I don't know why I even wasted time arguing about the level of fighting in the NHL and defending my distaste for it.  I should have just sat back and let you hockey fans reminise.    :) :D
Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Carry on.............................. 8-)

I'm enjoying this...Not much DIII football to talk about these days anyways  ;)

Any update on the former UWW player who signed a "future" contract with the Jets? Did that happen?

I'm not sure if I'm aware of a Jets signing? Blanchard (again) signed a futures contract with the Bears.

Edit: Duh...that's right. Lane Olson got a work out with the Jets.

It's interesting how most team sports have a version of the enforcer role.  It's couched in the idea that the enforcer protects his teammates- and to an extent he does.  But it's getting into an opponent's psyche that has the impact. Get the opponent thinking about:
1) getting blindsided center ice
2) getting bent in half crossing the middle
3) getting upended driving the lane
4) getting a fast ball to the head
... That just might reduce concentration ever so slightly.

Not trying to change the subject- but I like the way the new rule in the NFL is going regarding defenseless players. I think the rule will encourage proper tackling while reducing serious injuries.
More sports that hockey have players on teams who become enforcers within the rules and sometimes outside of the rules.  Football does, soccer does, and yes even basketball.   Bill Cartwright, Bulls Center, always made anyone pay who tried to drive the lane....and if you took out one of his teammates, then next time through the lane, you were toast.

Anyone see that UWO players Tim Filter (CB), Taylor Goodman (ILB), Brandon Peter (RT), Nate Smith (DT) and Ben Strehlow (Center) all played yesterday in the inaugural "The Dream Bowl" which is the NCAA D-III All-Start Game?

No other WIAC players were on the roster which was surprising to me.

Can't find any results of the game.

And I think there was only 1 Mount player on it as well.

Looks like it contained players primarily from the East/South

Whitewater has a new quarterback's coach. Andy Kotelnicki is coming from D-2 University of Mary (Bismark ND), where he served as the Marauders' offensive coordinator for 2011 and 2012.

Prior to joining the University of Mary staff in January 2011, Kotelnicki worked at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.  He served as the special teams coordinator and defensive backfield coach in 2006, then switched sides of the ball to take the offensive coordinator position for 2007.  He continued in that role, adding the title of assistant head coach in 2010, guiding the Falcons' school record setting offensive transformation.

Kotelnicki replaces HT Kinney who left UWW last week to become co-offensive coordinator at D2 Missouri Southern in Joplin, Missouri

While we're talking coaching...

Former UWO player Mike Budziszewski has been named Offensive Coordinator at Presentation College.

This is exciting news. I hope to see some differences in the offensive plan.

Kinney's time at UWW was short lived (1 Year). So will Meich take over as Recruiting Coordinator then?

It is one of many All-Star games. There is no "the NCAA D-III All-Star Game" in that sense.
These all-star games concern me.  They really seem to be little more than attempts to sell tickets to venues that have little else to put in them.  #65 got an invite to one to play this February......after not having put on the pads since November.  And he/we have the priveledge of paying $600 to them for travel, lodging etc.....     And really, what do they do for the athlete, other than a trip and meeting some new people?  Everyone recognizes that a D3 player has limited chance to go pro, will this help them with a future career?   Does anyone regulate these or endorse them?

Interesting...I always wondered how those worked (especially at the DIII level). That's one expensive pickup football game.

That helps explain the abundance of east coast players that attend these games. Players from the west coast have no interest in paying for a cross-country trip to participate in a meaningless game.

These games to me should always come with a "buyer beware" tag.

UWL's 2013 schedule has been posted, and as usual, it is a doozy. They open at home against Dubuque, which went 5-5 in 2012, but has greatly improved over the past several years. North Central visits next. They will be looking for revenge for the upset they suffered at La Crosse's hands last September. A visit to D-2 Missouri S and T rounds out the non-con slate. The conference schedule kicks off with a visit from the Warhawks, who also visited La Crosse last season. This is followed by a trip to defending champion Oshkosh. Even a good WIAC team could be facing 0-5 with such a schedule. In all, we may look forward to 6 homes games under the beautiful La Crosse bluffs.
