What does "transitioning to a full time student" mean? Is that a tough transition?  :-) He should be in Oregon, Washington, or Colorado where a Nov. 6 vote will decide recreational use of pot is legal. It's coming, folks.

I don't think they will make the decision on the top four seeds based solely on the map like that. We'll know more next week when we see the results of UWO/UWSP and UST/Moorhead on each team's SOS.

Hopefully, the map will have nothing to do with it (maybe unrealistic). I know the NCAA has to keep expenses in control, but when it comes to the top seeds, going with the four best teams in the country produces the best brackets (IMO). Whether that is St. Thomas or UW-O, whichever one is deserving regardless of the map, is the one I would like to see them go with.

It's fine to create the "best brackets" for someone sitting at home watching games on their laptop. But, it's a 4 hour ride from UWO to UST. For fans of visiting teams, it makes it more difficult to attend the games. Especially for 2nd and 3rd round games, I think you'd want to make it easier for fans to attend the games. People may be willing to drive 3-4 hours for a game, but not 7-8.

I was thinking more of competitive balance and giving teams the seeds they earned, not laptop entertainment value, when I said "best brackets".  The Top 4 teams being #1 seeds seems like a great start in trying to make sure teams are given the draw they earned on the field.  I acknowledge there are travel and expense issues to weigh as well.

Believe or not that measure is struggling in Oregon.  I don't think it will pass in Oregon but will in Washington and Colorado.

....btw...I voted yes.  Want the tax revenues!!!!

Ok I'm  sorry, but the Coppege story is the biggest thing in three years.

I think RF will win Saturday. They've been playing good of late.

Janesville paper reports Levelle Coppage arrested.

How about "part two the rest of the story "  Paul ?

Very disappointing.  While a school cannot be responsible for choices their students make, this kind of publicity is not anything a program wants.  Coppage=Whitewater.
I was puzzled by one thing.  The UWW official stated that Coppage was transitioning to a full time student or some such verbage.  Are part time students eligible to play football?

Yea, that's disappointing to hear this about him. But he should get what he deserves for doing something stupid like this.

I took "transitioning to a full-time student" to mean transitioning from being a student-athlete to being only a student. Kind of like the struggles of a newly retired professional athlete, but on a much smaller scale.

You do have to have a minimum of 12 credits to play sports, unless you a) are in your final semester and don't need 12 credits to graduate or b) are a graduate student or c) have a documented learning disability and have received an NCAA waiver to take fewer than 12 credits.

I have seen this applied at a number of schools, but the point has not been discussed much (or I missed it) when talking about an athlete coming back for a 5th year. A number of people ask the question "why would you pay $xx,xxx just to play one more year of football?" Take one class/live off campus & the economics make a lot more sense!

I knew of a student-athlete who needed just one class in her final semester to graduate, and it happened to be a very basic freshman-level public speaking course that somehow she had just neglected to take earlier. So she went to her one class three times a week, got a paid internship in her chosen career field, and played her sport. Ended up making money, got an A without too much extra work, and played her senior year. I thought that must have been the greatest semester of college ever.

While I don't agree with this over simplification of UWW athletes, the UWW administration, for at least a short time, will have to work on a public perception problem that they are home to thieves, thugs, and druggies.  Hopefully there won't be another incident and they can get this behind them.  We all know these type of things also happen in the general student population and those events aren't considered newsworthy.  Success comes with a cost.

This is all a developing story so I will keep my opinions to myself for once.
But you raise a good point about perception.  It's never too soon to work on nipping the negative in the bud (or butt).  Maybe it's time for some Justin Beaver promotion.  At least it's his mug on the giant mural on the side of the pressbox.
