WOW.........this is starting to smell like a lesser team this year.  I for one will be interested in seeing how it shakes out.

It looks like 2007 all over again. A dominent Mount team and a very shakey UWW early in the season. We know how that turned out though!  ;D

The  2012 Warhawk football team has stark similarities to the 2008 Warhawks.

Back in '08 the Hawks were without Justin Beaver and Justin Jacobs who had just graduated after leading UWW to its first NCAA Division III National Championship. This season the Warhawks were faced with the prospect of replacing Levell Coppage (ranked second all-time in NCAA rushing) and Matt Blanchard (currently on the Chicago Bears practice squad).

The '08 team had all it could handle in game 2 of the season, holding on for a 16-14 win at Eau Claire in one of those in-conference, non-conference games.

I remember the talk on this board that the '08 team was good - but not good enough to get back to the "promised land."

Despite losing 17-16 to Point at mid-season the '08 Hawks made it back to Salem including road playoff wins at Willamette (Without Coppage) and Mary Hardin-Baylor.

That '08 team, who many thought were not good enough, took Mount Union to the brink before falling 31-26 in the Stagg Bowl.

I am hearing the rumbles again this year... questioning if this year's Warhawks are good enough.

Admittedly the Hawks "stubbed there toe" in the 7-6 loss to Buffalo State.   But yesterday's come from behind win at Platteville is nothing but positive.  Down 14-0 in the 1st quarter to the second highest scoring team in Division III, the Hawks showed "big game" experience by not getting flustered - staying to its game-plan, retaking the lead in the 4th quarter - then holding on for a 27-26 win.

Much like in '08, this is a team in progress and will likely get better this week.  UWW football fans are spoiled and seemingly have little patience for wins unless they are by more than 3 touchdowns.

I don't know about you but I believe in Lance Leipold's plan of attack over his remarkable coaching career and I remember that young '08 team.

OK - I'm off my soap box - man, I've got to get a life!!!

I believe 08 was the year they didn't have Danny Jones at QB. Jacobs graduated in 06.

But your point is still solid, voice

I would like to thank warhawkdad and gbman for all the updates yesterday.

I'll take the bait.  It will remind me why it's so sweet to have beaten Mount in the last three Stagg Bowls.  "Lesser team this year..."  I guess that begs a question that I'd be glad to answer for you.  Lesser than WHOM? If you are talking about the Blanchard/Coppage Warhawks of of the past couple of years the answer is simple: We don't have to play them. Even if we advance to the Stagg Bowl, we don't have to play them.  I know what leaves you hope is that Mount doesn't have to either.  Since Mount couldn't beat them, I understand your relief.  But until Mount shows they can once again beat ANY version of UW-W, one of their supporters commenting on what this smells like lies somewhere between distasteful and stupid.  (I'm really not as angry as this sounds, it's just kind of fun to rant like this  ;D)

Regardless of your sense of smell (perhaps it is simply the aroma of a skunk :) ),  the only evaluation you can make of UW-W is where they are in September.  What I do know is that as flawed as anyone may feel that team is, what they accomplished on Saturday is a ton more than beating this year's version of Ohio Northern. Oh, and the fact that the Hawks are 1-0 in the WIAC with one of their biggest tests behind them.

You're next Emma....  ;D

It must be the chemo talking. I thought I had such a good point. Hopefully I got my point across.

MY, MY, AREN'T WE TOUCHY. I GUESS AS A NEUTRAL OBSERVER, I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING NASTY IN SIDEKICKS POST. SEEING AS HOW THE WARHAWKS ALREADY LOST, AND HAD A REAL SCARE YESTERDAY, WHEN IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, THEY REALLY DIDN'T EVER SEEM TO BE THREATENED, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH MANY OF YOU ARE QUESTIONING WHETHER THEY ARE AS GOOD AS THE PAST 4  - 5 YEARS. I GUESS WHEN SOMEONE OUTSIDE THE FAMILY DOES IT, IT UPSETS YOU. NOW YOU CAN EMPATHIZE A BIT.

Sory, I accidently hit the Caps Lock, and didn't want ot go back and redo.

So St. John's fans wouldn't mind if we started stating the obvious about how their program has taken a dive the past couple of seasons? I, for one, wouldn't dream of stooping that low...I have too much respect for them.

Don't quite understand why you guys think skunks was saying anything negative about UWW. All he said was its smelling (looking) like whitewater isnt as dominate as in the past couple years. Then he said it will be interesting to see  how whitewater does the rest of the way!! Nothin negative about that :) also in skunks previous post he said, he fully expects whitewater to run the table in the wiac and that he would probably see you guys in Salem for an 8th straight year!!

Not challenged....really?  You must not remember Oshkosh last year?   Other than UWW, when was the last time UMU was challenged?   There are several really good teams in the WIAC and challenge is a good thing preparing for a playoff run.  Still looking forward to seeing my friends from UMU in Salem for the 8th year in a row.  Time will tell.

Well, he should have quit while he was ahead, then.  ;)

I wouldn't read too much anger into the response posts.  I actually think it's good (and fun) that Hawk fans are mixing it up a bit.  What skunks said may not have been over the top. I know my response was much more harsh than his original post.  That was my intent.  ;D
