I thought for sure Brekke would see the field being senior day and all....but I guess not. Behrendt still has a lot to learn, starting with not throwing the ball to the other team.

The defense filled up the box score. 7 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, forced fumble and an int. McLin got another pick...he's going to be something special the next couple of years.

Emma: you'll be happy to see that kindler went 4-4 on FGs, and punting duties was left exclusively to Gardener today. Although UWW only punted once  ;D

Missed you today 02.  Although the score doesn't really show it, the offense did a pretty good job of moving the chains.  I was surprised to see Behrendt only had 124 yards.  He made some impressive throws on sideline routes.  The first interception wasn't too big a deal, it was 3rd down and forever.  The second was not so good-into the arms of a D lineman under blitz pressure.  His scrambling ability is a big plus.  No deep throws that I can remember.

I look forward to the day when UWW puts slant and crossing routes into their passing game, it will help the QB and offense a ton.

Emma - you seem extremely knowledgable on the X's and O's of football. You must be a former player.  UWW is always searching for top assistant coachesl I think you should apply!

LOL, I would vote for that!   But I think Emma might have to take a cut in pay. Also, it would really cut into his tailgating experience.  8-)

Get the boosters to step up with the salary part. Re:tailgating, he would just have to cut it short but could introduce "tailgaters' keys to the game" to the coaches before the game! ;D

Thanks Voice.  It's not any special knowledge I have though, it's just that my eye sight is pretty good.

I was going to suggest you draw it up on a napkin and hand it to Lance at QB Club on Wednesday. Then you could put the rest of what you know about football on the other side.
;D

(Totally kidding...I know you know a lot, but couldn't resist the one liner!)

A napkin huh- that's a lot of space for a simpleton like me to fill up.  Besides, I think my demonstration of frustration at the passing game Saturday might have got my name scratched off the invited list.

I realize most everyone that reads the boards has football knowledge and the idea of a slant route isn't new.  I did find a pretty cool website though that actually measures the success of different routes.  You Packerites might find the bottom of the page especially interesting regarding Rogers use of the Slant Route (does the Packer game get broadcast in UWW?)  https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/07/23/2011-route-efficiency-slants/

Usually there is risk associated with reward- it's how you reduce the risk that makes the difference.

Good point, DOC. Then what's the point of Whitewater even trying to get better?  ::)

So, lets assume the season is over and a the 2012 Stagg Bowl Champion is crowned.   What happens to the WIAC next year.   How do you think the top 4 or 5 will rank out in 2013.   At least for me, preseason, pre-recruiting, based solely on who is coming back.  it is this way.

Yeah, they lose Neu and Goetsch, among others.  But they still have Sweeney and another promising back in McDonald.  Plus their whole receiving corp is intact.  A lot will depend on how the qb situation shapes up.  I don't know much about 2nd string qb, but he will be a junior so he has had two years to learn the ropes and could step in for a smooth transition.  Although when you have a departing senior qb, there is also the possibility of a transfer or two with hopes of getting the job so nothing is certain.  UWP has 3 - perhaps they could spare one  8-)

I think your order makes very good sense.  Maybe UWEC over Point.
It would be fun if recruiting classes were graded. We could learn a lot from seeing how UWO benefits from a successful season.

UWP will definitely have the offense to possibly be the favorite in the WIAC next season. If they can improve defensively they can easily be the Oshkosh of next season.

UWW has a large chunk returning on both sides of the ball. They will once again have the best linebackers in the country. However, their offensive line will be their biggest concern. They started the year with five starting senior olineman....all of which of course will graduate.

UWSP might make the biggest jump. They have a lot of young players on the team right now. Including a very tallented (and young) group on linebackers.

UWRF's two best players are arguably a pair of freshman, and they will only improve over the next couple of seasons.  They still have a long way to go, but there are a few peices in place. A new stadium wouldn't hurt either.

I'll have to do a little more research in the off season, so I can give a more detailed response (probably in my blog) in the spring time for all the teams.

I'm sure you travelled far and wide, and have seen all 230 (or so) linebacker corps, but really???

I believe they have the deepest (top 4 LBs) in dIII right now. Three of those four are only juniors.

What would you accept?

Best linebackers in the WIAC?   One of the top linebacking corp in the nation?  ;D 8-) LOL, really does not make a difference, it is 02 Warhawks opinion just like the ranking I did was my opinion.   Although I will tell you that 02 watches and researches alot of D3 football.

I won't say our linebackers will be the best in the nation but I will say that they are going to be among the best linebacker grouping in the nation.

That's what I was trying to portray. Best "grouping" of LBs in the nations, as a whole. I'll be foolish to say the top three LBs are all on one team.

And WarhawkDad, I wouldn't worry about retagent. I've come to the conclusion that he enjoys coming here and throwing (verbal) grenades to just stir the pot a bit.  But thanks for getting my back!  ;D
