Congrats to the WIAC board for reaching the 50% plateau. I spread a bunch of Karma around to the more frequent posters. I'm not being condescending here. It shows what the UWW success has done to spur interest. Keep up the good work.

If anyone wants to use my old Logic 101 workbook, I still have it.

You mean there isn't a movie theater in WW either? How the hell are they supposed to recruit football players to the lousy, little town? There must be something else that is attracting them.  ;)

Actually there is a movie theater.  It's located on the far westside behind the Taco Bell.  Four screens no less.

Those who don't think Wisconsin athletes have any options but D3 or the UW should take a look at the Minnesota D2's rosters sometime.  Some of those schools have made recruiting Wisconsin a higher priority and they're loaded with Wisconsin athletes.  Particularly those like Winona and Duluth who are on the east side of the state.

Duluth: 45, Winona: 30, Mankato: 27
Ya, about an hour after posting, a light went off and I remembered that there might be one out on that side of town.  Shows how much I go that direction, too far away from the bars downtown.   ;D  Still, the point is, if you took a poll of the football roster as to the top 15 reasons why they choose UWW, pretty sure that the town of Whitewater would come in about, oh.................18th!  No offense WW!  I love you!   :-*

Duluth: 44 WI, 46 MN
Winona: 29 WI, 33 MN
Mankato: 29 WI, 26 MN
Southwest: 12 WI, 52 MN
Concordia: 19 WI, 34 MN
Augustana: 1 WI, 39 MN
Sioux Falls: 4 WI, 14 MN
Northern St: 3 WI; 18 MN
Bemidji: 21 WI, 51 MN
St. Cloud: 2 WI, 17 MN
Crookston: 6 WI, 25 MN
Morehead: 2 WI, 43 MN
Total: 172 WI v. 398 MN

NDSU: 14 WI, 33 MN
SDSU: 5 WI, 17 MN
UND: 13 WI, 29 MN
USD: 3 WI, 5 MN
UNI: 5 WI, 17 MN
Total: 40 WI v. 101 MN

So yes, they do recruit some Wisconsin athletes. But they far and away recruit more MN athletes. Which given proximity and population factors just makes sense.

This isn't a knock on the WIAC. I'm a Nebraska fan. I don't hate on Alabama for having the recruiting backyard they do. But it is a reality. It's Nebraska's job to overcome the hurdle. Same with the MIAC.

I've spent much of my Labor Day going D3football.com retro.  I went to the then-D3football.com WIAC chat room in its first year - 2005, The smack talk the weeks of the St. Johns, Linfield and Mount Union playoff games was incredible.

We all know that Bobo is the spiritual leader of this thread. He'll have to  verify but I think that he first went by Seoulman as in S. Korea. I first discovered his posts the week of the 2005 national semifinal vs. Wesley. He told the Wolverines to make sure to bring  long johns. They did but forgot to bring cleatless shoes. Good call Seoulman if thats who your really are.
Tell me about it!  The middle of the 05 season is when I first found the boards and started posting.  Every new play-off week brought a deluge of posters from the Johnnies, Cats and Raider fans telling us that the WIAC boys were too slow and fat to ever make it deep in the play-offs.  My personal favorite and I still repeat it occasionally, "No WIAC team will ever be playing football in December."  One of those Cat fans has become a good friend and was a huge supporter for my son during his cancer fight.  Turns out, he's all bark!  Happens often on the boards, I have found.    ;) :D ;D

The movie theater is just past the Culvers (MN has 10,000 lakes; WI has 10,000 Culvers).

The mall is down the road from the movie theater ... in Janesville.

Whitewater has a very nice train depot, but no trains actually stop there.

I'm sorry 413, I've been busy too, so I get the last word...

...I just want notlongago to tell me where that mall is in Whitewater, Wisconsin? I've been looking for it for 50 or 60 years and still haven't found it. Are you kidding me?
LOL, it's right next to the movie theater!            Oh, wait.................... 8-)

I'm guessing notlongago has never been to Whitewater.   ;D

Just to round out the "local" D-II's...

Northern Michigan:
WI: 13 MN: 0

Michigan Tech:
WI: 23 MN: 3

Upper Iowa:
WI: 13 MN: 3

And, in so much as McKendree (far southern IL) and Quincy (western IL) are "local", neither one of them has a player from WI or MN.

Well, I was busy the last 24 hours and it looks like you guys kicked the dead horse pretty well without me so I agree with BP that giving Pat, the unbiased opinion of the group, the last the last word is a good idea.  BUT,  ;)    I just want to make one tiny response to our friend from the MIAC, retangent.  Your comment about just acceptHing the evidence and denying the facts?    Well, Buddy........... that goes both ways!  8-) Fact is the majority of D-3 Championships since 1973, have been won by small private schools, so say what you will about our big public school advantages, it has not translated to more titles!!!  Look at Mount Union's success!  UW-W has become a bit of an outlier for many reasons, (improved facilities, a couple of talented recruiting classes in the mid-2000's, success at the national level as in, "winning breeds winning,' etc.,) the last 8 years but it is not because we are a public school!                                                                           http://www.ncaa.com/history/football/d3

Who am I kidding.....................I am not good at giving someone else the last word.  ;D

Now, for the reason I wanted to post.  WIAC pick em's close on Thursday right before game time when UW-LC travels to Norther Michigan. This is a very short week between that and the Monday holiday.  Get your selections in early!!!

I don't the history between the two of you well enough to know if this reference was intentional, but I've seen enough of his posts to KNOW it is appropriate! :)

Good additions Point Special:

I think that brings the total number of WI players at nearby FCS/DII schools to 261
MN players at nearby FCS/DII to 505

Add in the extra 400,000 people in WI and I'd say that's a pretty substantial variance.

I know the top 25 teams are listed every week, but is that it?  Does the ranking go down any further?  I saw the preseason in Kickoff, but it didn't change any.
