Is there any reading between the lines form the last paragraph in the JS Online story??

"UW-Whitewater coach Lance Leipold, a former graduate assistant at UW, attended practice."

Interesting. Obviously it could be nothing at all as I know LL has had a good relationship w Alvarez for many years. It could also be something for the same reason.
I'd be surprised if it had to do with the head coach position, but not surprised if it involved a different coaching role.

Alvarez or the new coach couldn't do anything wrong getting a guy like LL on the Badger staff.  He's  young, a proven winner, knows the state HS coaches has run a good program.  For LL I think it would be step up the ladder more $$ and a better position to transition to another job.

I agree Palum.  As nice as it would be for LL to be the long time coach for UWW, I certainly understand the desire to advance and I wouldn't hold that against him in the least bit.  It's got to be quite a change going from coaching at scholarship schools and bigger budgets to the D3 world, which is what LL did.
Who knows.

I would be surprised if an appearance at a practice had anything to do with any coaching role at UW.  My guess is that he is welcome to the Badgers' practices because of his relationship with Barry, period. At some point in the Wisconsin hiring process, could Lance be considered for a job? Of course!  But if Wisconsin is going to move forward in their hiring process in a healthy way, the head coach needs to be hired first and then play a role in hiring the assistants.  Even if LL were being considered for the head coach position, making a public appearance at a practice during the process would be highly unusual if not unprecedented.

I tend to agree with BP.  Too many assistants are leaving and whoever they hire will most likely want to start with their own staff.  If that includes LL it will be the new coach's decision and not Barry's.  Given that a new coach hasn't been hired yet I don't think LL's appearance at a practice is a sign of his impending hire.

Maybe he's just picking up some coaching pointers from the master.

What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I agree with all that nothing serious should be read into LL at a UW practice.
But it's fun to talk about what ifs.
For instance, what if the head coach is already known by BA (cool initials for a coach) and that head coach is considering LL on staff. It would help LL to watch practice for multiple reasons.
Or perhaps LL is considering a move away from coaching and into AD stuff.

I'm bored w that subject already.
Question- is a top recruit more or less likely to come to UWW this offseason?

I wouldn't object to a solid transfer coming to Whitewater next season. There is plenty of open competition for them on the offense (i.e. Oline, QB, RB).

Any thoughts on the Badgers hiring Gary Andersen from Utah State as their new HC?

It seems like a good choice, following the tradition of having defensive minded head coaches.  The most interesting part is who they will bring in to run the offense, as Andersen's teams at Utah State have been spread and we all know that Barry won't have that.

The interesting part to me is how little the local media talks about how many guys turned him down. Barry and UW have those guys wrapped around their finger.

Seems like a good guy- UW can use some improvement on D- just leave our Borland alone.
Article says he's bringing most of his assistants- I wonder what spots are open.

Who all turned Barry down?  I heard Chris Petersen from Boise and Al Golden from Miami both did, but who else do you know of?
