It didn't look like those DII scholarship players were too solid against Findley.  Admittedly I don't know much about Findley perhaps they're really, really good.  But NMU's defense gave up a ton of points and their offense struggled.  If LaCrosse can come up with another defensive effort like last week they just might have a fighting chance in this one.  However I didn't pick them to win.  I guess we'll know tomorrow morning.

Findley was 6-5 last year when their HC was in his first year at the school. They have 22 returning starters this year...they might have a decent team.

However, I did pick LX to win. Go Eagles!!

I ass - u - me d that you hung on my every post, so the 50% reference was to an earlier post about getting to half of the MIAC number of posts. I thought my context would give it away. I won't go back to 2005, but I would guess that the percentage was around 20%.

I know we on the MIAC board get into other irrelevant areas (as do many other boards) and youse guys are all about football (and personal stuff that affects one of the WIAC "family" of course) It was just a milestone I figured should be recognized.

I got what you were saying the first time around.

I think the WIAC will overtake us before long. Much of our board chatter is due to the Johnnie love fest. While there was certainly plenty of hand ringing the past few years, IMO, the board has been much more quiet as SJU has stepped out of the national picture.

If UWW continues its run, and I see no reason for them slowing down right now, the WIAC chatter will continue to increase. If SJU continues it's slump - something I'm hoping Bethel contributes to! - I think the MIAC board will slowly lose ground. Of course, it's also possible that the SJU love fest is replaced by a UST love fest...I just threw up in my mouth  :-[

I was going to make the argument that Findlay is probably decent... and seasoned, because the GLIAC is a pretty good football conference...

But then I remembered that NMU is in the GLIAC too.  Oops.  :o

FWIW, NMU was 3-7 last year.

The SJU "love fest" will be re-kindled like hot coals this Saturday when they administer a 1st class beat down of the Bleucheesemolds in Oh Clare. Remember, you read it here first.

New article from the La Crosse Tribune:  http://lacrossetribune.com/sports/uw-l-football-hallingstad-a-difference-maker-for-eagles/article_cd4a2d12-f714-11e1-9004-001a4bcf887a.html

The Eagles have a tough task tomorrow against Northern Michigan.  They've only had a couple days of practice, plus they are traveling there and back on gameday after traveling to Illinois last weekend.  This is what happens when the majority of D3 schools won't schedule a game with you, something that all WIAC schools have dealt with.

Anyone know anything about Northern Michigan?  I know they lost their season opener pretty handily, but I have no idea how to tell how the Eagles stack up against them.

Typically DIII schools don't match up well against DII schools. UWW played a DII school back in 2008 and lost. Like you said, it's not helping their cause by only getting a few days of practice in. I suppose NMU is in the same boat, but at least they don't have to travel.

True about many, but La Crosse has a pretty good track record recently playing UP - beating MO Sciences (DII) twice & South Dakota State (DI) on the road. Weather won't be a factor since NMU plays in a dome. I'll probably be the only one picking the Eagles in the pick'em just because no one else will & I think they have a chance.

Bobo- I will join you in picking La Crosse. I am relying on the LaCrosse punter to be the difference maker- despite the words of wisdom you were given  :)

If Eau Claire was a consistent team, I would comment, but you just never know if a great Blugold team is showing up or a serious choker will. We will see.

Yeah, I'm biting my tongue for the same reasons!  But SJU better be improved from last year cuz I think UWEC beat them by nearly 30 points.

My first two thoughts to this post:

1.  Playing Northwestern (Mn) must be REALLY good for one's confidence.
2.  How far the Johnny's have fallen that they actually beat their chest at the prospect of beating Eau Claire.  Not actually beating Eau Claire mind you, just the prospect of beating them.

Oh, one question.  What's the shelf-life of said proposed re-kindled hot coals, about mid-way through the 2nd quarter September 15?  ;)

This is the kind of stuff that gets my dander up!! Everyone knows that over the past 6 - 7 years, UWW has been a dominant force in D III. The way you dismiss a team that has more wins than any D III school, and has been in the discussion as a National Power for 10 times as long is sad. If your frame of reference is so short, and you have no sense of history, remember when the fall comes, it will be hard to handle. If you want respect, give respect.

Ret, I can't match the humor of Bobo's and Bleed's replies- I'd give em both k's if legal.

I'm looking forward to the match up though.  It will say a lot for where both teams truly are for the season.  Just think, if St. John's wins big, you'll have the whole comparative score thing to bust the Tommie's chops with.

I didn't see anyone talk about Wittenberg here.

;D well played.

And not much was mentioned about the Johnnies themselves, either.

My response was to a poster who came to the WIAC board boasting of a future beat-down his beloved boys would put on a WIAC team that beat the Johnnies by 28 points last year.   He was trying to stir things up. I have no problem with that.  One of his Johnny brethren seems to, though...
