's  great  for the Warhawk  program!!!    And the fact that you boys will have to hate  the Bears  just a tiny  bit  less........well, that's  just  a bonus!                       ;)

That's awesome! Great for D3 as well. Anytime you make the Wiscy boys hate Da Bears less is a plus!!

Excellent-that was always a distinct possibility since May camps-Bears really like him as a QB.

OUTSTANDING MATT!!!

on another subject - UWW's second game opponent looks like they'll bring a potent offense to the Perk.

Buff State routed a pretty good Cortland State team today 49-31.  Cortland is the preseason favorite to win the New Jersey Athletic Conference title.

Buff State with 706 yards of offense.  579 yards passing.
Quarterback Casey Kacz was 30 of 42 for 579 yards and five touchdowns.

The UWW-Buff State game will be played on Sept. 15th.  Buff State travels to Brockport State next Saturday.

Johnnies win 52 - 7. Next week at UWEC will be a far better barometer of whether or not The Johnnies are back in the mix.

To be fair they did play Northwestern. If St. Johns is back they can send a new class of players down to The Perk who, unless they had someone use a medical redshirt, did not see any action against UWW in 2008 and will come in all bright eyed and bushy tailed for a triple monkey stomp!  ;D....... ;)

Congrats to UW-L, UW-P, and UW-O for flexing WIAC muscle today!

Great news for Matt.  I have to admit that I didn't think he much chance after being cut the first time around.  And then when I saw what McCown did in the last preseason game, he was lights out, I thought Matt was a goner.   Which just goes to show you that despite my having been a frequent guest at Holiday Inn Express I don't really know anything.  Congrats and good luck Matt.

However it will not make me dislike the Bears any less.  The Bears still suck.

Just got back from Naperville...what's win for la crosse! Very opportunistic defense, as the D scored 14 of the team's 21 points.

They forced 6 NCC turnovers. They did not look like a 3-7 team from last year. However the offense didn't do a whole lot. They had one big play for a TD.

as for NCC, they did not look good at all on offense. Defense looked great, but the offense is really one dimensional. When forced to pass, NCC is in trouble this year.

Fun game to attend. It speaks volumes for the strength of the WIAC!

Congratulations to UWO on a whooping over my Dutch today.  We are a young team and you could have written the score of your choice.  Glad you gave us the chance to gain something positive out of the game in the second half.  You have a fantastic QB.  Good luck with the rest of your season.

Sorry, NOT going to happen. The bears still will always suck!! But good for him, D3, Warhawks and WIAC.
