Since it's nearing Christmas, I will again provide my motivations. I'm just here to try to get you to understand that the WIAC is not the Alpha and Omega of D III football. I realize that all of us get a little parochial at times, and I know it's a natural inclination to believe that "OUR" team(s) have some magical thing that make them superior. I just try to help you keep things in perspective. Hopefully, in a humorous way.

As far as my feeling toward the WIAC -  I am a transplant, but I can't leave my long held loyalties elsewhere. Ever since UWW drubbed my Johnnies in 2005, and beat them again in successive years, I have a respect for all things WIAC, but I do like to see them get taken down a notch every now and then. I feel the same way about UMU. I would like nothing better than to see a UST/UMHB tilt this year. Just to shake things up. It's not a hate, but a grudging respect.

Huh??  What you been smoking??!!

just kidding!!  We all have our loyalties and respect for opponents.  That's what makes it interesting.  8-)

Is there a conference that's the Alpha and Omega in D3 football?

That's kind of how I feel about...ahem... the Bears.  And I would feel the same way if I moved to Chicagoland.  While I do respect them, as rivals, I definitely want them to be "taken down a notch every now and then".  And while I go back and forth with Bears fans (not as much on these boards as in my non-online life), I have always known deep inside that we have more in common than we are different. Once an allegiance is formed with a team, school, or conference, it is my nature to keep that allegiance regardless of where I would be transplanted.  I think WIAC fans have the same grudging respect for the Johnnies as well.  But it makes the board more fun to have to you and to have the back and forth.

Also, I don't think any WIAC fans expect you to think of the WIAC as the Alpha and Omega of D-III football.  Just the Alpha is fine...   ;D

I realize that UWW won the last three Staggs, but with Mt. Union at the top and Wilmington at the bottom I'd vote (respectfully, of course) for the OAC.

I'm an OAC guy and even I wouldn't rank us higher than the 4th or 5th best conference.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

That might be the first time I've ever read someone listing Wilmy as one of the reasons the OAC is the top conference! Respectfully, of course, that's CRAZY! They were outscored 444-91.

I think this is a reason why the OAC is NOT at the top.

It must be getting close to Christmas, with all the good will flowing back and forth. I, too, love the back and forth, and hope that our teams remain relevant, since that is what spurs the lively dicussions. Luv ya guys!

Oh dear. Not much in the way of classic greek or religious interpretation classes guys? Alpha and Omega refers to the first and LAST letter of the Greek alphabet. So the phrase alpha and omega can be taken 2 ways. One as a synonym for "be all and end all" which is usually the way a pastor refers to it from the Book of Revelations. I think that is how most of you are thinking of it in this context, but it is also understood as "the first and the last".

If you treat it as "the first and the last" then the OAC could be the Alpha and Omega because UMU is clearly the best over a long period of time and Wilmington is somewhere near the bottom...

And that skips a whole lot of the contextual nuances that point to one interpretation or the other.
