Just got back from Naperville...what's win for la crosse! Very opportunistic defense, as the D scored 14 of the team's 21 points.

They forced 6 NCC turnovers. They did not look like a 3-7 team from last year. However the offense didn't do a whole lot. They had one big play for a TD.

as for NCC, they did not look good at all on offense. Defense looked great, but the offense is really one dimensional. When forced to pass, NCC is in trouble this year.

Fun game to attend. It speaks volumes for the strength of the WIAC!

Oh yea, I want to add that hallingstad is no joke as a punter. I can see why he's preseason all american. He had some bombs!

He was huge today.  His last punt that was 50+ and went out at the 2 was clutch.

That was awesome. My dad and I sat on NCC side and we tried our best to keep our emotions at bay with that punt. NCC doesn't have that type of offense for a quick strike, so I knew the game was over.

My daddy always told me, "Son, if your best offensive weapon is the punter, it's going to be a long season!"  ;)

Just  heard  on the radio  that Matt Blanchard has  been named  to the Bears practice squad!!!  So happy for him, his family and it's  great  for the Warhawk  program!!!    And the fact that you boys will have to hate  the Bears  just a tiny  bit  less........well, that's  just  a bonus!                       ;)

You hear it (potentially) here first!!

For the most part practice squad players are chosen from those who are part of the final cut on either the team they were associated with or some other team.  Cutting Matt now is more than likely an indication that the Bears aren't planning on adding him to their practice squad.  It's unfortunate, he was doing so well.

Why they would cut him and keep a slug like McCown baffles me.  But they are the Bears.

I've read some talk on Twitter that says the Bears may not keep McCown either... and only have two QB's on the 53. That could potentially open the door to Blanchard on the practice squad, though it doesn't seem likely.

Some questions and thoughts after week 1.
-I caught some of the UWEC game on radio but wasn't exactly sure of the game situation when the last interception occurred.  I'm not saying UWEC deserved to win because St. Thomas showed great character.  But my understanding is all UWEC had to do was run out the clock a bit- but passed?? Is that what happened?
-Does it seem this may be one of the most competitive years the WIAC has seen?
-With the high flying offenses of Buffalo State, Pville and Oshkosh, thank God the strength of the team is the defense.
-I'm looking forward to seeing the Aussie punt- I hear it sounds like a cannon when he kicks.

EC gave it up (twice) by throwing it up, stopping the clock on numerous incompletions and throwing the INT. Should've handed the ball to Sweeney for 4-5 yds a pop and the game ends. Plus the defense didn't lay a hand on the last two guys to score - the WR caught a 10 yard pass then outran everyone for another 40 yards and a TD; then the QB runs untouched 32 yards for the winner. Conditioning-wise, EC looked absolutely exhausted the last 1/2 of the 4th quarter. Even the EC announcers were commenting on that.

To early to tell about the competition being better. Central and Buena Vista are not that good; La Crosse looked weak on offense and NCC worse than that; Point went toe-to-toe with a highly-ranked, but always suspect NAIA school and RF lost to a lower level Iowa conference school. WW beat an overmatched Wash U. What more can you say?

Buff St will learn what an excellent defense looks like (I don't think they experienced one today in Cortland) - I have a feeling they'll come crashing down with a thud.

I hope the next games you don't get a chance to hear the Aussie or the fistballer punt.  ;)  But, bring your ear protection just in case.

emma, here's in interesting situation - if, when striking the ball on a punt, the Aussie makes a sound like a cannon, would he have to sit up on the hill during home playoff games? I do believe his foot would be considered an artificial noisemaker, thus making him in violation of the rule. Just a thought!

And it was an entertaining episode.

Interesting thought if the Daleks really don't know who the Doctor is.

And, given Dorium's comments at the end of last season, it's clear the arc/hook is going to "doctor who?"...

And, I think it's time for the Ponds to go... just a few more left...

Love it!!  But during the season when I finally get to come to the Perk, I will get to hear the canon, correct?  I really hope so.  So glad to see that UWW is right on track with their 2012 campaign.  I AM LOOKING FORWARD to coming to Wisconsin.  It's been at least 35 years since I've been there. Then I only got to Milwaukee and Green Bay (Henry Jordan land!!!)

Absolutely...at Perkins Stadium, the cannon has been known to fire spontaneously & repeatedly on most saturdays in late summer and autumn!! They might even fire an honorary barrage for you in exchange for a scrumptious pan of your famous treat!!  ;)

It would only be an "artificial noisemaker" if he had an artificial foot/leg. SHEESH! Really? ;D

Also, the Front Page Poll asks which conference had a better weekend, and, I'm guessing here, youse guys voted for the WIAC over the MIAC. How about some evidence. The one possible shred would be that UWL beat a highly ranked team. However, it IS in a PRESEASON Poll, and time will tell if they deserved that ranking. What were the respective Conference records, and add to that  UST beat UWEC, and there's no doubt. Is there?

Pat Coleman

Was St. Thomas not supposed to beat UW-Eau Claire?

Doesn't matter. It's actually the Empire 8 that had the best weekend, but I had to put some other options out there.

Neu attempted an impossible pass as he was being dragged to the ground, which went right into the arms of a UST defender. which led to the go ahead TD

Before that posession they couldn't get a punt off, which lead to a TD.

UWEC had that game won. UST took full advantage of uwec's mistakes, which is was good teams do.

Why they weren't running the ball to run the clock down is beyond me.

Would ur opinion change if UWEC pulled that game off?
