The UW-Oshkosh juggarnaut rolled into La Crosse today and smashed an overmatched UWL squad. The score was 41-7, but could have been worse with the Titans outclassing the Eagles on both sides of the ball. Congratulations to them and their fans on a great game and a breakthrough season. You have an impressive team. This game shows how far La Crosse has to go to return to the top of the WIAC, and it is a steep climb. BTW, what the heck happened at Goerke Field ?

The Box Score doesn't show Brekke with any stats and he isn't listed on the Participation Report.

As far as good old playful bantering goes, I think this board is the tamest. You should read St. Johns/St. Thomas fans go at it on the MIAC board. Some other good ones are: Linfield/Willamette fans in the NWC, NCC/Wheaton fans in the CCIW and MHB/HSU fans in the ASC.

Non-UWW WIAC fans shouldn't feel threatened when posting here. It's all in good fun. However, UWW fans may be a bit on edge this year (for obvious reasons)...including myself.

Don't forget Wabash/DePauw. Those guys even go off the main board and start a separate thread just for trash-talk every year before their rivalry game.

I was about ready to reply when I saw HSC Tiger's comments.  The Monon Bell thread is venomous.  Last year, Pat shut it down for a while when it went too far (references to Jerry Sanduskey were way out of line).  When you have some spare time (or for a few laughs), look under General Football and read the posts for the 117 Monon Bell or 118 Monon Bell games.  With DePauw's putrid record this year, the rhetoric may be at record low levels - but not the pure hatred that schools have for each other.

couch... I'm just back from Point.  Behrendt quarterbacked the whole way for UWW. Brekke was the holder on all Warhawk extra point and field goal attempts.   Not sure why the official stats do not include his name.

Because as weird as it is, according to college football statistical rules, holding for an extra point or field goal does NOT constitute participation in the game. I've never known why (and some schools ignore or are unaware of the quirk) but that's the way it is. If you played a whole season and only held for placekicks, you technically would not have played at all.

It's "Basic Interpretation 7" in the NCAA Statistician's Manual:

7. GAME PLAYED—
Exceptions: If a player appears in a game only to hold the ball on kick attempts, he is not charged with a game played. If, however, he becomes statistically involved (e.g., runs, passes or kicks after an aborted kick attempt, recovers a fumble, or makes a tackle) he is charged with a game played.

So what happened?  It seems last loss UWW fans thought Brekke shouldered a lot of the blame from all the posts I saw.   Now Brekke doesn't play and UWW loses to the only team that hasn't got a win yet.  I didn't see the game and stats don't tell everything.  Any insight?  I don't think anyone saw this coming.
02 had wrote in his blog that UWEC may have found their stride, and i was going to point out that UWRF and Stout had beat UWSP more soundly than the Blugolds beat SP, and it looked to me like perhaps UWSP was finding its stride.  Are they?

UWW dominated the stats game. Didn't listen  so I don't know what the problem was. They did have a couple turnovers. Someone who was there will have to fill you in.

12 penaties for 99 yards OUCH!!

Just to show that statistics don't always tell the story...
Whitewater outgained Stevens Point 436 yards to 275 while running off 83 plays to the Pointer's 56. The Hawks held a decisive 37:06 to 22:51 time of possession advantage

voice, i was thinking the same thing when i looked at the stats.  everything points to a uww win despite the penalties and to's, although 1 was returned for a td.  i know the posters have been concerned about the offense and again today it seems like despite the TOP and yardage advantage uww could not score.  i will be interested to hear from those at the game as to what happened.

Every time we got something going we shot ourselves in the foot.  Either a penalty, a mental mistake or a missed assignment.  It was always something.    Then we gave up a pic6 and a fumble that was returned to our 12 yard line.  The defense held the Pointers to a field goal that time but there is only so much the defense can do.

Plus we got beat over the top on the 89 yard touchdown pass.  Platteville beat us deep once, Oshkosh beat us deep once and now Point has.

I don't want to take anything away from the Pointers.  They came to play and, particularly in the first half, played with an intensity that we didn't match.  Their defense may have given up a lot of yards but when they had to make a big play more often than not they made it.

Question now is whether they'll be regionally ranked to help out Oshkosh's seeding?

Really? A 3 loss team should be regionally ranked? Sorry, No. UWW could easily be a 4 loss team (1 point win against UWP).

Ironically we could just as easily be a one loss team.  One point to BSU and 3 points to Point.   But in the final analysis we are what we are, a three loss team.

What bothers me the most, is this place is going to turn into a ghost-town by the middle of November with Whitewater missing the postseason....

This season still "refreshing" for u, Emma? Or should UWW continue to lose  ;D ;)

Still a historical run...which in my opinion started off with a huge win over Linfield that many Catdome fans believe to be one of the best D3 playoff games ever played, even though we lost.  Sorry we won't get a chance to take you guys on this year as the Cats seem to be getting more special every weekend.
