A quick write-up on this week's WIAC games

The mere fact that you included a photo of The Clint ensured the greatness of this article.
Great summary and thanks for heads up on the WIAC history book.

Bleedpurple summed it up nicely.  As for the punter, UWW is fortunate to have a couple good ones- the starter doubles as the placekicker/punter.  They have been working in an Australian punter with a huge leg.  He doesn't have football (American style) experience so the staff is being cautious as to when they bring him in.

I was at the UWRF game and the punting was inconsistent, so I had to go look at the stats. In the first four games, UWW averaged 41, 53, 41, and 47 yards per punt. In the last two games, the average has been 36 and 37. Any concern for the trend?

Yes, we've been punting too much.

LOL....agreed!   8-)

Not really.  There was a 15 yard punt in the RF game which brought down the average from 42 (Gardener went for a coffin corner and ended up just coughing).  And a punt from the Stout 44 went 26 yards to a fair catch.

Wind and weather will be more of a factor the rest of the way, and averages can get funky.  Not a big concern.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I expect this weeks game to be as close as last year.  Differences.....UWW defense is better, last year Arnold was hurt, the D struggled.  UWW offense, not as explosive.  UWO, defense similar to last year, but on offense, not sure Wara has the options he had last year.

2011 team put up 31, 17, 56, 42, 23 and 24 pts in first 6 weeks.
2012 team put up 47, 16, 70, 19, 50 and 34 pts in first 6 weeks.

In fact, offense has put up more points this season than last, so far. 3 of those games came against similar opponents.

Coach C has stated numerous times this is the best team he's coached (I'm sure there isn't any coaching bias there  8-))
WarhawkDad was talking about the Whitewater offense not being as explosive....  The numbers you gave are for UWO's offensive production.

I think oshfb just highlighted the wrong section. I believe he meant to highlight the part where WarhawkDad says "not sure Wara has the options he had last year."

You're dead on. Win or lose Saturday UWO is still making the playoffs.

Lose and Whitewater might be sh*t out of luck. I know that BS loss isn't a regional game, but it still kills our chances.

I'm not sure this is a given.  UW-O has lost the game immediately following UW-W each of the last 5 years.

I know. I'm always the last to drink the opposing team's Kool Aid.  I'll try to take a sip, but I'm not pre-ordering any black and yellow conference championship or playoff t-shirts just yet.

:) good stuff. But I do believe it will be different for the Titan this year after UWW. If the Titans lose a regular season game post UWW I will buy you a brand new Titan yellow and black outer garment.

figured I would stop by and say hi to my UWW friends.  seems like you guys have a good one coming up this weekend.  As an outsider, how much better was Oshkosh than Platteville?  Did the QB loses hurt Platteville that much from the Whitewater game.  Reading your posts, what seems to be the main issue with the offense?  As usual it seems like you have a strong defense and I believe that I read a post that mentioned your punter which if I remember you always have a good one.  Nice to read your chatter here, gets me through the week when Wesley plays a non D3 team, plus no one really chats much during the week over there.  Good luck this week, I will be interested to see the score upon my return from Salisbury, heading down there for the E8 tilt between them and Alfred U.  Too bad a drive to Wisconsin is a little far for me because it would at least give me more good game to go see during the year.
Welcome, WD, glad to see the boy are treating you well.  ;)  I will be interested in your assessment of the Alfred/Salisbury game when you get back.  I have used several of the E8 games the last few weeks in our national game picks in the WIAC pick em's and would love a first hand view from someone who sees a couple of the conference's top teams up close and personal. Good luck to the Wolverines this weekend.

I'm not sure 10,000 quiet people will have any effect whatsoever- other than making for a memorable image in the players' minds when they look up into the stadium.
Let's face it, the pressure IS on UWW.  I'm not a big believer in the whole "our number one goal is to win the conference" theory.  IMO every team's number one goal should be to make the playoffs.  UWO doesn't need to win the conference to get into the playoffs- they should be able to make it with a 9-1 record.  If UWW loses, not looking so good.  The positive side of this is that UWW has played in at least 35 "win or go home" games since 2005- that's a lot of practice for must win games.

Looking at the UWO depth chart, it's mostly a Jr/Sr team. So, they've been to UWW, they're familiar with the facilities, and they've seen the big crowd. If the game is close, the crowd will be quiet. The players on the field won't even notice the crowd. If the crowd is loud - that will probably mean that UWW is playing well and UWO isn't.
This wouldn't be my prediction.  If the game is close, both crowds will be engaged, I would imagine.  If UWW is playing well and UWO isn't........... well, many in the crowd on our side will be sitting on their hands, thinking it is just business as usual.  >:(

Nice! Looking forward to it.  Don't forget, Emma. Last year was different, too.

Since Oshkosh's impressive win over UW-P (and it was impressive), I thought I would provide some perspective that hasn't really been provided on the boards, yet. Beating UW-P by 21 points doesn't necessarily mean the Titans are better than last year's version.

UW-P vs UW-O

This year: UW-O wins by 21
Last year: UW-O won by 21

UW-P Total yards this year: 349
UW-P Total yards last year: 188

UW-P First Downs this year: 22
UW-P First Downs last year:  8

UW-O Total yards this year: 429
UW-O Total yards last year: 400

UW-O First Downs this year: 20
UW-O First Downs last year: 16

Either large or extra-large would be great.  ;)

The MVP of this offensive surge by UW-O has to be....the schedule maker.  UW-O has scored 43 more points than they did last  year at this point.  This year they scheduled Alma instead of Mount Union.  They scored 53 points more this year against Alma than they did against Mount last year.  Therefore, in the other games they have scored 10 points less than they did last year.

I'm looking foward to my foray to Wisconsin this weekend for the Homecoming festivities At UW-Whitewater.  Please tell me it's not going to snow.  I know there was snow the other year at Salem, but honest it wasn't my fault.  I have to drive in from Milwaukee and I'm nervous about the white stuff.  Does the team have open practice
thursdays and Fridays?  I 'll be getting to Whitewater Thursday afternoon and would like to watch practice if it is possible.  That would keep me from going shopping too much though I must go to the bookstore and get tshirts for my brothers.  Their Linfield ones are getting ragged.   Hoping to see many of you at the tail-gating Saturday am and at the game.  I'll be the one in pink with the southern drawl.

Onlinemom was welcomed with open arms by the Warhawk football team and coaching staff on her arrival to Whitewater this afternoon..  O-Linemom was formally introduced to the team as she was brought up on the hill to join the offense in their weekly "pound the rock" post practice foray.  Midway thru the series of players getting their crack at the rock - Onlinemom was asked to take her turn slinging the maul at the rock. Being UWW's official Stagg Bowl grandma the past seven years she attacked the rock with the same tenacity as she does in the D3football.com West Region Chat Room.  The team plans to make O-Linemom's weekend in Whitewater extra special.

That is true about Mount --> Alma...good catch.  So they've scored on average 2 less points per game. I'd say the schedule maker putting UWO against Mount and Central (when they were strong couple years ago) has paid dividends as it did for UWW in early 2000's (2003 and 04 maybe?). Great job schedule maker.

Oh, and I don't care how many points the Titans put up this week as long as it is more than UWW  ;D
