I have been watching this board over the past week and it seems like many believe Oshkosh is coming in as the underdog.  Personally, I don't know a lot about Linfield, other than their field is called the "Catdome", so I went looking for some numbers to compare.  In my opinion (and I know games are not played on paper!), Oshkosh will fare just fine against Linfield this weekend and will make it to the Final Four.

Notable National ranks:
Rush offense (rainy forecast): Osh 14th, Lin140th
Total offense: Osh 9th, Lin 32nd
Scoring offense: Osh 11th, Lin 7th
Total defense: Osh 25th, Lin 29th
TO margin (wet conditions with a team that loves to sling it around): Osh 11th, Lin 45th
Sacks: Osh 23rd, Lin 1st
Sacks allowed: Osh 68th, Lin 116th

Obviously there are other categories not listed, but I think these listed (especially rush offense and TO margin) are most crucial to Oshkosh coming out with a win.  My official prediction: Oshkosh 28- Linfield 14 (please feel free to respond!)
I will be very shocked if the Cats only score 14 pts.  Aside from that, I expect a battle.

Mcat,

I think he means the Cats BIG D will score 14 too.. 8-)

Go Cats
Go BIG D

Gig has been carrying on all week that Linfield will have this game in the bag at halftime.

Linfield could be playing the Packers tomorrow and GHC would say Linfield would have it in the bag by half.

Perhaps Oshkosh will begin a tradition tomorrow.

This is the tradition they are up against. LINFIELD seniors were freshman when they got to be part of this....

Completely irrelevant, why is it called the Catdome???

The exact origin of Maxwell Field/Memorial Stadium being called the 'Catdome isn't in concrete on who, why, or when it started.  I believe (could be wrong) that is started in the late 80's (if not earlier) as I know it was around before I started playing at Linfield (1994).

I have two theories on how it started.  The first is that Maxwell field was well known to be a terrible mud pit late in the season and those Linfield teams thrived in those conditions.  Dome teams in NFL were always talked about having an advantage playing inside so it could be the Linfield players decided that the muck and mud was their dome advantage and that morphed into "Catdome".  My other theory (which might be more spot on) is that Linfield and PLU played a couple of big regular season games in the Tacoma Dome that were wildly popular in the late 80's/early 90's.  Maybe Linfield players started to call the Tacoma Dome the "Cat Dome" in order to get ready for the game and the nickname just stuck.

There is no real definition of what "Catdome" is.  You could be referring to the actual facility/location (yes, we know there isn't a dome) or you could be talking about being a part of the Linfield Family.  In reality, it's shorthand for all things Linfield Football...the streak, championships, team, doing things the right way, etc, etc.

The Cats have played in a couple of heavy rain games so far this year. Makes no difference, they can and will still pitch and catch it.

Hey Ole Gun Slinger - you must remember that Osh put up the lion's share of those numbers against the weak sisters in the WIAC. ;)

On another note, the field where Winona Stae University plays was called Maxwell Field as well. Don't know if it still has that name.

If you're serious ret, I call BS on that statement.  UWO did just fine agaist UWW and UWP.  And although it was last season, they put up over 400 yards vs. Mt.
Of course none of this guarantees their production tomorrow, but UWO has moved the ball against good teams.
I'm curious if Linfield will have more speed than UWO is used to handling this year.  You'd think UWW was as fast a defense as UWO will see, but who knows?

Just a brief update, so as to not take away the focus from UW-Oshkosh's task tomorrow, but since it was discussed here:

http://www.capitalbay.com/headline/274677-todd-hoffner-judge-dismisses-case-against-football-coach-accused-of-making-porn-videos-for-having-naked-footage-of-his-three-kids.html

For those who are curious, sfury posted a Star Tribune link in the MIAC forum, which has generated some good discussion there...

Emma, my read is that our friend is saying that the WIAC in totality ARE weak sisters, rather than saying UW-O built up stats against lower echelon WIAC teams.  You know, the whole WIAC is overrated thing. I think he was kidding, kind of...

Thats right 413--  You got my number

And on that note

Inns throws for 400 tomorrow
The Salty D causes 4, thats right 4 turnovers including a pick 6 in the 3rd quarter.

Cats are up by 17 at the half.

Phone it in boys

The G5 is warming up out back, loaded with salt, purple frisbees and ole Blue.

Lets do this

Catdome-- all day every day !!!!

Now this is just silliness GHC...There is a difference between optimism and delusion.

If any ONE of these three things happen (the things in bold), I will send you a brand new UW-W cap to wear on days you are feeling especially nostalgic.  ;)
