OK WIAC fans, I need a great bar/tavern/food joint....a place that serves liquor and food in Stevens Point that is open around 10 a.m.   Great bloody mary's would be nice.  Any thoughts?
Partners Pub is a mere 5 blocks walking from Goerke Field.  They have a website.  Good food, sports bar, very roomy if you have a party and you want to congregate together.  And I beleive they are open early.  Hilltop is good also, but more of a restaurant and not easy to congregate IF I remember correctly.  It's been many years and things could have changed.

There is a field where you can tailgate, just south of the stadium at the corner of Main and Minnesota.  Lots of Pointer fans, but we were welcomed in our Eau Claire garb.  It was a beautiful fall day last Saturday.  The stadium is nice.  Hilltopper is nice too.

Bloody Mary's at 10:am! You'd fit right in at the CatDome. Although we are usually pouring the Long Islands by then.  8-)

Well, last weekend's experience has finally sunk in.  I don't know where to start first.  The game I witnessed showed that Oshkosh was the better team that afternoon, offensively, defensively and on the special teams for the most part.  I didn't expect that, having seen practice on Thursday.  But what happened Thursday didn't show up on the field. For a lot of the game, many of our guys seemed to be a step short and several seconds behind like everything was in slow motion and they couldn't quite grasp what was happening on the field.  Oshkosh had an excellent game plan which they executed.  Our team knew it was a crucial game, but couldn't get themselves in the sharp focus they needed to compete as they normally do. They looked dazed, in a fog.  I've seen it before in important games where BC has gone into a trance and when they come out of it, shake themselves off, it's too late.  I know this is not in football terms, but run that game back in your mind's eye and notice what the players were doing just before the plays were called and, more importantly, afterward.  FOG.  They were not there mentally.
Now after the game, I spoke to a bunch of my OLiners and they were matter-of-fact about the game; they told me the other team was better that afternoon; and they needed to go back and work with more intensity for the next game.  They were not hanging their heads.  They took it as men and I was proud of their attitude.  They weren't blaming anybody.  They were so much more composed than a lot of the adults in the parking lot.  They were already looking forward, a very constructive way to handle the situation.
On another note, I had a wonderful trip to Whitewater.  I want to thank everybody for making my trip so memorable.  I enjoyed the experience of watching practice Thursday afternoon.  It is so different than what is done at BC (wish my coaches could see how it's done at UWW!).  I was quite unprepared for the singular honor of pounding the rock at the end of practice.  The coaches snuck that in.  It was exhilirating as the players were pounding away with the sledge hammer and then I heard my name.  My first thought was, What if I can't lift the sledge hammer?  What if I miss the rock and hit my leg?  But the guys were all yelling and hollaring so I went out and took hold of it. Damn, it was heavy.  I got it about 2 inches above my head and, TBTG, actually managed to hit the rock with a little puff of dust resulting and scurried back out of the circle.  Only then did I think about the rotator cuff tears that I have in both shoulders, which are still giving me trouble!!!!  But it was worth it.  It's a memory I'll always treasure. After the ceremony, I renewed acquaintance with the OLiners that I already knew and met a few new ones.  I had been studying the names and faces of all the OLiners on the plane as well as the 2-deep offense and defense teams fo the game.
On Saturday am I was able to park in the tail-gate area thanks to Coach Brez and joined Football Fan 413 and her tail-gate crowd for chili and the fixings.  Got to see AJ.  I remember how the Linebackers just flew around during the 2007 season (LaCrosse, anyone?  what a play!)  I had some fabulous brisket a row over.  I tried to walk around to see as many people as possible.  Even ran into U DubDub (Justin Jacobs' room-mate) from whom I had gotten Tshirts I could never have shown my Mom!!! Saw Jimmy Norris' s parents, Matt Blanchard's parents, the Hansens, Matt G's Mom.  But I couldn't bring any brownies.  The TSA people don't even allow water thru the check-in process.  they certainly don't allow brownies. I enjoyed myself so much that I was still there at 6 when most people had packed up and left.  I finally went back to the hotel and rested all day Sunday, watching football.  Granted I had to watch Green Bay instead of Washington, but then the late great Henry Jordan from Virginia played for Green Bay. You're all too young to remember him, I'm sure, but he was WONDERFUL!  Then I got to watch my San Francisco Giants win their way into the World Series where they are 2 - 0 so far.  What can I say? I know Buster Posey and I have to cheer for people I know, right?
All in all, I had a fabulous time at UWW and I want to come again!  So I will begin saving for another trip!  Thanks for everything!!

As long as you can guarantee the same results, I'm sure we can take up a collection to fund your trip.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Sounds to me Mount fans are a little relieved UWW won't be in the playoffs this year. That elusive 11th title has been hard to get the past few years ;)

Kehresma

I think that's true, '02. Even more, this Mount fan is excited that we're fielding the team we are this year to possibly  face a final with Whitewater, Oshkosh or whomever. Looking forward to a test from Heidi today on a wet field. Stay healthy, friends!

Fun fact on the UWO defense this season....

Going into today, they have more takeaways (14) than TD's allowed (12.)

What little chance Whitewater had of earning an at-large bid is gone after Stevens Point defeats the Warhawks 17-14.  Whitewater missed a FG early in the 4th quarter and had another one blocked with just over 1:00 remaining in the 4th quarter.

I like to think that I have been paying attention this year but somehow I missed that this was Point's first WIAC win of the season...

Question now is whether they'll be regionally ranked to help out Oshkosh's seeding?

Really? A 3 loss team should be regionally ranked? Sorry, No. UWW could easily be a 4 loss team (1 point win against UWP).

I would think that if another WIAC team was to be Regionally Ranked, it would be 6-2 Platteville.

Out of region games aren't supposed to count in the regional rankings.  And UWW has the H2H advantage over Platteville.  I doubt Whitewater will be ranked, but it would have really helped Oshkosh's chances of getting a #1 seed if they were.

This was a bad loss for UWW. In September, UWW beat UWSP 34-7. UWSP now has 2 wins for the season, and they finish with Oshkosh and Platteville. For Whitewater to lose to UWSP is a very low point. Whitewater should drop out of the top 25, and perhaps not receive any votes this week.

Benn there, and know how it feels. Only empathy from this quarter.
