Actually I was a little annoyed when they talked about WHITEWATER and said we should change our mascot to something else.  I've forgotten what it was the guy kept saying we should be called though.  It was too stupid for me to remember.

The comment I did think was really cool was when he said that the last game Matt had lost was in high school.

Practice squad players are considered free agents and another team can claim a player from someone elses practice squad without any compensation to that team by offering them more money.  However a team's next opponent on the schedule must do so at least six days in advance of their meeting and they must guarantee three weeks salary whether they keep them or not.  This was done to prevent teams from poaching practice squad players from opponents just to get information about them.  Also the poaching team must put the player on their 53 player roster unless he is released.  The team which is losing the player can retain them by offering more money though I don't think that there is any requirement that they be added to the 53 player roster in that instance.

I think he said they should change it to the Whitecaps.

Everytime Berman went to Say Whitewater, it almost came out as Whitecaps. Then finally he said, "it sounds like that school should be called Whitecaps, not Whitewater." I've never been a big berman fan anyways.

How's the saying go? Any publicity is good publicity.

Ya, I did cringe when he made the dumb Whitecaps comment, but I agree with you, 02, there is no such thing as bad publicity.  I, too, got some texts from friends!  It was great.

Thanks for the practice squad info, BW.   I did not know all those details.

I just finished my likely final radio interview with UW-Whitewater athletic director Paul Plinske, who's final day on the job is a week from today. I also read a column in the Kearney, Nebraska newspaper that details Paul's reasons for making the move from UWW to the University of Nebraska a Kearney. The headline reads: New Athletic Director Plinske: 'I felt like I was home' at UNK

I turned the game off- in fact I don't even know it the Bears won as I've been outside working on house all day.
Such a stage was set for Matt. Once again the penalties- he starts out 1st and 25!!
I wish we could see the downfield routes. Technology will be here soon enough I believe. I hated to see him scramble the first pass play (actually the first play was going to be play action- but false start killed it).  It's impossible for us to know whether he is being overly cautious by running or just doesnt have options to throw to.
The sack should have been avoided by throwing the ball away- but the injury probably would have happened regardless.
Depression.

This doesn't sound good....................

Interview of Bears head coach Trestman from today's Daily Herald:

I'm not sure about the time he will be out. But, we are sitting here with two quarterbacks going into next week, and that's something we are going to have to repair rather quickly, get a third (quarterback) on the roster.   :(

Matt Blanchard's injury last night... call it an Alanis Morissette moment.

Blanchard fractured a knuckle on his non-throwing hand last night.  Back in 2010 Matt fractured a knuckle (that time on his throwing hand) in the final game of UWW's regular season.  Blanchard had to watch from the sideline as backup QB Lee Brekke led the Hawks to five postseason wins and a second consecutive D3 national title. Isn't it ironic?   :'(

I was out in the front yard this morning and could distinctly hear the sound of a maul striking rock reverberating through the north side of Whitewater.  It must be 'pound the rock" time as UWW training camp is underway!

Happiness is...
Walking by the lit up field as UWL holds its first practice tonight, knowing the WIAC kicks it all off again in less than two weeks!
Bummer is...
I had to edit this, because I'm getting ahead of myself... We've still got three weeks!

I'm interested to see Whitewater's roster now that the preseason has officially begun. I hope that gets released soon.

It's unlikely that the roster will be released until the final 100 players are determined.  I'm not sure when we have to reduce the squad to that number.  Obviously before the first game 9/7 but I don't know when exactly.

Don't expect WW's roster to be released until either Monday or Tuesday prior to the Hawks' season opener vs Wash U (9/7)
