As many of you already know, I have been battling stage-two colon cancer for the past couple months and I continue to focus on taking this fight "a day at a time." I continue to spend many of my days either at my computer or watching a Warhawk football practice developing stories to keep UW-Whitewater fans up to date on the Warhawks.

I must admit that this disease has sapped a lot of my energy but my passion to keep fans updated on UW-Whitewater football has been some of the best therapy according to my doctors.

With hospital and medical bills now approaching 200-thousand dollars the small fund drive implemented by my daughter Kimberlee has been rolled into the Team Tom Cancer Fund Drive that was launched earlier this month by former Warhawk football coach Bob Berezowitz, UW-Whitewater athletic director Paul Plinske and the longtime radio home of Warhawk football – KOOL 106.5.

It is immensely embarrassing and humbling to have such a fund drive established for me. I must admit the impact of this bout with cancer has staggered me greatly.

I want to publicly thank Bob, Paul, Jim, Shane, and my daughter Kim for the unbelievable generosity and effort in assisting in the Team Tom Cancer Fund Drive and a enormous thank you to all that have already donated or are considering donating to this fund drive. It is difficult to come up with words to express my gratitude!!

This is the kind of stuff that gets my dander up!! Everyone knows that over the past 6 - 7 years, UWW has been a dominant force in D III. The way you dismiss a team that has more wins than any D III school, and has been in the discussion as a National Power for 10 times as long is sad. If your frame of reference is so short, and you have no sense of history, remember when the fall comes, it will be hard to handle. If you want respect, give respect.

I find this humorous because I have found UWW fans to be at times overly humble. Especially last season when it seemed like they were prepping themselves for that fall you alluded to every week. The suggestion that the UWW posters/fans don't give respect to their opponents to me is laughable.

UW-La Crosse went 69 yards in 15 plays to start the game. Andy Sires hit Tony Bilderback for a 4-yard touchdown followed by a missed extra-point attempt kick for a 6-0 lead. The Eagles had 127 yards the rest of the game in last night's 24-6 loss at Division 2 Northern Michigan.

UWL starting QB Andy Sires and running back Ben Hertrampfwere both knocked out of the game with first half injuries.  According to the LAX Tribune Sires and Hertrampf are both questionable for the Eagles' next game at UW-Oshkosh on Sept. 15. He did not specify what their injuries are.

UWL's offense is averaging just 201 yards through two games.

I am saddened to see UW-L fell to D2 Northern Michigan. That would have really boosted them up this year, and what a victory for the WIAC had it happened. Although, it wasn't anything like the 84-0 beat down Oklahoma put on Savannah State last week, and that was on another scholarship team. I think UW-L represented as well as they could have, and for that, I say well done boys.

UWL's offense has only put up 2 TDs total in its first two weeks. Then again, they played against one of the better DIII defenses in the country (NCC) and a DII school....both on the road.

However, next week doesn't get much easier for them as they travel to Oshkosh. This will be the best offense they have faced this year.

If their defense is as good as it appears they should be able to keep a lot of games close. If they can put an offense together at any point this year it appears they could be dangerous.

One of LaX's main problems in recent years has been lack of an effective signal caller. They appear to really be hurting again at the position this year so far. If I'm not mistaken, Lee Brekke was originally at LaX, but not on the football team, prior to transferring to UWW. Can you confirm that voice? bw?

I can only imagine/wonder how things might have been different IF Brekke had stayed with LaX and gone out for football.  It might have changed the fortunes of two teams...just saying.  ;)

Brekke was on UWL for the 2009 season as the #3 QB.  It's a shame he transferred as I agree that the lack of an effective QB has really held the Eagles back the past few years.  Mike Butterfield last year showed some promise playing as a sophomore, but he got suspended towards the end of last season and is not back this year.  Quarterback should always be a focus in recruiting, but even more so for UWL.

I didn't see anyone talk about Wittenberg here.

;D well played.

And not much was mentioned about the Johnnies themselves, either.

My response was to a poster who came to the WIAC board boasting of a future beat-down his beloved boys would put on a WIAC team that beat the Johnnies by 28 points last year.   He was trying to stir things up. I have no problem with that.  One of his Johnny brethren seems to, though...
retagent has a big problem with the , "goes both ways," thing.  I am working on it because under that gruff exterior, I think he kind of likes me.   ;)
retagent, I worry about your blood pressure sometimes.  I am sure you have calmed down now and see that jumping all over BP for not giving due respect to the Johnnies history when it was only a reaction and response to finsleft who just did a quick drive by on the WIAC board to beat his chest and insult the Eau Claire Blugolds   To quote you, "If you want respect, give respect."     ;D

I ass - u - me d that you hung on my every post, so the 50% reference was to an earlier post about getting to half of the MIAC number of posts. I thought my context would give it away. I won't go back to 2005, but I would guess that the percentage was around 20%.

I know we on the MIAC board get into other irrelevant areas (as do many other boards) and youse guys are all about football (and personal stuff that affects one of the WIAC "family" of course) It was just a milestone I figured should be recognized.

I got what you were saying the first time around.

I think the WIAC will overtake us before long. Much of our board chatter is due to the Johnnie love fest. While there is certainly plenty of hand ringing the past few years, IMO, the board has been much more quiet as SJU has stepped out of the national picture.

If UWW continues its run, and I see no reason for them slowing down right now, the WIAC chatter will continue to increase. If SJU continues it's slump - something I'm hoping Bethel contributes to! - I think the MIAC board will slowly lose ground. Of course, it's also possible that the SJU love fest is replaced by a UST love fest...I just threw up in my mouth  :-[

The SJU "love fest" will be re-kindled like hot coals this Saturday when they administer a 1st class beat down of the Bleucheesemolds in Oh Clare. Remember, you read it here first.

2.  How far the Johnny's have fallen that they actually beat their chest at the prospect of beating Eau Claire.  Not actually beating Eau Claire mind you, just the prospect of beating them.

Now I could take exception to that!  What's EC - chopped liver?? :o

Not stirring the pot.  Just couldn't help commenting........please don't take it wrong.

^^ Yikes, busted again!!  :o

Sorta...but only by only collecting win percentages dating from 1975 on. Considering SJU's current head coach has been at the school since 1953, that's a pretty weak sauce rebuttal IMO. At the very least you should calculate the win percentages from the time Gags has been the HC there, if not going all the way back.

He was talking DIII total wins/winning %/?? which should only take it back to '73 when the first champion was crowned - although we could stretch even further to '69 when the 2 regional championships were held. No point going any further back, there was no DIII in '53. There was no mention of the coaches record. So, busted stands!!
